Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

labour party and single sex exemptions- how to stop them backtracking?

OK, so it wasn't prefect BUT was heartened by LP saying they will defend same sex exemptions in their manifesto. Now I read that they may try and wriggle out of this by conflating sex and gender and saying TWAW. Presumably they put this in the manifesto because they calculated that the votes of ordinary people who understand the issues outweigh those of TRAs
Now, I have a female labour MP who previously told me TWAW but has been sympathetic to other women's issues and other things I care about (god knows how she manages this)- so I want to signal that while they nearly lost my vote over this, they are reprieved- BUT- only if they are not intending to back track.
If you have followed this- any suggestions on how to word an email?
TIA

Seriously do you believe they won’t go back on this? What about how they have behaved over the last two years makes you think they give a shit about preserving women’s sex based rights? I wouldn’t trust them an inch.
I am so fucking disappointed in them.

StillWeRise · 22/11/2019 22:38

well, that's kind of the point- I want to say to them- don't think we aren't watching you!

They are still forcing women to waste our money challenging them in court over All Women Shortlists yes?
So they haven't actually changed their stance. They just think we are too stupid to notice.

HarrietTheFly · 22/11/2019 23:06

They'd need to clearly define what they mean by "single sex" and what they mean by "women" for me to trust them on this.

Neolara · 22/11/2019 23:10

I think the people who wrote the manifesto don't understand the difference between sex and gender. I think it's just a mistake.

I'm with Harriet
Lifelong Labour voter - no longer trust them.

JoyceJeffries · 23/11/2019 00:15

I just don’t trust them anymore. A once great party is now a total joke.

Birdsfoottrefoil · 23/11/2019 00:16

It is not just TWAW though. Why stop there? Why not redefine all the words in the manifesto to mean something completely different?

100,00O houses? Well rooms are homes.
20,000 new teachers? School children are teachers; they learn from each other (and there are so many of them we can cut the assigned-at-training teachers entirely and still keep our manifesto pledge)
Keep sex-based rights? Anyone can be any sex they choose!

This is being discussed on R4 right now (7:20am). WPUK calling them to clarify this.
