Email to Twitter user @luluchops1 from MP Rosena Allin-Khan pretty much flat out calls Women’s Place UK transphobic and uses the completely out of context (and not originating in anything trans anyway) “parasites” comment, and, well, pretty much every word in the email is condemning of WPUK.

I really do despair about our politicians right now.

So much is standing on tomorrow's outcome of the HM case.

I've been to Tooting. I'm fairly sure her constituents would feel differently about this.

And she's a frigging doctor FFS.

I don't believe any of those comments were made at WPUK meetings. The so-called parasites comment is a reference to something perfectly reasonable once said by Sheila Jeffreys (see below) who has never been invited to speak at a WPUK meeting. This MP is another idiot who doesn't know there is a difference between the traditional socialist feminist trade unionists of WPUK and rad fems like Jeffreys, Julia Young, etc.

According to a blog on the peaktrans site, Jeffreys said:

"When men claim to be women…and parasitically occupy the bodies of the oppressed, they speak for the oppressed. They come to be recognised as the oppressed. There’s no space for women’s liberation."

The blogger writes, 'A parasite is an organism that benefits by deriving nutrients from a host, to the detriment of the latter. Sheila uses the term metaphorically to mean that once men declare as and are accepted as women, they benefit from all the rights that generations of women fought for while curtailing our ability to speak about ourselves, our lives, our concerns as women.'

It's really pathetic that people holding office should make such ill-informed, nasty comments about feminists.

What a shame. She really doesn't know what she is talking about.
