A woman cutting through the BS.

AOC is fully on the trans wagon, thinks TWAW, and tweeted that gamer person raising money for Mermaids, so...no.

michaelbaubles · 24/10/2019 11:39

I like her style but yeah, she's all about the woke train and putting her support behind Bernie Sanders, so no hero to women IMO.

Joisanofthedales · 24/10/2019 11:44

I agree she is a strong supporter of trans ideology, so for me, she is someone I have no time for.

TiredofthisBS · 24/10/2019 11:45

Yeah, no. She's fully paid up virtue signalling wokey folky. I don't have any time for her.

chilling19 · 24/10/2019 11:46

Oh no! I didn't know she was on the trans train. How extremely disappointing.

KatvonHostileExtremist · 24/10/2019 11:51

Her retweeting hbomberguy really raised the profile of his fundraiser for mermaids. She probably hasn't a clue about the complexities, so woke is she.

Shame really, she is great in other ways.

FadingStar · 24/10/2019 11:55

Yes, not a fan for the reasons mentioned. Another traitor to women and girls I'm afraid.

nauticant · 24/10/2019 12:11

It's also worth learning a little about AOC and quite how tough her "Bronx upbringing" really was.

bellinisurge · 24/10/2019 12:12

She is a divisive politician in the US and I think they've had their fill of divisive politicians. She's obviously bright and clever and just the sort of young woman I'm glad to see in politics but she is driving moderates away from the democrats.

FWRLurker · 24/10/2019 12:22

I guess the thing that bugs me about her is that she’s like trump sort of a living tweet. She has all these “zingers” to tear people down but where is the substance? Where’s the room for growth or change?

She’s like a justice robot: “This is evil I DESTROY” give me hope and ideas, not just sound bytes

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 24/10/2019 12:29

Oh ffs, I have seen several videos of her on Twitter grilling people and thought she was really good. I am now most disappointed in her.

BernardBlacksWineIceLolly · 24/10/2019 12:35

People are multi faceted innit?

Like Stella Creasy who believes TWAW but is clear enough about female biology to fight for the women of Northern Ireland to have access to abortion (and once again Stella, good on you for that Flowers )

I don’t know much about A O’C, but I try not to completely discount someone just because they’ve had a little fail on understanding basic biology

Matereality · 24/10/2019 13:02

Many of used to think that TWAW. I'm inclined to give her more time.

chilling19 · 24/10/2019 13:12

Just find it hard to understand how such a bright woman cannot apply her critical thinking skills in relation to the trans issue. Baffling.

OP posts:
FWRLurker · 24/10/2019 13:14

I would agree with the last poster as I agree many of us have changed our minds. However her support extends to unqualified backing of males in women’s sport. She said that keeping a male Minnesota WEIGHTLIFTER out of powerlifting was transphobic hate and bigotry. Even at my wokest I went “hmmm” to TW in women’s sport and the best I could muster was a “weeeell maybe it could be fair if someone was on E for a long time and had surgery...”

She needs to get off social media and talk to her constituents in person.

jadefinch · 24/10/2019 13:17

She said she has 'cis privilege' so it's a no from me

twitter.com/tomselliott/status/1090743786827927552

FadingStar · 24/10/2019 13:46

I just don't see how believing that TWAW is anything but misogyny. And it has been pointed out and explained to her umpteen times that women's rights are being horrendously stripped away because of this ideology yet she is rigid. So a definite No from me too.

NewNameGuy · 24/10/2019 13:49

Her opinion on almost everything is wrong

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 24/10/2019 13:52

No.

@FWRLurker and @FadingStar @nauticant have already made the points I came on to make.

Dervel · 24/10/2019 13:53

@TiredofthisBS I’m a little in love with “wokey folky” can I steal it please?

TiredofthisBS · 24/10/2019 15:42

@Dervel of course! Grin

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 24/10/2019 16:06

@Dervel Star love it!!

Goosefoot · 24/10/2019 18:44

I don't love her, (though I quite like Sanders.) But she's all identity politics all the time.

Goosefoot · 24/10/2019 18:44

But a heck of a lot of people argue TWAW before they suddenly realise its bunk.

GrumpyGran8 · 24/10/2019 21:03

But a heck of a lot of people argue TWAW before they suddenly realise its bunk.
I'm hoping that will prove to be the case with AOC. But realistically, that probably won't happen.
She jumped into the gamerguy's Mermaid fundraiser primarily to raise her own profile amongst the "woke young"; then supported the trans powerlifter largely (it seems to me) because her good friend ilhan Omar supported it. It appears she will speak in support of anything that she thinks appeals to her fanbase of teenagers and students, especially if Trump and the Republicans are against it - hence her endorsement of TWAW.
I'm now waiting to hear what she says about the sad case of the transitioning 7-year old Texan boy. That she's so far stayed silent on this may may be a sign that she's finally getting peaktransed.
