Why is there an assumption that such people will ever come to a time that they’re not a risk?

We must learn to be less forgiving as a society. I suppose the argument will be that lots of rehabilitation staff will lose jobs. Le sigh.

A very dangerous man who should never be freed.

Campervan69 · 17/12/2019 16:45

Lock him up and throw away the key!

koshkat · 17/12/2019 16:47

He should never, ever be released.

SarahTancredi · 17/12/2019 16:49

One has to ask, if a man is a threat to women how being surrounded by men for a decade or whatever can be deemed to be rehabilitated when the scenario has never presented itself

Unless they are locking him alone in cells with women for ever increasing amounts of time?

Whatever you do the way you find out it didnt work would be too late.

He shouldnt ever get out

koshkat · 17/12/2019 16:50

Unless they are locking him alone in cells with women for ever increasing amounts of time?

If the fucker decided to identify as a woman they would do exactly this.

koshkat · 17/12/2019 16:51

Never forget Karen White and what he did to women in prison.

Michelleoftheresistance · 17/12/2019 16:55

I'm afraid I thought cynically how long will it be before he plays that game, because why not? What's not in that for him?

AutumnRose1 · 17/12/2019 17:05

Oh no, that hadn’t occurred to me.

Big thanks to Sadiq Khan for helping to challenge the original release.

koshkat · 17/12/2019 17:08

What's not in that for him?

He has everything to gain.

justcly · 17/12/2019 21:45

This new sentence is life imprisonment with a minimum tariff of six years. How is this justice?

AutumnRose1 · 17/12/2019 21:47

I know just

I wish the term “life sentence” would be dropped, it means nothing.

I'm genuinely concerned at the competence of the parole boards to be honest. The fact that Warboys was being genuinely considered for release is appalling.

Yes rehabilitation and justice are important but a key pillar of incarceration is to protect the public, this seems to be increasingly forgotten.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 17/12/2019 23:05

Interesting how keen people are to give rapists in particular a "second chance". In my opinion those are the criminals least likely to ever be successfully reformed.

Loopytiles · 17/12/2019 23:30

Even if he was genuinely no longer a danger to others (yeah, right) he should serve life, full life, as punishment for his crimes.

Poota · 17/12/2019 23:35

Agree with Kittens.

Crimes involving financial gain, I can see reform being possible. Rapists, especially serial rapists this devious, are clearly fundamentally warped to the point that they put their ejaculate as a higher priority than the women in society. How on earth does anyone think that kind of man can be successfully 'reformed'?

MrsTerryPratchett · 18/12/2019 01:36

I wish the term “life sentence” would be dropped, it means nothing.

It does. It means someone is on life licence, which means they are never 'done' and no longer on parole/probation. Which effectively means that if they misbehave or don't follow conditions they can be recalled to prison.

In real life it means there is the threat of punishment without a whole new 'innocent until proven guilty' trial.

The recommendations should run consecutively; 6 years for each offence.

BerwickLad · 18/12/2019 01:49

It said on the news that it's thought he raped 100 women. How many would he need to have raped to not be considered for release in six years? 1000? 2000? Given that 100 isn't deemed to be a big enough number to say he constitutes a significant long term public danger.
