Lib Dems actively deterring GC women

Today I emailed the Lib Dems expressing an interest in joining their party.

I stated no one should receive discrimination or abuse for their transgender status but explained that I am GC and I asked if there was room for GC women in the party.

I received the following response:
Thank you for getting in touch. Whilst we appreciate your interest in joining, you should be aware that the Liberal Democrats are a trans inclusive party, and we have made it clear that we fully behind trans communities. As liberals we champion everyone’s right to live the life they want. By the sounds of your email it appears that your values are not aligned with ours so we are probably not the right the party for you.

I am flabbergasted. I didn't expect that I would have to believe that humans can change biological sex in order to be a member of the Lib Dems.

I am so disappointed. I was going to vote for them in the GE (passionate Remainer) but I cannot if this is their response.

There is no one to vote for. I am lost.

"I am a gay man who has had relationships with trans men. I wouldn't date a woman, I'm not interested in women. Trans men are men."

So if the GRC comes in tomorrow and i decide im a man, complete with my skirt and bra, will you suddenly be attracted to me? But you can say for certain you are absolutely not attracted to me today because today ive told you im a woman and you are not straight.

If i dress as a man live, my live as a man but tell you Im a woman would you be attracted to me then?

Begs the question what it is you actually are attracted to.... the person or the gender stereotype

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 21/11/2019 13:18

I'd love for someone, anyone, to explain how attraction to identity would work, given that it doesn't necessarily tell you anything at all about what kind of body the person has or what they look like in general.

DuMondeB · 21/11/2019 13:45

I’m really troubled by Helen Belcher’s wife only being known as

‘Helen Belcher’s Wife’.

The Patriarchy has a lovely new dress. Still the same old misogyny though!

EmpressLesbianInChair · 21/11/2019 13:47

I think there is a fair argument to have about the reasons underlying that, but they shouldn't be abused for what is ultimately their preference. Equally, gays and lesbians like me, who do recognise trans men as men and trans women as women, should not be abused by ""GC"" people and told we aren't real gays/lesbians.

Being lesbian or gay is about being attracted to your own sex. There have always been people arguing with lesbians about why we're not interested in biological males & with gay men about why they're not interested in biological females. Only previously that's been referred to as homophobia or conversion therapy.

Yes. I've just Googled and her name is Joanna.

I was unhappy about typing that, but I was halfway through typing my post when I realised I didn't know her name, and the thread was moving so fast at that point that I was rushing to get the post up.

I should have googled before reposting it though.

YourOpinionIsNoted · 21/11/2019 14:08

Facts has gone missing for a while now. Wonder if someone from the Lib Dems has been in touch to tell them to shut the fuck up and stop telling the internet about how little the party value women? This thread hasn't exactly been great PR for them has it? Grin

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 21/11/2019 14:10

"Why are you actively discouraging people from voting for us? Do you understand the concept of voting in general?"

DontBuyANewMumCashmere · 21/11/2019 14:11

Natalie Bird posted the attached message to a LD campaigners group and was kicked off the group after posting this.

So, facts, don't tell us that people with GC views are welcome.

I'm wondering if they are in fact a slightly sneaky representative of the Conservative Party.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 21/11/2019 14:12

They did seem to be rather familiar with what the Tories are thinking, or so they claimed.

PaleBlueMoonlight · 21/11/2019 14:32

I remain confused as to why the why Lib Dems (and other parties are not wanting/willing to wait for the outcome of the consultation before making policy decisions

thetoddleratemyhomework · 21/11/2019 14:43

@EndoplasmicReticulum

They'd be a pretty rubbish Tory undercover bot given that they were suggesting earlier in the thread that the tories would all be throwing their weight behind self ID too, unless you think they were so sneaky that they were trying to look as if they were discrediting the tories without much credibility. That's a level of sneakiness that I didn't think about at all, I have to admit!!

YourOpinionIsNoted · 21/11/2019 14:52

@thetoddleratemyhomework I wouldn't credit anyone currently in UK politics with that level of intelligence, to be honest.

Needmoresleep · 21/11/2019 15:21

Somewhere up thread Facts suggested Sarah Brown had not been a LD for some time. Not what this Twitter account suggests

thetoddleratemyhomework · 21/11/2019 15:35

@YourOpinionIsNoted

That's my thinking, just wondering what I had missed Smile. By the way, I am interested in the tory and LD position as I am in a seat where the LDs will be the only real challengers to the tory incumbents, so I am very interested in which is lesser of two evils, lest anyone thinks I am too invested in comparing the two myself!

That’s a good sign.

The Lib Dem’s are demanding clarification from Labour. Why? Why don’t they just get on with promoting their clearly-superior manifesto 🙃

SunsetBeetch · 21/11/2019 19:08

Oh no, are the Lib Dems worried they're going to be left holding the baby?

merrymouse · 21/11/2019 19:15

"The spousal veto policies (that being, removing the spousal veto and allowing people to restore their marriges), comes alongside another libdem policy, that being no fault divorce. So anyone in a marriage that they no longer want to be in, whatever the reason, can get a divorce far easier than they can currently."

No fault divorce is not a 'Lib Dem policy'. There is already a government bill proposing no fault divorce.

If either party can divorce the other quickly and with no fault, that works both ways and it's really not clear why spousal veto is a problem.

On the other hand it is impossible to protect any group's rights without being able to explain who the members of that group are, and that is what the Lib Dems are currently failing to do. They can't explain what a woman is except in terms of a stereotype.

"Trans men are men."

Except in any country where women don't have access to full human rights, they will be treated just like any other woman, because nobody gives a toss about your identity if they don't care about your rights, which is why it is important to have sex based rights.

You talk about 'staying in the closet', but women don't have a choice to stay in the closet. The consequences of being born female start at birth, whether that is in the form of genital mutilation or being classed as somebody who doesn't need to be educated.

I think there is a conflict between people who view rights as a way of gaining affirmation and finding community, and people who recognise that nobody gives a fuck about your identity when you are excluded from equal participation in society.

GCAcademic · 21/11/2019 19:24

Lib Dem councillors not happy about Labour's manifesto

Hilarious. “We know our party is not going to get anywhere near power, so we need to lobby the parties that might”.

TinselAngel · 21/11/2019 19:32

Precisely! Otherwise you'd be pleased they had different policies!

Procrastinator2 · 21/11/2019 19:43

Joanna Belcher supports Helen apparently www.newstatesman.com/politics/staggers/2019/09/liberal-democrats-decide-remove-controversial-trans-spousal-veto

ThePurported · 21/11/2019 20:02

Yeah, I think the whole LibDem policy on spousal "veto" (why do they insist on using that misleading word?) is based on the opinion of Joanna and Helen Belcher.

Oh no, are the Lib Dems worried they're going to be left holding the baby?
It certainly looks that way Grin

There's still the Green Party, who are so advanced in genderism that their chairpeople must declare their gender identities so that the party can monitor identity balance across its decision-making bodies - at least 50% of chair roles must be held by non-male gender identities.
