Judge - I have become familiar with term TERF. It is a derogatory term used by those who seek to deplatform those who hold different views.

A UK Judge said that today. That is HUGE. MONUMENTAL. That feeling I've had for the past couple of years - that either the whole world is going mad, or I am - has lifted somewhat.

Thanks to @Spero for incredible live-tweeting - hope you're enjoying a nice Wine or Brew now.

RuffleCrow · 21/11/2019 20:04

Agree it's really just a symbol of police corruption as a whole. On this occasion they made the mistake of messing with people who were educated, organised aware of the law and knew their rights. Hence the case came to court. How many times a day do they do this to people who don't have the awareness or means to defend themselves?

OvaHere · 21/11/2019 20:04

We discussed on Maya's thread who would take the leading parts in a future documentary-drama.

So @HazzaTheOwl who would you like to play you? Grin

Whatsnewpussyhat · 21/11/2019 20:18

"This person was very upset"

This is what is so ridiculous. Someone got very upset over second hand info that someone else had read on twitter and was given so much police time over a non crime.
Unless an actual crime has been committed, why is being "upset" by something enough to warrant this bullshit.

BarbaraStrozzi · 21/11/2019 20:18

Spot on, Ruffle. My DDad (currently visiting to look after me post medical procedure) just said similar when I told him about the case. He has also vowed to get his spade out.

Hunt and peck, do you think?

HipTightOnions · 21/11/2019 20:31

Just caught up with today’s commentary (many thanks Spero). What a pleasure to see the whole mess exposed so clearly.

I rarely post and I’m not on twitter (have been reading and digging though) so just wanted to add here my admiration and thanks to all involved - you are doing such important and skilful work.

nettie434 · 21/11/2019 20:33

Great to read the account of Harry's case. The judge seems to be the same one who reduced John Broadhurst's sentence from murder to manslaughter. Sorry - I feel I am putting a dampener on this.

midcenturylegs · 21/11/2019 20:33

A favourite lawyer-esque person we may all know withdraw her "die-TERF-scum" comments on the case earlier today (discussing their view of the vanity-nature of the JR case and the hatred we terfs have).. someone posted a screenshot of the horrible "sk my lady dk" tweet suggesting the hate was directed the other way around.
It's interesting that said poster was tweeting about the fact that Harry was a millionaire and this was all about money...
In any case all their threads have since this afternoon been deleted.

JacobReesClunge · 21/11/2019 20:36

I wonder how much public money defending this indefensible behaviour has cost, and how many TAs or nurses we could've paid for this year instead?

Ali1cedowntherabbithole · 21/11/2019 20:37

Finally caught up with this thread after 2 days of work & travelling.

Thank you for the updates & the amazing twitter thread. I have laughed, eye-rolled & done some proper big swears. Well done Spero for making it so readable.

Thank You Harry for bringing the case at what I'm sure has been great personal cost.

And Thank You Judge for getting it & highlighting the nonsense. I'm looking forward to reading the judgement.

OvaHere · 21/11/2019 20:37

Wasn't one of the comments that the US Constitution only runs to 26 pages? Grin

BarbaraStrozzi · 21/11/2019 20:39

Yes Ova - my favourite comment among really tough competition from an excellent thread.

Birdsfoottrefoil · 21/11/2019 20:41

Inspector: So sue us

Most people are unable to do this due to cost. Let us not forget that Harry is underwriting the huge cost of this action, a cost that the crowd-raised funding covers only a portion of even when that target is reached.

OvaHere · 21/11/2019 20:41

There was indeed some tough competition.

CaptainKirksSpikeyGhost · 21/11/2019 20:42

Unfortunately his job is to look at evidence given and make a judgement based on that. It's not always going to be a good outcome or one we agree with.

ScapaFlo · 21/11/2019 20:45

You're welcome Grin

ahumanfemale · 21/11/2019 20:51

Finally got to the end of posts to say thanks to Scapa and you've just replied. Thanks though, you did an incredible job,

Did anybody get a chance to screenshot the one who identifies as a lawyer's feed before tweets were deleted?

PurpleHoodie · 21/11/2019 20:55

Images Scapa images dammit [santa]

PreseaCombatir · 21/11/2019 21:20

Our friends think that the judges comments over a ‘factual acronym’ were ‘concerning’.
Say that it’s deffo going to go to appeal if doesn’t go their way. But then say that the outcome doesn’t even matter, even if they lose it won’t matter, as JR only affects process and not outcome.

OvaHere · 21/11/2019 21:25

Posting this here as well as Maya's thread as the article touches on both cases. Please read it's really very good.

wildwomanwritingclub.wordpress.com/2019/11/20/a-non-zero-consideration-some-thoughts-on-the-mayaforstatercase2019

CaptainKirksSpikeyGhost · 21/11/2019 21:26

Of course it doesn't matter and of course there will be an appeal, some one has once again said "no" to them.

bettybeans · 21/11/2019 21:30

Nobody's making money out of this other than the lawyers. The cost of this nonsense is borne by ordinary people and, because the police are involved, presumably also the public purse. Money much better spent elsewhere. Maybe those flinging bitter little poison arrows at Harry could instead spend some time considering that aspect.

smileylottie87 · 21/11/2019 21:39

Wow, there has been a lot to catch up on! Thank you to everyone tweeting and your insight. I've been down so many rabbit holes over the past couple of day and learned a huge amount.

I'm hoping someone could answer a basic question for me, which I'm a little embarrassed to ask as I can't seem to find the exact wording to get this right. Can someone please explain the protected characteristic situation? As I understand it being transgender is not a protected characteristic but how is the position being argued that it is?
