Lib Dems actively deterring GC women

Today I emailed the Lib Dems expressing an interest in joining their party.

I stated no one should receive discrimination or abuse for their transgender status but explained that I am GC and I asked if there was room for GC women in the party.

I received the following response:
Thank you for getting in touch. Whilst we appreciate your interest in joining, you should be aware that the Liberal Democrats are a trans inclusive party, and we have made it clear that we fully behind trans communities. As liberals we champion everyone’s right to live the life they want. By the sounds of your email it appears that your values are not aligned with ours so we are probably not the right the party for you.

I am flabbergasted. I didn't expect that I would have to believe that humans can change biological sex in order to be a member of the Lib Dems.

I am so disappointed. I was going to vote for them in the GE (passionate Remainer) but I cannot if this is their response.

There is no one to vote for. I am lost.

Empress yes, you would Sad which shows just how chilling and insidious its all been, I think Confused

Timeforanewname2014 · 16/11/2019 13:48

Does anyone know how I can send this thread to my local Lib Dem candidate please? I have campaigned for them in the past and had planned to this time but as a result of this can't even bring myself to vote for them 🙁

Justhadathought · 16/11/2019 14:07

My view was its surely better to have people active in their party, who are GC, trying to change policy from within as well? Otherwise, how will the policies ever change?

Sounds good in theory.....but, for example, last week I had a long conversation with a woman out campaigning on behalf of the Labour party in my local city centre. She had been a Labour party activist for her whole adult life...and she agreed with what I was saying and had much sympathy. She said being in the Labour party was like being in a 'bad marriage' for her, but it was what she knew, and she still believed in change from the inside.

What she could not answer, though, was why she and many others in the party were too scared to speak openly about it, and why not one Labour MP had ever stood up in parliament and spoken out on this issue.

She was still compelled to say that the Labour party believed in 'Equality' above all.

Are you joking?

Every single openly gender critical member of the Greens has been suspended or expelled! How are we meant to change things when we would be kicked out for doing so?

CarolCutrere · 16/11/2019 14:55

It's Scottish Greens but Andy Wightman who is by far and away their highest profile MSP must have got a talking to just for attending a meeting where Julie Bindel and Rosa Freedman were speaking. Wightman tweeted a pretty innocuous comment saying little more than it had given him something to think about. (I'm paraphrasing)

Next thing he's apologising profusely for just having attended. Wightman is a combative, no holds barred bruiser. He can be extremely rude about people he disagrees with (and as his main focus is land reform rather than Green issues the people he disagrees with are numerous. I've peripherally been one of them) I've never seen him apologise before.

boatyardblues · 16/11/2019 15:22

Have they told men who believe that male and female human beings exist in a biological sense not to vote for them as well?

No need. DH told me after the Luciana Berger interview on R4 Today this week there’s no way they’re getting his vote now.

It's very difficult, isn't it, when you have a decent human being as a candidate for a political party that you just can't support.

Our current dilemma with our sitting MP, sadly.

DontBuyANewMumCashmere · 16/11/2019 16:28

Timeforanewname2014
Can you copy and paste the address and email the candidate?

I had a reply from Tories, they said to ask my local association, which I have just done.

No word from Labour or the Lib Dem main membership address.

Bunch of pricks.

I haven't the energy to wade through this whole thread, but can someone tell me is the stance the same for all the parties? What is the Tory stance on this?
I suggest we all send a copy of this thread to our local LD MP.

DontBuyANewMumCashmere · 16/11/2019 18:00

Sunset I think Labour LDs Greens and WEP are all TWAW.
Tories are tiptoeing back from it but I don't think they've come out and said anything explicitly.
Liz Truss did also speak recently about protecting sex based rights.

I have just had a reply from my Labour candidate. He told me that transwomen should be allowed in to our loos and changing because:

'Some trans-gender women have no male genitalia, others only partial male genitalia and others are fully biologically male. I'm not sure how the degree to which a trans-gender person was still biologically male could be fairly assessed...'

Yes readers, this Labour candidate actually does think that human beings can change sex.
This is what we are dealing with.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 16/11/2019 21:54

Wow - name and shame this primary school dropout!

DontBuyANewMumCashmere · 16/11/2019 22:10

God, is he just using 'biologically male' to mean HAS PENIS?
The ideology has spread so far people can't use their own brains and instead parrot any old shit.

I'm confident if TW were demanding he accepted their lady dicks he'd be a bit more understanding.

Partial male genitalia
Like balls but no winkle?
Yup that happens

IWantADifferentName · 16/11/2019 22:52

When I read some of convoluted ways in which people struggle to express themselves over transgenderism, I start to wonder if we should indeed change our language. Penis toilets and vagina toilets instead of men‘s and women’s. Then there could be no obfuscation.

ShesDressedInBlackAgain · 16/11/2019 23:31

I don't want no-penis men in my toilets. So no.

OccasionalKite · 16/11/2019 23:43

Did any woman, ever, object to having women's spaces? It is just men who object to women having women's spaces, and who wish to crash and colonise women's spaces etc.

OccasionalKite · 16/11/2019 23:46

Why are political parties unable to recognise women and women's historic and ongoing sex-based oppression?

allmywhat · 16/11/2019 23:57

Why does this Labour pillock only care about being "fair" to "trans-gender women" and not at all about being fair to actual women?

OldCrone · 17/11/2019 00:03

Why does this Labour pillock only care about being "fair" to "trans-gender women" and not at all about being fair to actual women?

Because he's a transphobic bigot who doesn't believe that transwomen are women. If he believed transwomen were women, their feelings wouldn't matter either.

OccasionalKite · 17/11/2019 00:06

That is the thing. Those politicians who are bending themselves over to accommodate men who claim womanhood, but do nothing at all for women and children.

OccasionalKite · 17/11/2019 00:08

Yes, OldCrone - there is that, too!

BeMoreMagdalen · 17/11/2019 00:15

'Because he's a man' is a generalization, but it is remarkably appropriate in a great many situations. I've found myself saying 'Because Bloke' rather a lot recently. Sometimes you just get fed up wasting words on long explanations as to why male humans are entitled wankers who piss all over women at every opportunity. BB works when I can't be arsed.

SunsetBeetch · 17/11/2019 09:28

Why are you surprised that the Liberal Democrats (the clue is in the name) wouldn't want to recruit openly prejudiced people to their ranks?

Tim Farron

koshkat · 17/11/2019 09:45

I did send him a good long email back mentioning, ahem, chromosomes and took him to task on a few other things too.

It was a very weird email he sent because he was not pro men competing against women in sport, but thought it was ok for men to share loos and changing spaces with women.

This bit got short shrift from me too in the light of Labour pretending that men can be women if they put on a dress:

'I hope you will see that, despite our different opinions on trans-gender women, the Labour Party is the party for women. We have more female MPs and than any other party (almost 50% more than the Conservatives, despite us having fewer MPs). We are the only party to use All Women Shortlists for at least 50% of our target seats and 75% of conference spaces. We have a separate women's conference. Women's Officers are compulsory on all constituency 'executive committees' (the governing body for constituencies) and all executive committees must have a gender balance of 50% women officers. The same applies to our national executive committee (NEC) and national policy forum'

Not enough eye rolls in the fucking world. They have lost the plot and it is sad to see.
