Another step in the pushback. Opponents say none of what she claims is happening. In which case there is surely no problem in having the law.

Not read it because it's a link but I assume it doesn't mean hair cuts as well.

Whenever I see one of these southern US state legislatures pushing for something like this, I wonder if there’s something in it for them in terms of curtailing women’s reproductive rights. For example, can minor females/girls be barred from accessing contraception and terminations using this to establish a principle?

ErrolTheDragon · 31/10/2019 08:57

The link doesn't work for me - and I assume won't for many here - because I'm accessing from a country with GDPR. Are there any other sources for this, OP?

bellinisurge · 31/10/2019 08:58

@boatyardblues inclined to agree.

Another link to the story. I managed to see the one in the OP using a VPN.

Thanks Old Crone for the new link.

Yes it's v unfortunate that some of the people pushing against this also would seem to soppier removing women's reproductive rights etc.

But the fact that we've arrived at a point in western democracy where we actively need a law to stop children being sterilised and stop them having healthy body parts removed just beggars belief.

Ehrhart last year defeated Democratic opponent Jen Slipakoff

Check out the stereotypes.

Jeez, in between kindergarten and 1st grade their son transitioned to a girl.....just because they liked pink clothes Shock but that’s a healthy lifestyle choice.

Inebriati · 31/10/2019 13:18

I would like to see a very narrow definition that concentrates on permanent medical changes.
Clothes, hairstyles, preferences and presentation should not be included.

ArnoldWhatshisknickers · 31/10/2019 13:28

After several years, Jen began to realize this was about much more than what types of toys and clothes Eli liked. Eli was struggling with something deeper—but those struggles seemed to dissipate when he could put on those pink pajamas. Only then did he seem truly happy.

Eh? It's about something much deeper but dissipates with the application of pink pyjamas?

Do these people ever even listen to themselves? If it was much deeper the clothes wouldn't change anything.

I fully understand the concerns regarding basic women's rights in parts of the US but at the same time I can't not support a particular policy just because a group also has policies I profoundly disagree with. Ending the 'transitioning' of children is an urgent priority. If the Democrats won't countenance it then sooner or later the Republicans will because it is clearly and unequivocally wrong and decent people won't turn a blind eye forever.

The so called 'liberals' in the US and elsewhere will have no one but themselves to blame if it ends up being banned on the terms of their opponents if they aren't willing to do what's right.

Coyoacan · 31/10/2019 13:36

It reads like a very sensible proposal. It is purely about giving child drugs and surgery for gender reassignment.

skql · 31/10/2019 14:27

god bless her/him.

Purpleartichoke · 31/10/2019 15:11

A law like this is desperately needed. I’d like to see it paired with a law that says schools can not impose gendered clothing rules on students. Self-expression at any age absolutely should be supported, but medical alteration of minors needs to be prohibited.

TemporaryPermanent · 31/10/2019 16:23

Agree that I'm suspicious about single issue laws trying to grandstand on this. What else gets attached to this?
