Pornhub and Ocean Polymers Partnership

Wakaranaihito · 30/10/2019 14:02

There is a video online with a porn video filmed on the world's filthiest beach. You click on it and a donation goes to an organisation called Ocean Polymers who clean up beaches. I asked if it was the same org as the Porn hub partnership. They said yes. So I just wrote a couple of lines to the company:

"Is the Porn industry something that Ocean Polymer supports? How does that fit with your values? "

I got this in response:

*"Hi there and thank you SO much for the further contact.

I do not feel it is my place to take a position on the political or social aspects of the Porn industry itself. If I could solve one of, what I deem to be the world’s problems (plastic in our oceans), I would die a happy lady so I ensure I stay focused to that one cause as if I looked at ALL the issues we face as humanity I would be entirely overwhelmed.

At OP the team’s focus is aimed at progressing our work to get our marine based solution to mismanaged plastic and waste out on the ocean and in the water to start rectifying the mess that humanity has made to this delicate eco system. We completely understand that some people might be uncomfortable with our partnering with Pornhub, or any brand within the adult industry for that matter. But whether or not you approve of porn, no one can deny its massive popularity (Pornhub alone receives over 100 million unique visitors a day) around the world. We’re not here to judge those who produce porn, work in the industry, or those who consume it. Our mission has always been to reach as many people as we can with our message in order to incite change. For us, this campaign was an opportunity to reach out to an absolutely enormous audience in an attention grabbing way and is ultimately in line with our mission to spread awareness of the crisis we face. The couple that appear in the video are adults, and a real couple in a long term relationship who upload their own homemade videos to the channel. They willingly participated in the film and have stated how happy they are to be working work with both Pornhub and Ocean Polymers on a campaign to help raise awareness for such an important issue, which is one that is close to their heart. I’m not about to judge them for their sexual preferences and just because they enjoy porn doesn’t mean they can’t also care about our planet and doing what they can, just as I do in my industry of choice.

I commend any company and their CSR when they use their reach and influence for positive change, especially at our time our planet needs it more than ever and I only wish and hope that other more mainstream brands undertake such responsibility to use their voice for positive change on behalf of our planet. We are all part of this problem and humanities impact on our earth is not subjective to 1 country, ethnicity, sex or industry, so why wouldn’t we engage all channels possible to share the message and make people think about their impact. Ultimately we must all work together to be part of the solution.
I am impressed by Pornhub and their commitment to subjects concerning the environment , women issues and sexual health and through their charitable association ‘Pornhub Cares’ they have created an annual scholarship for women in tech , collaborating with different NGO’s and charities in the process. In their initiatives the brand is taking a step toward tackling issues that face their users in hope to use their powerful presence in the media and culture to incite change and in this instance do their part to curb the ever growing crisis we face in our oceans today. I feel they are arguably doing more for social responsibility than many that really should be.

They use their reach to provide a powerful positive message, On International Women’s Day to honour women they changed their icon and quoted the importance of remembering always that women are not sex objects but are equals deserving of equal respect. They offer a sex ed section on their web, they have resources to combat revenge porn and domestic abuse this is just a couple of examples I am aware of re their commitment to promoting positivity and responsibility in the sex work industry and they are actively use their widespread influence in a responsible manner. Many women have incredibly successful, fulfilling careers in this industry through their choice, is that a career I would pursue personally ‘no’ but it is not my place to judge anyone – We all have different paths and believe we should follow them with conviction, respect and good vibes.

If you ever want to talk further don’t hesitate to contact me,
Have a great afternoon "*

From a female manager.

All hail Pornhub for all they do for the world - without them women will never be free and the oceans will remain dirty.

I despair.

What the fuck, trying to make porn about saving the planet.
What next, paedophiles who want to help the homeless?
I wonder if Ghislaine Maxwell has anything to do with this, didn't she have some kind of ocean related charity thing?

AssassinatedBeauty · 30/10/2019 14:13

Maybe reply asking about the 15 year old girl that was rescued after being kidnapped by men who then videoed her being raped and posted over 50 videos and images of that onto Porhub. Wonder if she's as cool about child rape being easily available to all.

She has pathetically low expectations and standards if she's impressed by their IWD efforts, which sound laughably insulting. She sounds desperate to appear "cool" about porn, all this condemnation of anyone "judging" it.

CaptainKirksSpikeyGhost · 30/10/2019 14:14

What the fuck, trying to make porn about saving the planet.

You wrap something bad into something good, then you can shield the bad thing from any criticism.

What next, paedophiles who want to help the homeless?

Or to use an example that happened.... the Jimmy Savile children's wing at Stoke Mandeville Hospital.

QuentinWinters · 30/10/2019 15:02

I kind of admire pornhubs marketing department. They do a great job of getting other companies to suggest anyone who has concerns about porn is judgemental.

NeurotrashWarrior · 30/10/2019 16:15

Jesus.

NeurotrashWarrior · 30/10/2019 16:16

Rather desperate, the charity is effectively prostituting it's self.

Oncewasblueandyellowtwo · 30/10/2019 16:56

No way did that woman just come up with all that themselfs, must have been pre done in collaboration with pornhub,in expectation of people asking what you asked op.

RhinoskinhaveI · 30/10/2019 17:04

yep, pornhub are clearly using the 'Jimmy Saville' school of marketing techniques
vile

Wakaranaihito · 30/10/2019 17:04

@Oncewasblueandyellowtwo actually I think it is just a stream of consciousness writing. And a sarcastic 'thank you SO much' at the start. There is a reason that Pornhub approaches smaller organisations - because they are grateful and naïve.

They did a partnership for saving the Whales before called NSFW and it wasn't the WWF they supported - it was a very small non profit in Washington. A reputable or experienced charity or org wouldn't touch it with a barge pole!

Her answer reads a bit 'yeah but, no but'.

Ocean Polymers, the Pornhub supporters are also going into schools :
www.cleanourocean.com/caring-school-pupils-listen-to-plans-to-clean-up-the-ocean/
Schools need to think very carefully about who they invite into schools to speak with our children, especially companies who proudly support Pornhub ( it’s bad enough with the NSPCC and wanking rubberman fiasco).

Franku · 30/10/2019 19:57

Oh well, we might have generations of young men who can't get it up without fantasising about using and abusing women ... and of course all those women abused, but at least we will have clean beaches. FOR F**Ks SAKE! Please can somebody suggest SOMETHING we can do to prevent this damaging idiocy? All I can think of doing is taking my plastic recycling to the beach and emptying it into the sea, taking a video and sending it to them as an act of sabotage ... and of course that is not going to help anyone.

DancelikeEmmaGoldman · 30/10/2019 20:00

I dunno as I’ve ever read anything creepier than a charity called Pornhub Cares.

FWRLurker · 30/10/2019 20:08

On International Women’s Day to honour women they changed their icon and quoted the importance of remembering always that women are not sex objects but are equals deserving of equal respect.

Yep, I bet that statement was right next to a gif of a woman being pissed and spit on, alongside another one being choked and slapped.

I don’t get it either - the guys visiting pornhub DGAF about the oceans or women. I’m sure they appreciate all of this stuff though as it allows them to feel better about getting off to VAWG. I suspect If OP look at the data theyll see practically No Donation traffic coming over from pornhub.

Childrenofthestones · 31/10/2019 06:30

It's like the Labour Party using P.I.E. activists to deliver their campaign literature......wait......scrub that, they probably have.

Karabair · 31/10/2019 07:54

‘I despair’

I’m not surprised.

Karabair · 31/10/2019 08:21

Ocean Polymers is a waste management company. This seems to be the 21st equivalent of page 3 stuck on the walls of the canteen.

The men at Ocean Polymers can now legitimately watch porn at work. Not that they weren’t already.

Ereshkigal · 31/10/2019 08:43

I dunno as I’ve ever read anything creepier than a charity called Pornhub Cares.

It's almost like they are doing it just to troll, like when The Sun briefly pretended that they got rid of Page 3 but then hilariously revealed that it was a joke.

QuentinWinters · 31/10/2019 08:56

I don’t get it either - the guys visiting pornhub DGAF about the oceans or women
It's about making porn seem lovely and normal, not damaging, and them seem like a responsible company, so couldn't possibly be harming women amirite?

It's like companies like Imperial Tobacco and their PR.

It isnt aimed at the consumers at all, its aimed at government and policy makers so pornhub can carry on operating unfettered.

I hate them Angry

GetbusywiththeFizzee · 31/10/2019 09:02

This seems to be the 21st equivalent of page 3 stuck on the walls of the canteen.

Yes it is. At primary school they used to cover desks for art with old copies of The Sun incl. pg 3. Seems Ocean Polymers have moved on from the 70s but in a very dubious direction. They’re taking their company with its grubby Pornhub connection into schools instead.
Progress.
