Oh look, it's those guidelines making no sense whatsoever again!

So, I got an email about a comment in which I said that I wanted to know why genderists keep comparing trans identified males to black women and lesbians being deleted. I think this is absolutely barmy, and have said so to HQ. I'm also baffled as to how this breaks any guidelines and thought perhaps it was time for us as a group to revisit the guidelines and explain once more to MNHQ why they're not working.

What's actually happening here is the the obsessive trans activists who monitor this site are attempting to pick off posters one by one. We lost Orchid last week, and she was just the most recent of many. I'm not sure in MNHQ realize that's happening and welcome it or if it's somehow escaped their notice, but it's a pretty messed up thing for them to be allowing to happen to their users, in my opinion. Are they going to allow this to continue until the only commenters left in this forum are the TRAs who want the entire site shut down?

I know the people who despise the women here would very much like this to all happen under the radar, and that's exactly why I'm not allowing it to play out that way.

Being banned for saying that is beyond ridiculous!
But did I really read that people have had posts deleted for saying "bless" and "yawn"?? What's that about?

Driechdrizzle · 05/11/2019 12:43

Are Mumsnet reading intent into posts and then assuming the worst possible motives? That doesn't seem right, unless I'm misunderstanding.

TalkingintheDark · 05/11/2019 12:47

Agreed, Datun.

They were deemed “uncivil” or “not in the spirit”, Isadora.

FWR is held to very, very different standards from the rest of the site. Given how bread-and-butter those responses are for much of the site, and how savage AIBU, for example, can be, it’s quite extraordinary.

Driechdrizzle · 05/11/2019 12:50

My goodness, AIBU is an absolute bear pit.

Mumsnet is blunt, opinionated, rude and funny. It seems those qualities are not welcome on this particular part of the site, although they are absolutely in the spirit of the site as a whole.

theflushedzebra · 05/11/2019 12:56

AIBU scares me.

The Brexit threads scare me.

The election threads will be terrifying Grin

But women on FWR are only allowed to talk about women - that's adult human females - if they are very. careful. with. their. language.

Can't be offending any delicate wokesters now. Hope they're all enjoying spreading candle wax Flora on their bread Grin

ShesDressedInBlackAgain · 05/11/2019 12:58

Hold on. MN banned Orchid for sympathising with someone? I don't get it?

theflushedzebra · 05/11/2019 13:06

It was who she was sympathising with, I guess. A mother of a trans child. Actually, it was the child themselves - but HQ appear to have turned a blind eye to this (ill-advisedly, imho).

It was probably reported as "transphobic" - as it implies that it is awful to have a trans child.

I think the ban was exceedingly heavy handed though.

theflushedzebra · 05/11/2019 13:09

But it just makes you wonder what else is on banhammer list.

Will it be not endorsing a double mastectomy for a 16/17 yr old?

Will it be the (correct) term "double mastectomy" because we must use the euphemism "top surgery" ?

Will it be "woke" or "wokesters" that is considered beyond the pale next?

I can't tell.

Butterisbest · 05/11/2019 13:39

I've just seen on the littlbrowndog MIA thread that Orchid has been told by MNHQ to "go well"

IsadoraQuagmire · 05/11/2019 13:55

TalkingintheDark I thought I must be missing something, considering that sarcasm and incivility are all over MN anyway.
At far as sarcasm goes, those are extremely mild. Are they banning the Biscuit from this board too?Grin

Stealing our names appears to be the latest fad on MN.

Yeah, there's an inverse Beyond posting too, hadn't noticed it was a "thing". Thought I wasn't around enough nowadays to be noticed tbh

BeyondBreakingPoint · 05/11/2019 14:21

There are gonna be a lot of posters banned for empathising with non-trans parenting situations Spartacus. If we're reading the worst - disgusted maybe - interpretation to any post that states a situation is awful.

Oh no, wait, of course there won't be... Angry

Men forcing women to use particular language and refer to them in a way which denies reality, is a form of male brutality on women.

Yy, Detroit, it’s classic coercive control, just another item in the long list of male violence against women and girls. Emotional abuse on a grand scale.

Made possible by the fact it’s males who are the sex with considerably more power and privilege than females, however much some try to convince the world that “c*s privilege” is a real thing that female people have relative to biologically male transgender people.

TalkingintheDark · 05/11/2019 14:45

Isadora I know, I know...

HopeMumsnet · 05/11/2019 16:52

Hi all,
We're sorry for the delay in responding to the various queries that have come up on this thread but rest assured we are reading and having a think and preparing a response.
If you could all bear with us a bit longer, we'd be really grateful.

HandsOffMyRights · 05/11/2019 16:55

Thanks Hope. Can I add that I have not been informed in email of my deletions by Mumsnet.

ErrolTheDragon · 05/11/2019 17:03

Thanks for the update Hope - as I said last night, I'd rather have a considered response than a quick one.

ControversialFerret · 05/11/2019 20:20

Piers Morgan has been cleared by Ofcom for his "strongly held beliefs."

I have a strongly held belief that it's impossible for human beings to change sex. A belief, that handily, is backed up by science. I believe that gender is a social construct and that putting on a dress and calling yourself 'Beryl' doesn't make you a woman. I believe that a woman is an adult human female - and that regardless of how you dress, what your name is or the way you choose to identify, your biological sex is immutable and you will always be female.

I also have a strongly held belief that forcing people to use language and accept ideas which run completely contrary to this fact, is a form of coercive control. And when those people affected are disproportionately women, that it's a form of control which is rooted in sexism and misogyny.

theflushedzebra · 05/11/2019 20:32

Me too, Ferret, me too.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 05/11/2019 20:45

I'm sure I've put myself in the crosshairs both by starting this thread and by objecting to the original deletion and will be gone soon but again, the thing is, that's not OK. Retaliation against those who raise concerns is not OK. People who monitor the site but don't participate being allowed to pick us off by attrition until there's nobody left who can object to their plans for all of us is not OK. Mothers being banned for expressing concern about what they think another mother is going through is not OK. Making it so hard to express what you're trying to say while navigating the complex and ever open to interpretation rules that many women just give up is not OK. The rolling strike system is an appalling way to treat adult women who're trying to discuss something that's incredibly important to them - be a bit too honest once and just say what you're thinking instead of carefully self censoring and be very firmly told that that won't do and you'd better not do it again for a while or you're out.

The result is an environment that punishes the core users and keeps them on edge, and the people it's being done on behalf of still hate both us and MN in general and want to shut it down. Whatever is done to control how we speak it will never be enough for those people, because what they want is for us not to be allowed to speak at all.

Look, I love this site. At its best it's a brilliant resource for women, and it's full of wit and wisdom and collective knowledge about everything related to navigating life as a woman. But singling the feminists out for constant control at the behest of an activist group who're using the mod team as a proxy in their attempts to punish us for not doing what they want is just not OK and it needs to stop.

Brava.

If we're talking borderline passive aggressive sarcasm, 'Go well' is right up there.
