Final major party to join the pushback. Whether you agree with personally signing these petitions or not, I think it is important to keep pressure on ALL our politicians so that they know women are watching them.
I will be tweeting a link to this to my ppc and my local councillors to ask them to sign it; and if not, why not?!

I'm not sure if I'm surprised or not to see the Tories doing this.

Heartened, either way. Hope you get loads of signatures. My MP isn't a Tory but I do work with a couple of Tories, I'll send it to them to sign.

This issue is cross-party. But. all the parties have failed us so far. Get your act together, Tories! (And Labour, SNP, Lib Dems, Greens and WEP!)

arethereanyusernamesleftatall · 25/11/2019 14:34

I see there's no mention at all of trans in the Manifesto (apart from as LGBT).

Is this what kicking the issue into the long grass looks like?!

Not good enough, though. They kicked off this whole debacle with the GRA reform consultation and proposed changes.

Also, where's the inquest Penny Mordant promised into ROGD in girls?

Good to see Tory women putting pressure on them to tackle this head on nto sweep it under the carpet, I hope they listen!

MrsSnippyPants · 25/11/2019 14:42

There is a bit of 'nothing to see here' from the Conservatives. I would very much like to see that research into ROGD go ahead, and given the huge amount of work women put into responding to that consultation they could at least have the decency to publish some sort of conclusion.

Mind you, maybe they think it's a can of worms best left unopened......

IIRC, after a lot of pressure, we were informed that the investigation into ROGD had gone out to tender. I think it was just about the time of change of PM.

What happens next, particularly if there's a change of government, I just don't know - something to raise with canvassers and parliamentary hopefuls - it's so important.

"Final major party to join the pushback."

Is it? All these 'declarations' - none is being made by the actual parties. They are petitioning those parties to get on board, but they don't actually have anything to do with the parties themselves.

And I expect the political parties to ignore them. Sad

Uncompromisingwoman · 25/11/2019 17:26

This initiative is great - all these women from all political parties standing up for sex based rights. It's such an important move and if (as I suspect) they will be piled on by the usual misogynists, it will be in plain sight of their political colleagues.

MrsSnippyPants · 25/11/2019 17:28

As far as I am aware, all these declarations and petitions have been made by fully paid up party members. You don't need to have an official position to speak up.

Some good signatories on this declaration now, and the comments are very heartening.

And I expect the political parties to ignore them.

How many women read this board? Even if only half of them contacted their candidates and asked them to sign these declarations it would be noticeable! It has only taken me 15 minutes to email and tweet my candidates with these links, if even a few women in my constituency did this it would be noticed by the candidates or their staff.

All of us who are against Self ID and the medicalistion of non-conforming children are all doing what we can, in our own way, when we can. It is ALL helping.
