Hey all,
There has been much discussion amongst GC feminists in GB about the fact we are politically homeless, but I’ve been wondering about the situation in NI. From what I can gather, the ‘unionist’ parties (DUP, UUP etc) are to the right and are pro life but anti self ID, while the ‘nationalist’ parties (Sinn Fein, SDLP) are to the left and are pro choice but pro self ID. Meaning as a pro choice left wing GC feminist I can’t vote for any of them.
As a last resort, I’m hoping some of you amazing women can help me find out what the Alliance party stance is regarding the GRA etc.
I have tried contacting the Alliance candidate for my constituency, but he hasn’t replied (which makes me disinclined to vote for him anyway.)
I read that the Alliance Party had encouraged their members to act according to their conscience regarding the change to the abortion law, so I’m wondering if it’s the same on this issue too?
To be honest, it doesn’t really matter, since the DUP could put a ribbon on a sheep in this constituency and it would win, but I really don’t want to have to spoil my ballot.
Thanks in advance for any help!
