From the manifesto:

labour.org.uk/manifesto/tackle-poverty-and-inequality/

"Ensure that the single-sex-based exemptions contained in the Equality Act 2010 are understood and fully enforced in service provision."

This is quite something.

The perfect party for the batman villain Twoface.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 22/11/2019 13:31

Wouldn't be a great if a question could be asked at the leaders Question Time - I wonder if there are any MNers in the audience Grin

ThePurported · 22/11/2019 13:31

The "clarification" is yet more fence-sitting and obfuscation.

They are committed to introducing self ID and will make 'gender identity' a protected characteristic. Sounds pretty clear to me.

DuMondeB · 22/11/2019 13:31

I hope there are serious ructions at HQ.

Lib Dem’s are holding the door open for any Labour TRAs looking for a new home. They aren’t picky.

CaptainKirksSpikeyGhost · 22/11/2019 13:31

Question Time question are pre selected.

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 22/11/2019 13:32

ItsAllGoingToBeFine's pic makes it crystal clear, with the single comment of "...all women, and that of course includes transwomen"

Labour definition of "single sex" = females and transwomen.
Because TWAW.

(also note they called the PC "gender assignment" not "gender reassignment")

TiredofthisBS · 22/11/2019 13:32

Because of the James Kirkup link to Twatter I found this exchange. Neil, I like you. 😂

Labour promises to keep single-sex exemptions
Datun · 22/11/2019 13:35

Labour definition of "single sex" = females and transwomen.
Because TWAW.

And anyone who wants to be a transwoman is one. So anyone is a woman. And we will preserve spaces especially for um, anyone. And everyone.

Such utter wankery.

OvaHere · 22/11/2019 13:36

Labour definition of "single sex" = females and transwomen.
Because TWAW.

I think we all knew this inevitably would be the case.

PronounssheRa · 22/11/2019 13:39

Christ. If you have to add clarification to a manifesto just a day after release then both the manifesto and their ability to communicate is shit.

I do not trust Labour on this, not one bit. They are being duplicitous in the hope no one will scrutinise beyond the sound bites.

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 22/11/2019 13:39

The enraging thing is, why won't Labour just own it?

If you have the policy, and you think it is right and justifiable and a vote winning policy for your target voters, stand up and be counted for it. Be proud of it! Stand alongside your words and shout them out loud!

Why the cowardice and mealy mouthed comments?

CaptainKirksSpikeyGhost · 22/11/2019 13:44

The enraging thing is, why won't Labour just own it?

Because they know most of the public is against it.

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 22/11/2019 13:45

...So then why do it?!

Any way you turn this, it's nuts.

CaptainKirksSpikeyGhost · 22/11/2019 13:46

So then why do it?!

A few very powerful people want it to happen.

Datun · 22/11/2019 13:48

My only conclusion is that there are enough men in power who are demanding access to vulnerable women and girls.

TiredofthisBS · 22/11/2019 13:50

Labour has shown time and time again the contempt with which they hold women. They won't protect us, they'd sooner throw us under a bus. If someone shows you who they are believe them.

Floisme · 22/11/2019 13:51

Do we know where that clarification has come from? Because as far as I'm concerned, if they don't want to put their name to it then they're not worth listening to.

And like I've said, I don't think Dawn Butler is worth listening to either. If she had won the argument within her own party then the manifesto would be clearer - and not in a good way. She'll be fighting to save her reputation with her former allies.

OldCrone · 22/11/2019 13:51

If someone holds a GRC they may still be excluded from some places based on their biological sex.

Birdsfoottrefoil do you have a link for that? I'm sure I've seen something like that somewhere in the legislation or guidance, but when I was looking for it yesterday I couldn't find it.

Labour definition of "single sex" = females and transwomen.
Because TWAW.

I'm pretty sure this is what Labour mean.

OldCrone · 22/11/2019 13:52

A few very powerful people want it to happen.

But why?

GetbusywiththeFizzee · 22/11/2019 13:52

My only conclusion is that there are enough men in power who are demanding access to vulnerable women and girls

There are also enough women willing to support them. It’s not just a male led it’s also women colluding with them.

CaptainKirksSpikeyGhost · 22/11/2019 13:59

But why?

Reduced physical and sexual boundaries around children and women I'd imagine.

Imagine blurring boundaries so much with reporting that so restrictive it becomes okay.

CaptainKirksSpikeyGhost · 22/11/2019 14:01

Certain (fictional) former and current presidents and princes would not benefit as they are pretty much immune already, but their friends would.

ThePurported · 22/11/2019 14:01

Labour definition of "single sex" = females and transwomen.

I think we all knew this inevitably would be the case.

I expected that. I didn't expect the bonus stupid of amending the Equality Act to make 'gender identity' a PC.

ColourMagic · 22/11/2019 14:06

Dawn Butler MP Facebook message, 3 hours ago:

'Labour will reform the GRA to introduce self-declaration for trans people.

We will remove outdated language from the Equalities Act.

And there is no way spaces will be permitted to discriminate against trans people. That is illegal and it will stay illegal.'

Datun · 22/11/2019 14:06

Reduced physical and sexual boundaries around children and women I'd imagine.

Exactly.

There really is no reason to dismantle sex segregation.

Pretending it's a political ideology, that it's about human rights, that it's something to do with sexual orientation, it's all nonsense.

It's a men's sexual rights initiative.
