Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

How is biology taught these days?

When I was at secondary school (90s) and university (90s/early 00s) biological sex terms were unambiguous. Students and teachers/lecturers/professors were able to refer to XX as female, and XY as male.

Is this still the case? If not how the fuck are the sexes distinguished? Not with this cis shit?

"The cisfemale, transmale and some people of other and no genders have a uterus...." . "Spertmatogenesis occurs when the cismale, transfemale and some people of other and no genders ...." .

Are essay word counts to be increased?

Just to be clear, I really want to know!

*I am a transinclusive feminist. Females of any and no gender are included in my feminism!

Don’t you feel sad that that last paragraph even felt necessary?

SylvanianFrenemies · 16/12/2019 18:55

Yes, I do! I fucking hate that we aren't allowed to stand up for females without being called terfs, bigots etc. I am acting pre-emptively so that anyone searching this board to slur us will have to think twice!

Same way it always was. Disclaimer - I'm not in schools any more - I am a private tutor but A level spec / textbooks / exams still have the old-fashioned chromosome definition. There was a bit of nonsense in a GCSE exam last year.

I think they just burn the textbooks in a ceremonial 'gender reveal' party these days. Books, by virtue of having two covers, mirror the binary terrorism of 'biology' and are easily replaced by Tumblr.

golgiapparatus · 16/12/2019 19:00

What endoplasmic reticulum says.

We members of the endomembrane system know these things.

EndoplasmicReticulum · 16/12/2019 19:00

I do worry that it's next on a "list" though. All the old biology teachers will have to be retired and replaced by NQTs who have been trained at the University of Woke by Professor Clownfish.

T0tallyFuckedUpFamily · 16/12/2019 19:01

I always laugh when someone spews that nonsense. It usually translates to centring makes in their surrendered feminism.

T0tallyFuckedUpFamily · 16/12/2019 19:02

*centring males

SylvanianFrenemies · 16/12/2019 19:05

Well, I do kind of mean it! Gender is irrelevant to feminism imo. So transmen are in! Basically all bio females. The opposite of centering men.

Dd is studying medicine. They still have biology.

SylvanianFrenemies · 16/12/2019 19:12

Thank fuck biology hasn't been eradicated... Yet.

I fear the gender reveal book burning might still be in the horizon..

OP posts:
whyamidoingthis · 16/12/2019 19:25

Hopefully it won't be eradicated. I don't really want a doctor who doesn't know the difference between sex and gender.

T0tallyFuckedUpFamily · 16/12/2019 19:28

Oh right! I get you now! I thought you’d lost the plot for a bit, though I doubt females who are trying to identify out of their sex, would touch real feminism with a barge poll.

Pinkyyy · 16/12/2019 19:31

This is quite contradictory to what you said at the end of your OP.

It's still taught the same because nothing has changed. How can biology just change?

CuckooCuckooClock · 16/12/2019 19:34

Science teacher here - still teaching male and female in my lessons. If students bring up gender I tell them that gender is a social construct and we can discuss that outside of lesson time.
I have had to correct the odd student teacher who has come in with some gender bs.
It’s certainly creeping in.

CuckooCuckooClock · 16/12/2019 19:38

I’d also like to add that some students are put out by my position and I occasionally get parental complaints. It is a worry amongst science teachers that we will get ourselves into trouble for teaching science!

T0tallyFuckedUpFamily · 16/12/2019 19:40

CuckooCuckooClock thank you for that. I’m sure when you started teaching, you didn’t think you’d end up arguing the reality of biology with woke, arrogant youngster. In time they will learn that you were actually trying to protect them.

CuckooCuckooClock · 16/12/2019 19:49

Actually, when I trained there was a man who transitioned on my course. In those days, I was very supportive of that person. I happily used preferred pronouns without giving it a second thought. It never occurred to me that 15 years later this would be happening

SylvanianFrenemies · 16/12/2019 20:13

@pinkyyy what I said at the end of the OP is that (imo) feminism includes all biological women, whether they recognise themselves as women or not. I appreciate that what I said might be misinterpreted as woke doublespeak though!

I am not including biological men, however they identify, just to be crystal clear.

@SylvanianFrenemies I definitely misinterpreted it! I was so confused at how you could be so firmly on two sides of a fence at once haha
