I cut up my membership card some time ago over self ID.

But I want to try and be in a position to vote for a new, less woke leader.

OP posts:
DuMondeB · 16/12/2019 18:03

Kinnock jnr is on absolutely bloody everything, denying he is interested in the leadership!

AvocadoToes · 16/12/2019 18:21

Bits of Cheshire are very close to Stretford. But Chester is not one of those bits - its over 40 miles away.

IfNot · 16/12/2019 18:30

That's the first step in the process of standing DuMonde...denial! Grin
I don't really mind what kind of background they have I just want a sensible person who knows what having a real job is like. So, none of 'em!

ShesDressedInBlackAgain · 16/12/2019 18:40

Well Kinnock senior can give him some pointers on purging the extremists...

Cwenthryth · 16/12/2019 20:16

I’m not convinced Stella actually believes TWAW, just that she is of the be-nice brigade and hasn’t thought too hard about it... would be interested to hear from any of her constituents who have lobbied her on the issue. I’m sure I’d heard/seen her being criticised by TRAs for not being ‘inclusive’ enough when discussing abortion (ie, having the temerity to consider abortion a women’s rights issue etc).

Still she’s not being mentioned at all as a possibility at the moment. Possibly motherhood making her invisible.

RedToothBrush · 16/12/2019 20:25

RLB is a Catholic I believe so may well have travelled to a Catholic secondary school. Chester isn't that far from Manchester.

And

Chester begins just three tram stops from Stretford, Sale is the border.

Borough of Trafford is part Manchester, part Chester. The posh part of Trafford is really posh (Hale Barns, Bowden) and the poor part is really poor (Bucklow, Old Trafford).

The poor part of Trafford has borders with both Borough of Salford and Borough of Manchester

Erm

Cheshire and Chester are not the same thing.

I am getting very confused. Or someone else is.

RedToothBrush · 16/12/2019 20:26

Try getting from Stretford to Chester in rush hour... That'd be a fun trip to school in the morning.

SonicVersusGynaephobia · 16/12/2019 21:30

Stella has argued TWAW herself and against women. She's also rudely dismissed women who have gone to see her with issues about this, including, IIRC, a woman whose 11 year old daughter was made to share a changing room with a boy (who said he was a girl) who started masturbating. I remember this from about 2 years ago, I think.

Cwenthryth · 16/12/2019 21:32

Rumour from the Guardian political editor that there’s a pact between RLB & Rayner for leader & deputy

I'm rejoining Labour today
SonicVersusGynaephobia · 16/12/2019 21:33

Well, that would be shit...

merrymouse · 16/12/2019 21:39

www.theguardian.com/politics/2019/dec/16/angela-rayner-rebecca-long-bailey-labour

"Angela Rayner clears way for Rebecca Long-Bailey to run for Labour leader"

"Long-Bailey, who is the MP for Salford, was given a prominent role during the election campaign, including as Labour’s spokeswoman in TV debates, and has stood in for Corbyn at PMQs."

Given that this was the worst Labour result since the 1930's, it doesn't seem like a good idea to promote somebody who had a prominent role in the campaign.

Pepvixen · 16/12/2019 22:10

Stella listened and held her counsel when i lobbied her about it. But she's said lots of TWAW publicly and in the past been rude to GC constituents.

TheCraneWife · 16/12/2019 23:56

Long-Bailey, the shadow business secretary, had long been regarded as the leadership’s pick for the top job. She is expected to win the backing of the party’s largest donor, Unite, and of key Corbyn allies including elections chief Karie Murphy

Basically replacing like for like?

She is likely to face candidates including Dawn Butler and Richard Burgon in the contest to be deputy leader

Dawn Butler is terrifyingly thick.

MarshaBradyo · 16/12/2019 23:58

So Unite, the largest donor, is what will keep Labour out for a long time.

MarshaBradyo · 17/12/2019 00:00

So much for taking time to understand why people disliked Corbyn and his cronies as they do.

Cwenthryth · 17/12/2019 08:00

Newsnight segment from last night

persister · 17/12/2019 08:40

I don't want to rejoin Labour as I don't trust them not to take a wave of rejoiners as endorsement of the Corbynite ideology (even though it obviously wouldn't be) and I don't want to give them my support if they're going to elect RLB as leader.

I would however like to vote in the leadership election, and I've been trying to work out if there's an affiliated society I can join that will

  1. entitle me to vote in the leadership election
and
  1. preferably support a GC position or at least not go down the TWAW route.

If anyone can advise on this I'd be very grateful.

Cwenthryth · 17/12/2019 08:45

I think that would be the unicorn & elves union unfortunately persister Xmas Smile

In previous years, ‘registered supporters’ were able to vote just by paying a fee.

Or do as many of us I suspect plan to which is join but then make clear to our MPs/PLPs etc what our feelings are, network with GC labour women etc.

I know some people have said they would leave again immediately should RLB get in.

persister · 17/12/2019 12:31

Thank you, Cwenthryth, I feared that might be the case!

CrissmussMockers · 17/12/2019 12:33

Looks like the Momentumites are moving heaven and earth to stop anyone who rejoins after the election from getting a say in the new puppet leader.

koshkat · 17/12/2019 16:54

Rebbecca you mean?

Tanith · 17/12/2019 23:08

ACouchOfOnesOwn What I am saying is that someone who has experienced poverty at any time in their life is going to know more about it than someone who does not have that background. Some experiences never leave you; you never forget them.
