Good news - Morrisons confirm sex segregated toilets

FairPlay for Women challenged them about toilets becoming mixed sex in one store and they have confirmed this is an error in signage and their toilets are men’s or women’s. Good to know some retailers still have sense (especially as I was running out of places to shop)

Good. Though of course I am now awaiting the pile on and the reversal of policy so that it is more inclusive. This shit is making me more and more cynical!

HermioneWeasley · 20/11/2019 13:42

So we need to tell them how pleased we are they’ve got it right!

Great, I do like Morrisons.

hiphiphoorayback · 20/11/2019 13:44

Grin Always loved Morrisons.

ErrolTheDragon · 20/11/2019 13:47

Very good, and also excellent that they understand invisible disabilities.

ArnoldWhatshisknickers · 20/11/2019 13:50

I should bloody well think so. It was a Morrison's women's toilet in which XY trans person Katie Dolatowski sexually assaulted girls. They of all shops should recognise allowing bog standard XY people into the ladies puts women and girls at risk.

Floisme · 20/11/2019 13:51

Can I be the first to say, 'More reasons to shop at Morereasons'?

Ferretyone · 20/11/2019 14:18

@Floisme

You have been and may you be forgiven

Morrisons are from Yorkshire where they call a spade a bloody shovel.

BlackeyedSusan · 20/11/2019 14:28

Oh dear. There is always one. Grin

Good news on the loos though.

CaptainKirksSpikeyGhost · 20/11/2019 14:29

Ah, they must a bought their sign from the same place as KFC.

OhHolyJesus · 20/11/2019 14:53

Thank god, I can't boycott them as well, I'm running out of places to buy food!

hoochymamgu · 20/11/2019 15:24

Just thanked them for this Grin

scotsheather · 20/11/2019 18:29

No mention of whether they actually enforce it though so doesn't mean much. A mixed sex facility is bad but at least you know what you're going to or can avoid.

PurpleCrowbar · 20/11/2019 18:34

'Morereasons to shop at Morrison's!' was actually their advertising slogan when I was a student in Leeds.

We quaffed lots of Morrinov vodka & Glen Morangie whisky.

Fair play to them & their dancing carrier bag logo 😁

ShesDressedInBlackAgain · 20/11/2019 18:35

Eh?

No. Mixed sex is not better for some really convoluted nonsensical reason.

Well done Morrisons.

Bluerussian · 20/11/2019 18:41

Excellent news. Unfortunately I have no Morrisons on the doorstep, I'd have to travel to go to one. My nearest 'big' supermarket with toilets is Sainsbury's and I've no idea what their policy is. There are a couple of good Co-ops but they are considered to be 'small' shops (not that small tho'), & don't have lavatories for customers.

I tend to buy groceries online anyway, it's easier to have them delivered. Then I can go to the loo at home :-).

scotsheather · 20/11/2019 18:47

I didn't say unsexed ones are "better" just more honest than one you expect to be female only and find its not.

Rocaille · 20/11/2019 18:51

This is great news! I was in a branch the other day and noted with approval the way in which the toilets were labelled 'female' and 'male'. I love Morrisons. I always do my big shop there. I don't have one near where I live, but luckily they will still do a delivery for me.

Ummmmcake · 20/11/2019 19:06

About bloody time a supermarket took a stand on this issue.

ForeverFaff · 20/11/2019 19:08

I'm so pleased. I am a very loyal shopper at my local one. And use the cafe weekly, often more!

I might not have blue hair, or a fancy gender-identity, but I'm a creature of habit. Thankfully this time, I don't have to abandon one of my few favourites Smile

stucknoue · 20/11/2019 19:08

Our Morrison's has men, women, parent and child, and 2 individual unisex toilets one of which can take a wheelchair, suits all people

womanaf · 20/11/2019 19:14

Um. Not wanting to burst bubbles but that doesn’t say anything about not including male women in their definition of women.

Also re Yorkshire knowing which way is up, may I just remind you where Leeds is?

exwhyzed · 20/11/2019 19:14

Very sensible of Morrisons.

They also have excellent baby changing facilities in my local one. You can get a double pushchair/double trolley in and there is a toddler suitable toilet, good seating for breastfeeding in privacy if wanted and a safe nappy change.

Whoever designed it obviously listened to harassed mothers having to do the shop with two under 3 and designed it around that.

Very women friendly.

NotJustACigar · 20/11/2019 19:15

I love Morrisons, it's my favourite supermarket anyway based on selection as well as price - their bakery bread is really good as is their own brand hummus. I'm delighted to finally hear a good news story on this for once and really, really glad I don't have to add Morrisons to my boycott list.
