In my opinion he didn't cover himself in glory on the issue of women's rights. His answer on prisons showed where his priorities lie. Did I misinterpret him?

The most depressing thing is how mediocre all these candidates are. No ability to properly consider a point, and argue a position with intelligence. All fudge and obfuscation. They waffle along , speaking in nice sounding little soundbites, yet never actually saying anything.
Stick your colours to a mast ! Most of that didn’t even make sense when you pick it apart. Sigh.

waspfig · 03/12/2019 21:20

By the same token, the women's justice system needs to be confident that someone coming in to the system has properly transitioned. Because this can take some time,

What do you mean by 'properly transitioned?' If anyone can self ID as any gender at any given moment, why would that 'take some time?'

Why is your priority 'the person who is changing their gender' and not the hundreds of vulnerable women (as described previously by yourself) already in the prison? What about their safety and dignity?

My priority is everybody, not just one group.

Ran out of time on the webchat before I could go back to him about his response to my point above.

How can you prioritise everyone?! Confused

littlbrowndog · 03/12/2019 21:23

Cos Phil hasn’t got a backbone that’s why

MatildeHidalgo · 03/12/2019 21:24

And he’s a doctor don’t you know

He'll be able to practise medicine full time from 13th December.

theflushedzebra · 03/12/2019 21:24

I know what you mean Sirvix - everything now is a fudged a reply that is toeing the party line.

And with most (all!) the parties, the party line is somewhat blurred and far from clear.

And a lot of the standing MPs who did seem quite decent sorts, able to argue a point, and speak their minds, are leaving in droves!

It's all a right bloody mess.

theflushedzebra · 03/12/2019 21:25

Dr Phillip is a Tory at heart isn't he - crossed the floor because of brexit. His Toryness did come across in that webchat.

Brexit has done strange things to politics.

Creepster · 03/12/2019 21:30

The point I'm making is that it would wrong to leave somebody in a male prison who is self ID-ing as a woman because they can be vulnerable to abuse... at the forefront of my mind is the security of everyone involved, particularly the person who is changing their gender

I know it is upsetting to accept and understand they are telling us they absolutely believe and will legislate on the basis of their belief that being vulnerable to abuse is what women are for.

merrymouse · 03/12/2019 21:35

Brexit has done strange things to politics.

Agree. Part of me thinks if he can take John Redwood's seat good luck to him. The other part of me would be happy to see the Lib Dems do badly because that extract above about gender roles makes them sound as batshit as the Brexit Party.

NotAssigned · 03/12/2019 22:14

Dr Lee's brief was to keep us placated and to keep faith with the gender nonsense in the manifesto. Of course that was never going to work and goodness knows why they accepted the web chat invite. It was always going to be a no-win situation.

Of course an ex Tory and medical man does not think for a fleeting moment that men can declare themselves women and become women. But neither does he particularly care about actual women so no great loss to go along with the magical thinking claptrap.

But by god I wish some of these people would find their fucking backbone.

theflushedzebra · 04/12/2019 00:56

NotAssigned Yes - He very much came across as a former-Tory who hadn't quite left his Tory roots behind, (Brexit, again), and was reeling a bit from the culture in the LibDems.

NeurotrashWarrior · 04/12/2019 07:24

Has @LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD survived the Kirsty Blackman deletions? I hope so.

NeurotrashWarrior · 04/12/2019 07:26

So the LibDems don't just believe in gender identity they also believe in 'gender roles'??????

This all comes down to the GC 101 of the difference between sex and gender, which a Gp really should know. Bloody semantics and hurty feels.

Redshoeblueshoe · 04/12/2019 07:28

I hope so neurotrash

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 04/12/2019 08:09

😉

I call xenophobia. We Scots are very sarky and black humoured...

crossandperplexed · 04/12/2019 09:17

I will be watching today's webchat with interest.

rodgmum · 04/12/2019 09:56

I’ve re-asked my question on today’s Webchat, giving more detail. If I’m suspended I’ll hopefully see you all again (under both my user names) at some point. Grin

theflushedzebra · 04/12/2019 10:14

Can I direct you to the best question on the SNP webchat:

Do women have penises? And if so, what is a woman?

It has a Posie Parker dgaf directness about it. Let's see it it's answered Grin

theflushedzebra · 04/12/2019 10:15

Fekko PLEASE do not get yourself suspended!

Redshoeblueshoe · 04/12/2019 10:41

Fekko glad to see you are still here.

littlbrowndog · 04/12/2019 10:44

Fekko and rodgmum. 💪🌟

Saw your question rod. How awful for your dd

littlbrowndog · 04/12/2019 10:45

I put a question on that webchat.

I hope she answers it

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 04/12/2019 11:00

Pan or Plain loaf? - That is my question.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 04/12/2019 11:09

Dang wrong thread.

DodoPatrol · 04/12/2019 11:20

I was thinking, I've heard of pansexuality, but 'loaf' was a new one!

AFairlyHardAvocado · 04/12/2019 11:31

Gutted I missed @LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD questions on there 😔
