Green Party manifesto and women/parents

The Green Party manifesto has been launched this morning.

www.greenparty.org.uk/assets/files/Elections/Green%20Party%20Manifesto%202019.pdf

Not much of surprise in it. They don't use the word 'sex' (but use 'gender' instead), nor 'sexism'. I'll list the main points (in no particular order)

  • Remove the spousal veto (they mean spousal consent) in the GRA so that trans widows remain trapped in marriages.

  • Change the law so an X gender marker can be added to passports for non-binary and intersex people

  • Update the Gender Recognition Act to allow trans youth and non-binary people to get legal recognition through self-declaration. (only 'trans youth' and 'non-binary' people? no one else?)

  • Support employers to explore the benefits of offering menstruation and menopausal leave to workers

  • Improve access to high quality care during pregnancy and ensure that all women are entitled to the care of a single midwife through prenatal care, birth and the first month of post-natal care

  • Baby clinics expanded
  • Make misogyny a hate crime across the UK and increase the police’s capacity to deal with domestic violence and misogynistic hate crimes. (I don't think the GP realise that misogyny refers to FEMALES, not males)
  • Funding to support the prevention and prosecution of all hate crimes will be increased
  • police officers will be given further training in this area
  • need an intersectional approach to hate crime, which recognises the groups of women who are most at risk
  • Develop and implement a UK-wide strategy to tackle gender-based violence, including domestic violence, rape and sexual abuse, Female Genital Mutilation (FGM), and trafficking: -working with perpetrators to prevent them from continuing to abuse
  • reverse cuts to legal aid to prevent survivors being forced to represent themselves against their abusers in court
  • introduce a new Domestic Abuse Bill, which enables prosecution of economic abuse
  • Roll back the cuts to domestic violence support centres and women’s refuges, and increase funding to provide more safe and secure accommodation for women and their children
  • Put funding for Rape Crisis Centre services on a sustainable footing
  • increase and ring fence the Rape Support Fund and ensure funds are provided via the Victim Surcharge
  • Extend the EU’s Charter of Fundamental Rights to give women in all EU countries access to legal, safe and affordable abortion services

  • Establish a new press regulatory regime which will allow women to make formal complaints about media coverage that will encourage misogyny against women

  • allow for third party complaints to be made, on behalf of women negatively affected
  • Introduce a regulatory framework for online harms to ensure social media companies take responsibility for how their platforms are being used and invest in technological solutions to address misogyny and online harassment. (this sounds like the GP want to force platforms to censor anyone who criticises gender identity ideology which they will class as 'harassment')

  • Increase funding for areas of the NHS heavily relied on by Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans, Intersex, Queer and Asexual (LGBTIQA+) people, including trans healthcare, gender identity clinics, HIV treatment and mental health provision. (they don't make it clear why these people's health needs are more important than other people's)

  • Properly fund training to support the delivery of comprehensive, age- appropriate Personal Health and Sexual Education (PHSE) lessons in schools covering all aspects of sex and relationships, with a focus on consent

  • End the opt-out of LGBTIQA+ inclusive PHSE classes at school to ensure that every child learns about different types of couples and families that make up UK society. (because parents should have no rights over their kids....)

  • Train school staff in spotting and stopping sexual harassment and bullying

  • Fund schools to provide free eco- friendly sanitary products to pupils

I'd like to send the Green Party a biology textbook, one that explains the difference between females/women and males/men.

So I got canvassed by telephone last night by the Green Party and took my time explaining in detail exactly why I'd be spoiling my ballot and not voting for them. In the 10-15 mins on the phone I mentioned:

-Karen White
-Aimee Challenor

  • Transwidows and the 'spousal veto'
  • 'Non-men' and how insulting that was
  • Inappropriate mixed-sex toilet provision (ie just sticking a 'gender neutral' sign on existing lavs without any kind of risk or impact assessments)
  • All-women shortlists
-Sport -Rape crisis and domestic violence shelters.
  • The fact that the destruction of single-sex provisions for women will disproportionately effect the most vulnerable women in society

The poor volunteer on the phone tried to say they had great policies for women, so I asked her what definition of women she was using.

She also trotted out "transwomen are some of the most vulnerable people in society" and I said "No, they aren't" and discussed the trans murder stats and how they are statistically less likely to be murdered in the UK than almost any other demographic- especially when you compare to the femicide rate.

She said she'd be passing on the comments to the party. So, if you are spoiling your ballot, not voting or voting for another party because this issue is your deal-breaker, tell them! I know of at least one other local feminist whose had conversations with a Green Party canvasser, and he told her a lot of people were mentioning it. They need to know this issue is ballot-box poison.

OP thank you for this thread as it gave me a lot of ammunition to use

"They need to know this issue is ballot-box poison."

Yes.

I agreed with this comment on Twitter:

"Their priority is socialism, not environmental concerns. Fine if you support socialism (I don’t) but not fine if you think you’re voting for a party that is just about prioritising the planet".

I was very active in the party some years ago and am saddened that women's and animal rights as well as environmental concerns have slipped down the agenda.

The party appears to have been taken over by Momentum-type thugs who have free rein to bully older members on social media.

It really has become the new nasty party.

SirVixofVixHall · 15/12/2019 11:05

The Greens have been hijacked by people who want political power and pick a smaller party to get involved with, whatever that party is. The Challenors, for instance. Anyone believe that “Balloo” Challenor cared about the environment? Or might he have cared a lot more about removing safeguarding and protections for girls ?

HandsOffMyRights · 15/12/2019 11:15

So will menstruation and menopausal leave be offered to men?

I've seen transwomen on Twitter claiming to menstruate (if any bleeding did happen this was due to medication I believe). I've seen TW talk about being 'hormonal' and likening this to the menopause. Whatever women have, they want it.

I can imagine some poor HR exec exploring this only to be accused of being a phobic because it excludes cross dressing Sid in accounts.

Bovary makes a great point.
If anyone can be a woman then much of this could apply to anyone.

Datun · 15/12/2019 11:17

So they're going to stop sexual harassment by forcing women (the vagina possessing kind) to share changing rooms, prison cells, showers in gyms, etc, with peen possessors.

In a nutshell.

Every pro woman issue is immediately cancelled out by their anti women agenda.

The contradictions and incoherence are staggering.

And as we have seen, as soon as anyone is publicly questioned they can't hold it together.

Freespeecher · 15/12/2019 11:31

@FizzAfterSix - agree. In Liverpool there was a supposed climate strike / demo but the posters were the usual anti-capitalism ones, just with a green background rather than a red one.

That strand of the Left has no compunction when it comes to suborning other causes into their own.

Datun · 15/12/2019 12:20

Honestly. It makes me spit on so many levels. The lack of logic, the incoherence, and the sacrificing of women, all in the name of progress.

We're going to tackle misogyny and sexual harassment by ensuring that women's boundaries are bigoted.

I mean you expect it from anonymous activists on Twitter. But a political party? Who is accountable? Who will have to publicly state their position, and be expected to back it up.

When it crumbles as soon as you open your mouth.

Why didn't Jo Swinson's humiliation show them how this is utterly unworkable?
