I tried to sign up but no luck

is it case of one person just manually doing all the work, so will take ages for confirmation email etc?

thanks.

I signed up and think I was accepted straight away. It was a while ago though. I haven't logged on much since.

AutumnRose1 · 20/12/2019 12:04

okay
seems a bit odd.

thanks.

PS I mean my situation seems a bit odd, not yours!

though I wouldn't blame them if they were checking email addresses etc first.

What happened when you tried to sign up?

Doyoumind · 20/12/2019 22:35

Signed up early on without problems but I don't go on it much.

ArranUpsideDown · 20/12/2019 22:48

I've just been reading some of the backstory from MK Fain who was one of the women who set it up.

AutumnRose1 the advice is to use a real email address, but if that doesn't work, contact [email protected]

AutumnRose1 · 21/12/2019 00:10

Thanks

I got it sorted

It seemed absolutely awful, to the point that I deleted my account immediately.

Also I found their privacy, terms etc very unclear

I might just be very behind with social media in fairness.

"absolutely awful"?

I'm on it. Only social media I've ever signed up for since it's open source and feminist, so I'm not knowledgeable on the topic, but it doesn't seem awful to me. Some very intelligent voices on there.

Maybe you had the bad luck to hit some unusually vitriolic thread? Maybe give it another try.

There's also glindr.org (Graham Linehan's recent let's-get-away-from-the-blue-bird site).

Ibloodylovewomen · 21/12/2019 00:46

I haven't used it, so interested to hear how it's "absolutely awful", OP.

NotTerfNorCis · 21/12/2019 00:50

If you've never used Twitter you might find it confusing. It's a very different format to Mumsnet.

AutumnRose1 · 21/12/2019 00:53

Well I know it’s about free speech so yes I was prepared

It mixed in with the ordinary stuff was quite a lot of stuff I’d consider incitement to religious or racial hatred....Katie
Hopkins being tame compared to some of what I saw.

Also, the way it was set out, I wasn’t clear if the linked email address was shown etc and the directions about privacy were unclear.

Maybe I’m just an idiot but I had a strong reaction to what I saw.

Xpost

Been on Twitter for years. Not continually 😂

Did you click on the 'Fediverse' tab? That's not Spinster, it's the wider social network, and because it's devoted to free speech there is some nasty stuff on there. I never look at it normally. There are two other tabs, Home and Spinster. Home will just have posts from people you follow. Spinster has posts from other people on Spinster. Both of those are pretty harmless. If you don't like someone's posts for some reason, don't follow them, and stick to 'Home'.

BitOfFun · 21/12/2019 01:44

Yeah, I think you've got the wrong end of the stick somewhere.

AutumnRose1 · 21/12/2019 11:42

I did look at the Spinster part.

Tbh I think I’m just over the internet probably. I see there’s an earlier thread on MN about why Spinster is linked to the things it’s linked to so it’s not just me.

Thanks all.

Spinster is like Katie Hopkins?

WTAF?

TiredofthisBS · 21/12/2019 11:54

There are strong views on there but I wouldn't say absolutely awful.

TiredofthisBS · 21/12/2019 11:56

And I've never seen inciting religious or racial hatred either. Are you sure your were on the correct Fediverse?

Saucery · 21/12/2019 11:59

I hated the All Men Are Evil side of it and that was taking over a bit too much for me. I’ve never bought into the ‘I feel sorry for you, having given birth to a Male ‘ rubbish.

NotTerfNorCis · 21/12/2019 12:06

I guess that for some (most?) people it's a chance to say things they can't elsewhere. That's bound to skew the content. But I have to say I haven't seen religious or racial prejudice on Spinster.

AutumnRose1 · 21/12/2019 12:10

“ Are you sure your were on the correct Fediverse?”

Ah! Maybe that’s it.

I cba.
