Sam Smith's 'feminine self'

HandsOffMyRights · 08/12/2019 08:51

Sam's back spouting more sexist claptrap:

www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-7765891/Sam-Smith-reveals-feeling-vulnerable-releasing-new-music-feminine-self.html

Sam explained the reason for being "scared": 'Being my feminine self in this world that we're in, I mean the music industry can be a bit homophobic, a bit sexist at times,

'So being feminine like this in the way I move and dance and am, it feels quite scary at times but is worth it.'

Sam then goes on to promote more regressive female stereotyping:

After checking out the size of presenter Symon's heeled boots, Sam said: 'I don't know how you girls do it, I can't go out dancing in heels ... Red carpet, I can do it all day. But singing live in heels? It's impossible.'

I've got fucking feminine curves, where's my speech protection ?

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 08/12/2019 20:57

I've got much bigger boobs than Sam ever will, does that mean nobody is allowed to say anything unkind about me on MN?

Whatisthisfuckery · 08/12/2019 21:02

Sam needs to grow the fuck up. Just imagine how homophobic and sexist the music industry would be if he actually was a woman.

My DS used to love Sam Smith, now he just thinks he’s a bit of a knob. DS thought it was great that he was a proud gay man when we went to see him last year, the whole NB bullshit had his eyes rolling out the back of his head.

What kind of an example does Sam think he’s setting to boys like my DS. I don’t think my DS is gay for the record, but he’s always been quite flamboyant. He’s now at an age where he desperately wants to fit in with all the other boys and he daren’t wear anything that isn’t black or grey or could possibly seen as girly. This is a kid who just a few years ago went to school on dress up day as a fairy. Now superficial little dipshits like Sam Smith are just hammering it in further that he can’t be a boy and be flamboyant. What a complete cock. He’s doing boys, and in particular gay boys no favours whatsoever.

Louis XIV was the first!

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 08/12/2019 21:04

It's always been hard for feminine boys and men to buck the system. The ones who did it without claiming to be anything other then boys or men were and are far braver than Sam.

kalinkafoxtrot45 · 08/12/2019 21:10

He’s just a rather dull singer trying to be edgy.

Adenosine · 08/12/2019 21:13

@TheProdigalKittensReturn yy. "I wobble with women". Err ok mate, but no.

@Cwenthryth haha exactly that!

HandsOffMyRights · 08/12/2019 21:32

Just catching up ALittle about the Lando piece and relieved to hear that he hasn't just subscribed to what's "on trend" at the moment.

"I wobble with women"

Confused If he’s identifying as wobbly maybe he’s a Weeble...

stillathing · 08/12/2019 21:37

My thoughts exactly whatis

He's a total let down to gender non conforming, flamboyant or gay boys.

And a total insult to women.

HandsOffMyRights · 08/12/2019 21:44

Oh and @MNHQ

There are threads on rich and powerful men in the public eye: Trump, Johnson, Corbyn, Prince Andrew etc. where anything goes. Why is Sam Smith any different?

This is a thread that I started because regressive sexist and homophobic stereotyping is not welcomed by many people. It is not acceptable - wouldn't you agree?

When somebody is acting in a manner that many find offensive, then those groups who are oppressed should be able to voice their concerns.

He's of his time & age......it is like nothing has ever happened before.......

2Rebecca · 08/12/2019 22:19

I was being my feminine self running through a forest and wading through streams in the rain today. This is horribly regressive sexist nonsense.
Men wore make up and high heels in the 70s without needing to change their pronouns.
Clothes and make up are just clothes and make up.
I was a woman at my Christmas night out in a dress and make up and surprise surprise I'm still a woman in my unisex clothes and no make up today.
My body and chromosomes remain the same.

Goosefoot · 09/12/2019 00:03

I don't really have a problem with the idea of people having a more masculine or feminine side, or even saying that they feel like a person of the opposite sex. But people have been able to say things like that in the past without it being taken very literally, and most people have a sense of what that means, that feeling or perception.

What's become strange is that this is seen in this very materialistic way. Not, like a poster said in a kind of Jungian sense, but that materially feeling that way is an indication of being somehow different or other, or actually the other sex.

As far as Sam Smith goes though, I expect he just picks up the language he hears around him and doesn't think a lot about it.

MrGHardy · 09/12/2019 17:28

Tosser.

2BthatUnnoticed · 10/12/2019 12:25

This person is not saying they’re a woman or using female spaces are they? I think they are “they/them” and using male spaces. If that’s the case, well and good.

HandsOffMyRights · 10/12/2019 12:48

Sam Smith has said:
"I feel just as much woman as I am man."

Sam may feel 'masculine' and 'feminine' - whatever that means, as I'm sure we all do. Sam's idea of what constitutes femininity seems to revolve around high heels and other sexist stereotypes.

But then Sam starts conflating sex with gender identity, saying they feel like an actual woman. How?

But let's not beat around the bush when somebody is clearly a man or woman.

Smith can identify as a carrot for all I care, but when those claims impact on me as an oppressed sex class then that is not alright.

I have no idea what lavatories Sam uses, but even if Sam didn't unzip Sam's flies in the ladies that leads me to the small matter of language.

Forcing others to lie, to compel speech is most definitely not good and well.

I've been forced to do it here.

OP posts:
TheProdigalKittensReturn · 10/12/2019 12:57

If Sam said he felt feminine then hey, whatever, don't care. It's the conflation of feminine and female that's the problem (along with the lack of spine).

ItsChristmaaaaaaaaas · 10/12/2019 13:01

'felt feminine' - but what does that mean? I assume it means they like 'girl things'?

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 10/12/2019 13:05

Means fuck all really, but at least it isn't a direct threat to women's rights in the same way "I feel like I'm 22% woman" is.

HandsOffMyRights · 10/12/2019 13:28

Since posting, Sam has been embracing Sam's sexuality. Good!

Flamboyant gay men in music have been popular for generations. Freddie and Boy George owned it!

www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-7769959/Sam-Smith-delivers-lively-performance-Capitals-Jingle-Bell-Ball.html

Sam wanted to turn the venue into the "biggest gay bar"

One question. If you can't say the sex then how does Sam know Sam's gay? If Sam is neither male or female Confused yet attracted to men how can Sam be gay?? How does Sam know those men don't self ID as women?

As the trolls say, help me understand....🤔

Sshhh, don't talk about the Emperor's clothes. Ze wants to have as many different kinds of oppression as possible, don't spoil it for him!

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 10/12/2019 13:43

In that context shouldn't it be zim, as in Invader?
