Sorry to link to the DM but they've covered Maya Forstater's upcoming court case here:
https://mol.im/a/7683207.

Maya's account of events is here and her post links to updates about the case: https://medium.com/@MForstater/i-lost-my-job-for-speaking-up-about-womens-rights-2af2186ae84

Just seen that Turners syndrome has been brought up....this is a very specific condition and has no relation to the “ discussion “ in courtroom. Why?

mateysmum · 19/11/2019 11:49

It is terrifying isn't it. Truly terrifying that were the respondents lawyer's assertions to be accepted it would become impossible to deny that a person with a penis was a woman.

How have we come to this.

ShesDressedInBlackAgain · 19/11/2019 11:50

3rd sex innit.

Although I think the I might have something to say about that. Transphobes.

Waterl00 · 19/11/2019 11:51

Claimant's views fit the definition of transphobia: she is scared of them and dislikes them. Therefore in conflict with the fundamental human rights of trans women, esp. Art 3 freedom from inhuman & degrading treatment. Her views violate dignity.

OvaHere · 19/11/2019 11:51

Exactly what I was thinking Captain

It's genuinely terrifying that people are subjecting women to this. It's straight up fascism.

Waterl00 · 19/11/2019 11:56

It's pathetic.

Calling it terrifying is taking this incoherent garble far too seriously.

MrsSteveMcDonald · 19/11/2019 11:58

Just adding my support. How much utter bollocks will the other side say today?

FloralBunting · 19/11/2019 11:58

Wow. Suppressing the fact that women do not have penises, etc? They really are laying their groundwork quite openly with that, aren't they?

CaptainKirksSpikeyGhost · 19/11/2019 11:59

It's not us who are taking it seriously, it's those in power those who enforce the (Or rather make up their own) law.

Equates them to Arya v Waltham Forest which was an anti-Semitism case. Shouldn't be protected. End of R's submissions.

Interesting that this is what they conclude with because I see a lot more in common with the persecution, erasure and dehumanising of women that the other way around

OvaHere · 19/11/2019 12:01

I disagree. We have to take it seriously because this is how rights are stripped away.

IWantADifferentName · 19/11/2019 12:01

Is CGD actually trying to lose this? The lawyer is.....I don’t have the words!

Is it considered incompetence? Misquoting the Equalities Act, references to the GRA that just don’t make sense and arguments with holes so big that you could drive a truck through them.

It is seriously as though they are trying to lose. If I had been on this case, I would have gone for employment status and minimized the trans stuff as much as possible.

Angryresister · 19/11/2019 12:03

What about our dignity, rights etc ? Thank you to the women reporting back with the detail. It is truly unbelievable that a woman can be sacked for stating the truth, especially in the context of a development organisation . This is getting both more ludicrous and more dangerous by the minute. I assume judgment will not happen any time soon as the implications are huge.

Birdsfoottrefoil · 19/11/2019 12:03

To be fair legal feminist says it was s9 not 7 that was being referred to.

theflushedzebra · 19/11/2019 12:04

I honestly can't tell which way this will go - the judge is going to have a make a decision about this clash of rights that w have been talking about all along.

Which side will he come down on? If he thinks TWAW then Maya could lose.

AnotherLass · 19/11/2019 12:05

I'm going insane reading the CGD lawyers arguments. If Maya wins we can look back and find this funny, but right now this is scary as hell.

NotBadConsidering · 19/11/2019 12:05

Turner Syndrome is a chromosomal aneuploidy - a condition resulting from the incorrect number of chromosomes. It is not an intersex condition. It is not an example of a third sex. All those affected are women/girls.

So fed up with the way facts are misrepresented for ideological purposes.

Waterl00 · 19/11/2019 12:05

Exactly. They must not think they can win on that alone therefore are throwing as much "bigot" shit at the wall as they can manage in the hope that some sticks.

Needmoresleep · 19/11/2019 12:09

It is a test case. Either way it will set precedents, perhaps why the employer made the opposing case so bluntly.

I can only hope that if it goes wrong, we have Boris in No 10 with Andrew Gilligan advising him. And that neither duck the issue.

Otherwise we are doomed. Not only will women not exist but we won't be able to argue they should exist.

ShesDressedInBlackAgain · 19/11/2019 12:10

I just want it on the record that I was being sarcastic.

Because - Poe's Law. Especially in this conversation.

theflushedzebra · 19/11/2019 12:11

Indeed, if Maya loses, it seems it will be a hate crime/sackable offence to claim that women exist as a biological sex, as distinct from transwomen.

AP reminds the judge that a man who identifies as non-binary is nevertheless identifiable as a man. And that “many women are angry that they have to pretend”

I’ll say.

I have to say, I feel terrified.

A bit worrying that they brought up the CHristian bloke who lost his job - is that treated a "precedent" ? DId he take it to tribunal?
