WoLF - trying to start a local group through their proper channels

StopThePlanet · 13/12/2019 19:37

womensliberationfront.org/

I have submitted an application to WoLF to be a member and to start a local WoLF chapter group (if they accept me as a member - fingers crossed!).

They're asking me for references to prove that (1) I am a biological woman and (2) my online presence is indicative of my radfem views. Completely understandable and incredibly comforting that they go so far to vet potential members.

The biological woman part is easy enough I gave them direct links to my Facebook (unused just kind of there) and Linkedin accounts. I also gave them my mom's contact information because I figured if she can't confirm I'm a biological woman who can, right?

My mom is all about this - when I told her what I want to do she said she's totally on board and would be the first member. 🤓 (Yaaaaay mom!!!) I'm hoping this works out because I finally have given up being worried about putting my head above the parapet. Being aligned with WoLF would be invaluable in recruiting local women to get involved and to give women who are already involved an environment/audience where they can feel safe to plan and organize away from 'his eye'.

So I guess the point of this thread is to ask if you've interacted with me or have read my posts to please post a reply here so when WoLF checks out my MN posting history they will see this thread and (hopefully) some statements by you confirming that the claims on my application are true.

For the record, I have not claimed to have done anything special or notable in the realm of women's rights; I have not claimed to be an expert in second wave or radical feminism; I have not claimed to be capable of teaching others about feminism. All I really claimed is that I want to not just carry the torch but keep it lit. I have a great deal to learn, want to create a space locally where I can not only sit with my peers and elders but younger women as well towards a common goal of learning, organizing, and acting to help make this a better place for all girls/women (females).

I'm not asking for undeserved pats on the back or building me up to be something I'm not - so many of you have been and continue to be my teachers whether you realize it or not. I am continuously humbled and educated by you and couldn't be more appreciative of your insights.

What I am respectfully requesting is that you make a short (or long whatever you prefer) statement in reference to my character/views if you are comfy doing so.

If no one responds I won't be offended I know this is a big ask but it is for a really good reason.

It's time for me to make a difference, it's time I honor my foremothers' sacrifices, efforts, successes, and letdowns through my own dedication instead of complaining about things I can impact but don't and enjoying rights they fought for while being a passenger in the erasure of what they gained.

It's time.

Either way, thanks for reading!

I am confused by their code of conduct, as it mentions rape. How can they be women only if they ban members for rape ?

EmpressLesbianInChair · 13/12/2019 19:54

I think rape laws in the US might include women using objects.

AvocadoToes · 13/12/2019 19:55

Rape is defined differently in US law, and includes penetration of the vagina or anus with any body part or object.

StopThePlanet · 13/12/2019 20:00

Rape in the United States is defined by the Department of Justice as "Penetration, no matter how slight, of the vagina or anus with any body part or object, or oral penetration by a sex organ of another person, without the consent of the victim."

You know they can search you and see your posting history? I think they may need to log in first.

StopThePlanet · 13/12/2019 20:10

I know they can Google with my MN+username but doubt they'll create an account just to research me, but then again maybe they will or maybe (better yet) they already have an account on here.

WoLF is not just looking posting history - they are looking for references. While I communicate with a few of you via email I won't give out other people's credentials unless given permission in advance.

I thought this thread might be an easier way to get that done rather than getting and giving (with permission) contact info of individuals as we are all are using anonymous names here. Considering the current climate in regards to women's rights I thought this would a more comfortable alternative than getting contacted by WoLF. Staying Anon is important to most posters so I thought this method was less intrusive even with the risk of coming off egotistical/me!me!me! and perhaps bizarre lol.

Hi planet,
I'm in the US also. I'm a lurker and frequent name changer so you won't recognize me. We haven't interacted but I'm aware of you as a consistent poster. I have helped WoLF out a few times and if I can do anything to help you, I'm willing.

StopThePlanet · 14/12/2019 17:08

Stellwagen

Thank you so much! Your message is exactly what I was hoping for - simple yet confirming my presence here.

Would it be ok for me to PM you please?

Hey StopThePlanet, I’ve appreciated your posts for the past year or so I think. I confess I have been (for a variety of reasons) too chickenshit so far to try the WoLF application process with real names and all, so I am impressed by your commitment and wish you much success! And way to go, MamaPlanet, too! 😁

Stellwagen · 15/12/2019 00:16

Absolutely planet.

I too am chickenshit. I'm getting braver though.

FannyCann · 15/12/2019 10:17

I know I've seen lots of interesting posts from you @StopThePlanet but can't give a specific example!
You could search your own posting history through an advanced search and send them that?

Also saw this on twitter.

I'd love to go, but alas, wrong country. Meanwhile the library is going to come under lots of pressure to cancel. Angry

DuMondeB · 15/12/2019 17:09

I confirm that StopThePlanet will make an excellent chapter leader for any US Radfem group, inc. WoLF.

I’m a stepparent of a teenage girl with ROGD and I fully support WoLF’s work in this area.

Surely your birth certificate should be enough to prove your biological sex. I know when people get a GRC the new BC is issued but it is registered as being issued on date of GRC. If you have a BC where the birth is entered in the register in 1975 instead of 2017 it should be enough proof.

DetroitDReindeer · 18/12/2019 08:35

It's Detroit, anything I can do to help? Im sure you will actually get stuff done! Good luck!

OhHolyJesus · 18/12/2019 09:01

Hi Stop are you still in need of a reference? I'm happy to vouch for you, how best to send, via DM?
