Allegations have been made that the algorithms used to determine eligibility and credit limits for the Apple credit card discriminate against women.

I didn’t even know Apple did a credit card and this case involves a US regulator but as algorithms are increasingly used for mortgages, loans etc, I realise I was mistaken to think they would be neutral.

I think it's a Goldman Sachs credit card, but it does some syncing thing with Apple Pay.

...says more about you than cash ever can.

AI that learns can become sexist because it learns, eventually, that more credit card applications are made by men (or that men are more likely to earn higher salaries) and so learns that women are higher risk. This isn’t new. Apple and Goldman Sachs would both have known about it (Amazon had to ditch a huge and high profile HR project for similar reasons) but they failed to include failsafes into the algorithm to prevent this. My guess is because it was cheaper for the AI to be developed out of house and led by GS rather than being developed by Apple which it really should have been.

Thanks for that background GrumpyHoonMain.
