I can't tell you what a physical & emotional response I had when I read this from fair cop live tweeting:

"Judge - I have become familiar with term TERF. It is a derogatory term used by those who seek to deplatform those who hold different views.

If complainants comments directed particularly at women who hold TERF views that wouldn't be a protected characteristic."

CaveMum · 21/11/2019 15:05

“ And look at unredacted letter re complainant.
"Victim has herself been making derogatory comments"

LET THAT SINK IN
HUMBERSIDE REDACTED THIS

'Victim' is not vulnerable and they tried to hide this.”

😱😱😱

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 21/11/2019 15:06

Cannot believe that Humberside redacted the fact that the victim herself news making derogatory comments Shock

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 21/11/2019 15:06

Was foothills a reference to the term "peak t#$ns" that I'm not sure if we're allowed to use any more under the latest version of the special rules? Kind of waiting for a comment referencing crampons at this point. Clearly he's done some research.

PurpleHoodie · 21/11/2019 15:06

That sound shit clitherow. Hope things settle down/get sorted in your area soon (re: gangs)

totaleclipse84 · 21/11/2019 15:08

Anyone else developing a massive crush on the judge?

clitherow · 21/11/2019 15:09

Clitheroe, this precise point is made in The Telegraph article. I wish I could figure out how to post a share token to it because it’s blistering about the entire case

I tried to read the article because I thought I was subscribed for a couple of freebies as I am with the Times but it won't let me on.

Destinysdaughter · 21/11/2019 15:09

Can't get over the term 'TERF ' being referred to by a High Court Judge!!!

FleetsumNJetsum · 21/11/2019 15:09

Why is there nothing about this on the BBC News website? There is a story about a missing cat, so surely...

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 21/11/2019 15:11

FOR GOD'S SAKE PLEASE LOOK AT THE CAT. PAY NO ATTENTION TO THE FACT THAT WE'VE BEEN LYING TO YOU ABOUT WHAT THE LAW SAYS FOR YEARS BECAUSE WE'VE BEEN CAPTURED BY A LOBBY GROUP.

Datun · 21/11/2019 15:12

And look at unredacted letter re complainant.
"Victim has herself been making derogatory comments"

HUMBERSIDE REDACTED THIS

'Victim' is not vulnerable and they tried to hide this.

What a fucking liberty. Finally though, this is getting scrutinised.

PurpleHoodie · 21/11/2019 15:12

Destinysdaughter · 21/11/2019 15:12

Once upon a time this is the sort of case that would have been discussed on Newsnight. Not any more it seems...

ClosdesMouches · 21/11/2019 15:12

Judge - I have become familiar with term TERF. It is a derogatory term used by those who seek to deplatform those who hold different views.

TERF has been used by the official Greater Manchester Police Twitter account. (Not the LGBTQ account. The official account.) It was deleted after the author of the tweet had spent some time arguing that TERF isn't a slur...

I'm fairly certain that another GMP account was tweeting along the lines of 'no terfs on our turf'. Can anyone else remember this?

Datun · 21/11/2019 15:14

And the judge was rather surprised at quite how much of the 28 pages had been redacted.

Jeez.

ClosdesMouches · 21/11/2019 15:14

Was foothills a reference to the term "peak t#$ns" that I'm not sure if we're allowed to use any more under the latest version of the special rules?

Better be careful Kittens, we'll probably find that 'foothills' becomes another word we dare not utter here!

PurpleHoodie · 21/11/2019 15:15

God help anyone calling his Lordship a TERF to his face Shock

RedDogsBeg · 21/11/2019 15:16

Any reaction from the usual suspects? Has the tutting QC made any comments on this or the Maya Forstarter case?

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 21/11/2019 15:16

Oh please let someone try. Christmas is soon.

clitherow · 21/11/2019 15:16

Was it this?

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 21/11/2019 15:20

Tweeters seem to be saying different things about whether the judge was suggesting terf could be considered a protected characteristic.

WeBuiltCisCityOnSexistRoles · 21/11/2019 15:20

I know we have said this over and over but the people behind this really are their own worst enemies, in terms of proving the points we are making. It doesn't take much for it all to unravel when they are questioned properly

On a relevant note, maybe my strike for being deleted after saying "hoist with his own petard" might be overturned? Despite the phrase being the original wording of the Shakespeare phrase, someone believed this was offensive Hmm as clearly I meant it in a nasty way. I might have appreciated the irony behind it under the circumstances all right, but talk about censorship...

CaveMum · 21/11/2019 15:20

@FleetsumNJetsum it was tucked away on the “Lincolnshire” page last night 🤔. Obviously it’s only a local interest story...

CaveMum · 21/11/2019 15:22

WeAreFairCop

Judge - I am very grateful to all counsel for the assistance I have been given. I will take time to consider my decision. I will circulate a draft judgment then hand it down. Can't promise when. I am hoping before Christmas.

I am acutely aware of the interest

Datun · 21/11/2019 15:23

Tweeters seem to be saying different things about whether the judge was suggesting terf could be considered a protected characteristic.

It looks as though the judge meant that if the complainant was calling women terfs, and having a go at them, unfortunately, being a woman isnt a protected characteristic. In terms of hate incidents, that is.
