Very interesting tweet from Julie Blindel about the use of 'Cis' in the Graun Lifestyle mag.

They ultimately need to shift papers or get people to “donate” online. Follow the money. They may have noticed at least 50% are likely to be women. Educated ones who are paying attention.

“Winning” Twitter and losing the election may have concentrated a few minds too.

Very interesting tweet from Julie Blindel about the use of 'Cis' in the^Graun Lifestyle mag.

it's more than the mag - its the style sheet for the Guardian - so should be across the whole publication!

youllhavehadyourtea · 19/12/2019 18:48

sorry - pic of Julie's tweet attached.

Would love some clarification of the new style sheet at the Guardian.

That’s incredible, if it’s true. I would believe it, if it wasn’t for the JK story, where they’ve tried desperately to paint her as a bigot who supports a bigot. However way they try to spin that story, the readers will still be thinking, “but people are the sex they’re born as, no matter what they call themselves”.

youllhavehadyourtea · 19/12/2019 18:54

wonder if this article was the last straw?

I cancelled my digital sub that day. Wonder if they saw a drop or was it purely about staff/reader feedback?

RoyalCorgi · 19/12/2019 19:37

The Guardian's style guide is online. It seems not to mention "cis" at all, as far as I can see.

ThePurported · 19/12/2019 19:40

Where did JB get this?

No serious newspaper should be using expressions like 'cisgendered'. It doesn't do anything to their credibility, and we really don't need an additional descriptor to differentiate us from males, dysphoric or otherwise. 'Woman' is fine.
Although I did notice that Guardian referred to Yaniv as 'a woman with male genitalia', so they still have some work to do on this front Hmm

SidJS · 19/12/2019 19:53

RoyalCorgi

-they’ve removed it! It was definitely there yesterday when I saw JB’s original tweet admonishing the Guardian’s style guide

Let watch out for the next related article

SidJS · 19/12/2019 19:58

The style guide also states:

transgender, trans
Where relevant ...Avoid using the term transsexual unless someone specifically identifies as such.

Hmmm... they didn’t provide the same courtesy to non identifying ‘cis’ women - otherwise known as ’women’ - in case anyone is confused

Hypocrites

ArranUpsideDown · 19/12/2019 22:09

cis was in the style guide - I saw the fuss about it.

I hope the removal is permanent.

Redshoeblueshoe · 19/12/2019 22:18

Redshoeblueshoe · 19/12/2019 22:31

All in all it's not been a good week for LOJ

NotTerfNorCis · 19/12/2019 22:38

Just seen this. Great news. More progress.

It also shows there's a lot more dissent on the left than the woke would have us believe.

Binterested · 19/12/2019 23:05

Bet he’s burning all his Harry Potter books too. Poor little lamb.

Redshoeblueshoe · 19/12/2019 23:11

I hope his mummy has already bought him a nice pair of HP PJs Xmas Grin

RubyViolet · 19/12/2019 23:52

It was there yesterday, definitely deleted !!!!

justcly · 20/12/2019 02:29

I got properly told off by a Guardian moderator for objecting to being referred to as a "ciswoman". I might email them and ask for an apology.

Brilliant news! A small victory, but it shows what can be done if people make a fuss.

stumbledin - that wasn't a send up, believe it or not. It was an accurate report.

stumbledin · 20/12/2019 13:06

Yes I do realise just how far the editor (queer politics inform everything I do Viner) is down the rainbow path.

I meant Private Eye was sending them up - and if it is that that goes got the style sheet amended - good on them.

But as usual people in the media only take notice of each other.

If they really cared, ie listened to women they would never have written such reactionary male pandering rubbish.

StrangeLookingParasite · 20/12/2019 15:07

No, I don't think that report in Private Eye was a send up, either. Straightforward reporting.

Tootsweets23 · 20/12/2019 16:29

Glinner shared a tweet from someone saying that they have had an email from Kath Viner's assistant confirming usage of "cis" has been suspended due to feedback.

You mean the Guardian listens to feedback Shock

TheCatsServant · 20/12/2019 17:32

Going to take a lot more than this late in the day back tracking to get me back buying The Guardian
