Sorry to link to the DM but they've covered Maya Forstater's upcoming court case here:
https://mol.im/a/7683207.

Maya's account of events is here and her post links to updates about the case: https://medium.com/@MForstater/i-lost-my-job-for-speaking-up-about-womens-rights-2af2186ae84

I wish Nick F would learn to say 'sex'.

And that last TW repeating the false suicide stats. Grrr.

thecompletenonsequitur · 14/11/2019 10:42

Sorry. That was supposed to be posted after Bessyk at 10.00. (Lost my signal)

StoatofDisarray · 14/11/2019 10:52

Supported - and thanks for expanding on the belief question.

BouquetOfRoses · 14/11/2019 11:04

Best of luck tomorrow Maya, and thank you for doing this

SquashedFlyBiscuit · 14/11/2019 11:23

Good luck .

Terfykins · 14/11/2019 11:23

The very best of luck, Maya.

Inebriati · 14/11/2019 11:59

Good luck, Maya.

Common sense would say that a belief that is based on factual evidence must be defendable, otherwise religious belief cannot be defended.
Does anyone know if this is a test case?

SexIsAProtectedCharacteristic · 14/11/2019 12:04

Good luck Maya

Manderleyagain · 14/11/2019 12:08

I hope it goes well Maya. Thanks for updating here. It would be great if someone who is at the hearing could post an update here.

Charley50 · 14/11/2019 12:21

Good luck Maya.

CeridwenTheWitch · 14/11/2019 12:37

Agree, it's a fact not a belief, because it is physically impossible for people to change sex. It's possible to have surgery to make you appear to be the opposite sex, but it's not possible to actually change your sex. It's crazy that we are even having to say this.

Good luck Maya and thanks for taking this on.

Qcng · 14/11/2019 12:41

This is a really important case, thanks for explaining the "belief" aspect on this thread, Maya.
So, knowledge of science can be seen as belief-based in certain contexts, like this one.

happydappy2 · 14/11/2019 12:53

Good luck Maya, will be watching closely the outcome of this case.

MotherofTerriers · 14/11/2019 13:11

Good luck, wish I was as brave as you.

Joisanofthedales · 14/11/2019 13:56

ChattyLion · 14/11/2019 14:07

Best of luck Maya and thanks for taking this on and for the update too. FlowersGin

misscockerspaniel · 14/11/2019 14:09

Good Luck Maya and thank you.

PerkingFaintly · 14/11/2019 14:17

That's an interesting and subtle point about "capable of being a philosophical belief, albeit that it may be based entirely on scientific conclusions".

Thank you for posting that, PencilsInSpace – I'd been sharing other posters' apprehension about "belief".

And thank you Bardonnay for the thread, and indeed Maya for the court case.

FilthyBiscuit · 14/11/2019 14:48

Good luck Maya, I look forward to hearing updates. Thank you for taking this on.

Imnobody4 · 14/11/2019 14:51

If gender identity is found to be a belief then it can't be imposed on non believers, just as RC beliefs on contraception can't be imposed on non RCs.
This is serious stuff, good luck Maya -I'm in awe.

boatyardblues · 14/11/2019 19:31

It’s quite heartening that the TRAs thought they could entrench their position (and silence women) with strategic litigation, but women and GC men like Harry are making all the running at the moment. Hope all goes well tomorrow, Maya!

placemats · 14/11/2019 20:07

Wishing Maya all the very best.

'The further a society drifts from the truth, the more it will hate those who speak it' George Orwell.

Forstater speaks the truth.

littlecabbage · 14/11/2019 20:32

Good luck Maya.
