A workshop for self-identifying women

Ironically I stated negotiation as a skill I need to improve on at a recent review - but I would chew my own arm off sooner than sign up for a session for self-identifying women. I am very much an identified-by-others-and-biology-to-be-a-woman..

Bollocks to all this nonsense.

Self-identifying women? So only males can apply! How very odd.

CatalogueUniverse · 17/12/2019 19:14

Jeepers. Though it would be interesting to attend an event which had people who identify as women alongside side those who are identified as women by other people.

Word salad for mixed sex event. I bet it would defeat the purpose of having an event designed to assist women who are socially and culturally conditioned to be less effective negotiators. Because all the airtime would be hogged by the self declared women who have not had a lifetime of the same conditioning.

Fraggling · 17/12/2019 19:16

I don't understand.
This is about sex based issues surely?
But they are excluding eg young non binary females?
And any other women who don't identify that way for what ever reason.
Feels quite exclusionary.

AnyOldPrion · 17/12/2019 19:18

Maybe you should contact them OP, and innocently ask if it’s only for transwomen. You weren’t sure if you were eligible as you don’t identify as a woman.

madcatladyforever · 17/12/2019 19:20

Why the fuck can't they just say women like normal people. This is ridiculous.

tilder · 17/12/2019 19:22

The rest of the she wins website looks good though. There is another talk advertised as well, no mention of id. Why that one went woke, I have no idea. Shame.

What's the point of saying you promote women unless you actually promote women.

AnyOldPrion · 17/12/2019 19:26

Is the other talk on the She Wins site tilder, or the New Adventures site? May be that New Adventures insisted on the wording?

BigFatLiar · 17/12/2019 19:34

Nothing to stop you going just say you identify as a woman.

Fraggling · 17/12/2019 19:43

But if you don't why would you say that.

Fraggling · 17/12/2019 19:44

It would be a lie.
You want non binary females to lie about their internal ID? Agender people

testing987654321 · 17/12/2019 19:46

I don't though, do I? It's a bleeding fact.

I’d sign up and go. If anybody dares ask you just say your a woman. What would they do??

Evenquieterlife33 · 17/12/2019 19:48

Self identifying women. What a load of tosh. Your a woman go. I’d go just to annoy them.

Fraggling · 17/12/2019 20:00

I wouldn't go as the invite says it's not for me :/

MIdgebabe · 17/12/2019 20:30

Well I think you can identity as a woman as well as be one, gender and sex are not exclusive. if you have a womanly gender identity . So as long as you are male or consent to your oppression you are welcome

nevermorelenore · 17/12/2019 20:39

God, the new language makes it so confusing. The other day I found this sentence in a job ad for creatives who are returning to the workplace.

"This is an inclusive programme. Our focus is on self-identifying women, as this area is least represented, but we also welcome all genders. We know ageism is real for everyone."

So, it's fully inclusive, but more inclusive for some people?

tilder · 17/12/2019 21:52

They are both on the She Wins website AnyOldPrion. Just different wording on the target audience.

Lots of photos of and stories about women too.

breakfastpizza · 18/12/2019 19:04

A dear friend of mine does voluntary work for an extremely competitive film and TV program for women and they use this descriptor. A trans person recently applied and got in.

She did some digging: the person had been trying to break in for 15+ years. They announced they were a woman last year and all of a sudden started getting commissions. Commissions way beyond their abilities. On two jobs, as soon as the assignments were done, they were quietly let go because the work wasn't up to par and could not be used. And yet they keep getting hired.

Career progression by opting into a discriminated category.
