Transwoman comparing gender reassignment surgery to a miscarriage

I started a thread about this in AIBU tonight but I think it's better placed here after a suggestion I come to the feminist chat.

An episode of embarrassing bodies was on tonight, what I now know to be an re-run of a previous episode - on transgender people.

An intersex woman was talking to her MTF transgender friend about surgery, at which point the transgender friend compares the surgery (removal of packaging) to be like a miscarriage "falling out onto the floor"

As somebody who has miscarried I'm deeply offended and saddened that a transwoman would have the gall to compare the two.

Well, it just shows you that those born male have no idea about what it is to be a woman in a physical material sense.

Lkg4dmcrc · 11/11/2019 01:15

Deeply offensive and like away says above it shows just how those born male have no idea what it is to be a woman. The utter absurdity to compare it to miscarriage but then to go there about "falling out on the floor". Truly deeply offensive.

IWantADifferentName · 11/11/2019 06:47

Wow. That even surpasses Caitlyn Jenner’s comment about the hardest part of being a woman is choosing what to wear every day.

My life and my reality is nothing like that. It in no way matches my experience of womanhood.

I’d like to say more but don’t think I can without a fuck tonne of swearing and a ban.

IWantADifferentName · 11/11/2019 06:49

I’ve had four miscarriages, by the way. I did not choose to voluntarily modify my body and have an unwanted appendage removed!!!

KettlePolly · 11/11/2019 07:17

My miscarriage wasn't a wad of bloody packing coming loose it was a tiny human being which was expelled by two days of uterine contractions. They have no idea do they? Women are merely boobs and a hole.

Velveteenfruitbowl · 11/11/2019 07:19

That’s just horrible. What an awful thing to say.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 11/11/2019 07:36

People sign up willingly to have gender reassignment surgery. So much so that they may pay a lot of money for it. Does this sexist fool think most women want to have miscarriages?

Ethelswith · 11/11/2019 07:54

I have come across all sorts of people who make shit comparisons to miscarriage and to being bereaved of a child.

It's not remotely limited to one demographic in society.

Talk to any group of bereaved parents if you were not previously aware how common (and unrelated to sex/class/gender/colour/incline/employment) this is.

SarahTancredi · 11/11/2019 07:55

Wow they are just desperate to attempt to appropriate anything arent they.

It's not healthy to be so needy.

Coldwatershock · 11/11/2019 07:56

The usual blinkered, self-absorbed delusional nonsense, insensitive, unempathic, failing to take adult responsibility for a choice FFS. And so so evident of having no idea what it is to be female.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 11/11/2019 07:56

‘Gender’ is plain and simple sexism. And misogynists are ignorant fools.

Want to ‘act like’ a woman - so do it but don’t take this ‘logic’ to the next conclusion.

JoyceJeffries · 11/11/2019 07:58

More sexist shit from the TRAs.

JacquesHammer · 11/11/2019 08:00

I got harassed on Twitter for running a m/c chat for biological women given it was to discuss the possible ongoing physical effects.

I was told I was excluding transwomen and their experience was valid.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 11/11/2019 08:01

Just bang on about your poor wee prostate.

RufusthebewiIderedreindeer · 11/11/2019 08:19

Agree with you all

A horrendous thing to say

Completely stupid comment, and i bet they all smiled and fucking nodded on the programme as well

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 11/11/2019 08:59

I think sometimes these idiots just say outrageous crap to try to get someone to attack this/them and say something awful back. It’s a lovely way to play the victim
Isn’t it?

NeurotrashWarrior · 11/11/2019 09:03

Offensive.

jimmyhill · 11/11/2019 09:11

This episode was filmed in 2012! Complain to the Really channel for repeating it if you must

Michelleoftheresistance · 11/11/2019 10:42

This. And 'crass'. The word 'crass' comes to mind.

It's no less crass for having been made in 2012.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 11/11/2019 11:23

Immature. Very very immature and self absorbed.

midcenturylegs · 11/11/2019 11:54

Disgusting, vile and misogynistic behaviour.

Ereshkigal · 12/11/2019 09:12

Yes.

plantainchips · 12/11/2019 09:35

I honestly don’t think it was said to offend. At all. Is it a great comparison, no! However, I think she choice to use it as an example to refer to the great amounts of blood. I don’t think it’s “deeply offensive”. It definitely shouldn’t have said, though. Insensitive.
