Just a quick query. Im a single parent of three. My gas card ran out of credit yesterday and i have already used the emergency. As i have three young children is there anyway British Gas would turn it back on if i pay it next week? I've recently moved to the Isle Of Wight and dont really know anyone yet. I dont have any family to ask for help either. Thanks for your time.

Sympathy love Thanks give British Gas a call and see what they say. Other people can probably advise you better, this is Feminism and Women's Rights. Maybe ask @MNHQ to move to a more appropriate topic so you get more replies?

You can contact them and see if they will give you temporary credit for hardship reasons. This would be paid back the next time you topped up so you'd need to be sure you had enough money to keep you going next time too.

It's not guaranteed that they will do it but depending on ages of kids you may be classed as vulnerable.

Good luck

I know this won't help you straight away but have you applied for the warm home discount? If you're eligible it's a one off payment of £120 to help you through the winter months

Yes they'll come out and do a "wind on". You'll get £5.00 emergency credit if you're off supply

Hello everyone
We've had a number of reports from people concerned about this thread so, as we usually do in these circs, we're putting our heads round the door with some important reminders.

Right now we can't see any evidence to indicate that the OP isn't above board – if we did, we'd remove the thread straight away. But the truth is that, sadly, we at MNHQ can't know with 100% certainty that any poster is genuine, no matter who they are or how long they have been here. As frustrating as it is, we're not able to vouch for anyone here.

So we always ask users to remember that not everyone on the internet is who they say they are – and remind folk not to give more to another poster, either financially (in cash or gifts) or emotionally (in time or care and support) than they'd be prepared to lose if things went wrong. Though, we strongly advise against parting with any cash or giving away your personal details, and if you receive a PM which makes you uneasy - report it to us and we’ll take a look.

Sorry to hijack your thread briefly there, OP – we really hope you get it all sorted soon.
