Cool! Let’s just hope Penny Mordaunt is given something really rubbish or nothing at all. And hoping for continued Andrew Gilligan influence as a spad.

SonicVersusGynaephobia · 16/12/2019 21:38

What does a Parliamentary Under Secretary do?

I'd forgotten we had Andrew Gilligan in there!

TheCuriousMonkey · 16/12/2019 21:42

sonic A PUS is a junior minister, so they sit underneath the secretary of state, don't usually attend cabinet, but usually have a particular portfolio within a Govt. Department.

WrathofFaeKlop · 16/12/2019 21:43

Respect to David TC Davies.
Great news.
He spoke out against the trans idealogy, in fact I believe he was the only MP to speak out.

I'll remember him for that.

Redshoeblueshoe · 16/12/2019 21:45

LOJ will be so upset.
Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha

WrathofFaeKlop · 16/12/2019 21:45

He spoke out directly without fudging his words.

MrsSnippyPants · 16/12/2019 21:46

The good thing is it means our Welsh sisters have a route of communication now, even if he is not their MP, that they did not have before.

Congratulations to him.

YourOpinionIsNoted · 16/12/2019 21:48

Ooh, well done David TC Davies. Hopefully he'll be bending some influential ears.

SonicVersusGynaephobia · 16/12/2019 22:00

Thanks Curious. Do we know which department it is yet?

WyeWoman · 16/12/2019 22:11

He's my MP! What should I be doing (that I hsvent already done?!).

Justhadathought · 16/12/2019 22:15

Unfortunately, according to wikipedia it is a really un-influential role: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parliamentary_Under-Secretary_of_State

Justhadathought · 16/12/2019 22:17

An undersecretary is an executive government official in many countries, frequently a career public servant, who typically acts as a senior administrator or second-in-command to a politically appointed cabinet minister or other government official. The title is used in many different political systems

Needmoresleep · 17/12/2019 10:23

I looked at his twitter, about the time I met him outside the Linda/Venice court case. Nothing GC on there but, along with Brext, lots of straightforward constituency stuff: visiting hospitals, phone ins with primary schools, meeting farmers.

More Welsh than John Redwood perhaps, so hopefully good for Wales.

I am pleased though. He stuck his neck out and took a lot of stick, so a promotion means something.

koshkat · 17/12/2019 12:56

Bloody well done to him.

MangoesAreMyFavourite · 17/12/2019 15:19

He hosted the session in the HoC when it got cancelled from Millwall FC because of "abuse like they had never seen before", didn't he?

#MoreBallsThanMillwall.

TimeLady · 17/12/2019 16:45

Good news. It shows that he's not been punished for 'wrongthink' as he would have been in just about any of the other parties.

YourOpinionIsNoted · 17/12/2019 16:59

It shows that he's not been punished for 'wrongthink' as he would have been in just about any of the other parties.

Do you know what, I'm more and more tempted to join the Tory party. They aren't my natural political party at all but they seem to have woken up and smelled the bullshit on this issue, they aren't conducting witch hunts of GC MPs or members, and they've got a stonking great majority now so they aren't going to be chasing the woke vote. I want to get inside and get them on our side before the TRAs start weaseling their way in.

koshkat · 17/12/2019 17:13

I was wondering the same thing YourOpinion. I am a natural Labour supporter but no longer recognise what the party has become. Someone needs to be on the inside holding back the tidal wave of lobbying that is about to hit the Tories.

WyeWoman · 17/12/2019 17:29

I am also considering joining pretty much because of this issue. Are there any disadvantages to joining in terms of having to declare it anywhere or future jobs etc?

BeyondFlubeInclusionaryRF · 17/12/2019 17:39

Plus there is the thought that they're gonna be in charge for at least the next 4/5 years, so where better to influence than from the inside... 🤔

Wye, you live very close to me 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

MrsSnippyPants · 17/12/2019 17:40

It only costs just over £2 a month to be a member. I consider it a price worth paying in order to at least try and have some influence from the inside. Labour, Greens and Lib Dems all have women fighting really hard for our rights from inside their parties, despite them being villified by their own party members.
I am using any legal method I can to fight against the damaging ideology that is affecting our rights, stifling debate, and medicalising our children and grandchildren. I think the new government is the best chance we have to make a difference and we must not let it pass us by, whatever our politics.

What does a Parliamentary Under Secretary do?

Carries the Sec of State's bag and makes sure he/she does not walk into doors.

boatyardblues · 17/12/2019 17:48

TBH, we’ve talked about entryism in the other parties but perhaps the Tories, with their dwindling, ageing population are ripe for a Feminist takeover. Boris would not have won the leadership contest with a large contingent of pissed off women in the party. Two can play that game.
