Emma Watson talks to Paris Lees about feminism

'This Christmas, Watson is back on the big screen as Margaret “Meg” March in Greta Gerwig’s adaptation of Louisa May Alcott’s Little Women.

The project couldn’t be a better fit for Emma, combining, as it does, many of her loves: literature, film and exploring the female experience. “With Meg’s character, her way of being a feminist is making the choice – because that’s really, for me anyway, what feminism is about,”

Interesting that "female choice" is what Emma deems feminism to be, as reported by Lees.

I saw the "self partnered" thing and just rolled my eyes and thought "what a Pollock." Could she be more self-absorbed if she tried? (And I say that as someone cheerfully single myself).

It's all a bit "conscious uncoupling", isn't it? She'll be bringing out a range of Shay butter for one's nether regions and ovoid objects to shove up your foof before you can say "inner feminine essence". In fact, just in time for Christmas I reckon.

BarbaraStrozzi · 05/11/2019 16:24

Pillock not Pollock. My phone is northern phobic.

ErrolTheDragon · 05/11/2019 16:35

I'm afraid I saw the 'self-partnered' thing, sniggered and thought, there's a word for that. Blush being happily single is a common choice which doesn't need a label.

MissLawls · 05/11/2019 17:16

I quite miss being single sometimes... I wonder if others feel same way. That's a subject for a whole other thread tho

HandsOffMyRights · 05/11/2019 17:30

So you have an unconscious uncoupling and might become self-partnered?

HandsOffMyRights · 05/11/2019 17:30

Miss I feel the same...

Barbara it's Shea butter.

AbsintheFriends · 05/11/2019 18:04

Feminism is the core of Emma's brand. It's commercial currency to her. Something is feminist because Emma the Famous Feminist decrees it so.

She's a bit like the Emily Howard character on Little Britain: I imagine her perusing the menu in The Ivy and checking that the Lobster Thermidor is suitable for feminists. Or asking designers to only send over things from their New Season Feminist collection, because she absolutely won't wear anything else.

Self partnered

Lol

Do we think she's okay?

ShesDressedInBlackAgain · 05/11/2019 20:05

Emma? U ok hun?

ConfessionsOfTeenageDramaQueen · 05/11/2019 20:06

Wake me up when she can act. Have you seen the trailer? She's abysmal (in that and everything else I've seen her in).

Em's brand of "feminism" is the same as Jameela Jamil's - it's a vehicle for self-promotion, used as an attempt to make them look less shallow and more worthy, but if you cut through to the heart of it it's all hot air.

I couldn't find one person that could explain to me what her "he for she" UN initiative was about. It was literally a load of crap.

But it gets her on the cover of Vogue so I guess it's working. And don't think her choice of Paris Lees conducting the interview wasn't a statement, by the way. It absolutely is.

Koloh · 05/11/2019 20:09

Eh. Sleb is fool, news at 11.

Actors spend their lives going to the gym, starving themselves, standing where they are told and reading out lines other people have written.

Only fools and children would take their opinions seriously.

BarbaraStrozzi · 05/11/2019 20:21

Shea butter, you say, BeMoreMagdalen? Dammit, have I failed femininity 101 yet again?

Toorahtoorahaye · 05/11/2019 20:47

She’s young and still has a lot to experience and learn - seems her heart is in the right place. Glad she’s not playing Jo though it would show her acting ability.

GCAcademic · 05/11/2019 21:51

She’s not that young, she’s about to turn 30. I agree she has a lot to experience and learn though. However, the likelihood of her doing so in her elite, cosseted sleb bubble is slim.

BeMoreMagdalen · 05/11/2019 22:09

Barbara, perhaps you should spend some time in the kitchen cooking a nice pollock.Grin

AFistfulofDolores1 · 05/11/2019 22:19

I said some ridiculous shite when I was younger. Being young, Emma Watson, to me, is saying some equally ridiculous shite. It's all part of the infuriating journey of 'Finding Oneself'.

What makes it more infuriating is that she's famous, which gives what she says far more credence than it deserves.

BarbaraStrozzi · 05/11/2019 22:27

BeMore can you saute it in shea butter?

BeMoreMagdalen · 05/11/2019 22:36

Yes, but for god's sake don't pop it in your nethers afterwards.

Sheheshe · 05/11/2019 23:18

The interview in full here. I actually have some sympathy with her as her life has been so strange. This interview with Paris Lees is rather excruciating though and at times I think Lees forgets who’s interviewing who. Emma knows a 6 year old trans child and cannot fathom how anyone can not be trans inclusive. And Feminism is all about choice. The depth of engagement is very ‘Vogue’. Sigh. m.youtube.com/watch?v=cQynYGDpyiw

Melroses · 05/11/2019 23:35

She'll be bringing out a range of Shay butter for one's nether regions

Wasn't there some pube oil a couple of years ago?

Datun · 06/11/2019 00:09

Lees for all her faults had a much harder time than Watson. The assault was when she was much younger and wasn't it a punter? That doesn't excuse it but people do change and should be allowed second chances.

I thought it was when lees was robbing someone?

Driechdrizzle · 06/11/2019 01:04

Would Emma Watson get a second chance if she seriously assaulted someone and got sent to prison for it? Women are generally unforgiven for crimes.

Lees certainly got a second chance - Lees is now a minor celebrity.

Waterl00 · 06/11/2019 01:23

I used to buy Vogue to look at the clothing but the blurry heroin chic photos of emaciated women who had fallen off the furniture in the dark and had the 3k skirt scrunched up under their arse made me give up. You just knew they were so off their heads the photographers had either shagged her before or after. Aspirational? Nope, sad.

Has it got better? Can I buy Vogue again?
