Posting for info and if anyone knows anything about his views?

I'll do some digging myself later...

President rather than leader (no-one knows what that distinction means in practice, the Lib-Dem's structure and governance is baroque in the extreme).

Bit odd that he's elected now, presumably the ballot occurred before the election.

BiarritzCrackers · 15/12/2019 10:40

That's a bit strange that the Lib Dems said Sal Brinton and Ed Davey would be sharing Party leadership duties, when she's off herself a fortnight later! Seems a bit of a shame to go from two women as Leader and President to two men, within the space of a a couple of weeks.

Well, when the women are fucking atrocious, and traitors to their sex, I can't say I'm too disappointed.

But we don't know their gender identities! Both Ed and Mark might identify as women or NB. We don't know and we mustn't ask.

BiarritzCrackers · 15/12/2019 10:57

I am not fans of them, but none of the men in the Parliamentary Party have been exactly inspiring in recent years either, and all take the same line over self ID and blurring sex & gender. It's generally a somewhat uninspiring party, and they haven't managed to build anything compelling in the last 5 years despite not having internal wrangling to contend with. But they have made much of breaking through the 'white male' Lib Dem image, and now after just 5 months of that, they'll probably end up with Davey as Leader, to join Mark Pack as President.

RedToothBrush · 15/12/2019 19:43

I don't know anything about him.

I have thought for a while that Sal was part of the problem though.

DH knew who he was. Said he was an electoral statistician or something.

This is him

So us this

Just a point: Stats don't favour public support for self ID. So what line will he take with this in mind and his background?

Three reasons to back Mark Pack for President

Unlike most others at the conference, Mark did not seem particularly interested in the hackery of student politics, but wanted to know what I was going to do, rather than simply what I thought, or what faction I was in.

Promising...

Secondly, Mark knows the party inside out. He understands the different needs of members geographically, demographically and politically. Importantly to me as a councillor for the past 24 years and now a council leader, I know that Mark recognises the huge role of local government. He understands localism and knows that much of the excellent campaigning going on in the Lib Dems is outside any Parliament.

If they want to get back support in SW for example then they need to understand how wokeism turns off a lot of voters.

Looks like a guy who is likely to have at least some grasp of this.

Thats the most promising thing I've seen in weeks.

exwhyzed · 15/12/2019 19:54

He isn't leader he is president. He takes over the role from Sal Brinton.

It's a bit like saying James Cleverly is the leader of the Conservative party (he's chairman).

When I Google him, I get this (see pic) but there's nothing about biology in the piece that I can see

Thats the most promising thing I've seen in weeks.

But that was 30 years ago. Let's hope he hasn't changed, although I'm not sure how much influence he'll have as the party president.

The next leader will probably be Ed Davey, who, let's not forget, popped over here during the leadership contest to tell us that TWAW whilst giving a little wink and a nod to TRAs on Twitter.

MollyButton · 15/12/2019 20:04

The election was before the general election. I think they must have put off announcing the result until the general election was over. He seems like quite a sensible chap - and he has always seemed concerned with getting the party elected and electable.

Ed Davey seemed like a better candidate for leader than Jo, and actually probably lost the election in the summer because of the "woke" vote. But he hasn't said he will stand - although I'm not sure who else is really likely to (other than Layla - who is even more popular with the woke than Jo was).

RedToothBrush · 15/12/2019 20:55

I am half expecting only one candidate to stand like for cable thus avoiding an election.

LDs can't really afford another internal election right now. And there is a limit of who has any public profile / experience amongst the MPs they have.

AuntSpiker · 15/12/2019 21:12

Can anyone get to the bottom of that picture I posted, with the mention of chromosomal biology? That's an article from a couple of days ago, but there's nothing in it about biology that I can see. Is that odd or am I missing something?

Thethiniceofanewday · 15/12/2019 21:18

President is a totally different role from Leader in the Lib Dems

donquixotedelamancha · 15/12/2019 21:22

I get the same. Google only scrapes links periodically, so it is not unusual to have deleted content showing on their previews. I wonder whether that indicates a previous (somewhat GC friendly) version of the blog existed and was removed?

Thethiniceofanewday · 15/12/2019 21:23

Sorry, I see that’s already been said. Mark was very close (professionally not personally) to Lynne Featherstone and basically masterminded her election first to the London assembly and then to Parliament.

Floomph · 15/12/2019 21:35

Seems a bit of a shame to go from two women as Leader and President to two men, within the space of a couple of weeks.

Pffft. Can't believe all the gender essentialism around these parts. If they both identify as women we must stand ready to acknowledge that.

GiloulovesLaure · 16/12/2019 10:57

I think the mention of chromosomal biology was in one of the comments.

RedToothBrush · 16/12/2019 12:18

I don't care what sex they are. As long as they acknowledge the reality of their sex.
