Foxes in the henhouse.

OhHolyJesus · 23/10/2019 22:22

Wow. That didn't take long.

Is that the NSPCC's official stance? I think Tony should read the social media employee policy.

LangCleg · 23/10/2019 22:27

NSPCC needs an external investigation by government. It has statutory power, FFS.

Haworthia · 23/10/2019 22:59

Suddenly their initial support for the rubber fetish toilet wanker guy (his name escapes me) makes sense.

Whatisthisfuckery · 23/10/2019 23:01

I can’t see that, can someone please transcribe the screenshot?

Haworthia · 23/10/2019 23:02

Sarah Phillimore (hi Sarah 👋) makes some excellent points about attitudes towards male sexual entitlement.

TheBullshitGoesOn · 23/10/2019 23:06

What Lang said.

AutumnRose1 · 23/10/2019 23:10

whatisthisfuckery I can see it but I can't explain it because I don't understand it

I realise that rapid evolution of social media terms is a key part of all this but I can't keep up with it.

Melroses · 23/10/2019 23:15

If you click on the links, they are still up on Twitter.

RadicalStitch · 23/10/2019 23:19

I find this tweet even more concerning; he is concerns that children aren't given enough privacy by their parents online. How the actual fuck does a man with this agenda end up in a job like this?!

Lookingsparkly · 23/10/2019 23:39

HOW did he end up in this job? WTF is wrong with the NSPCC?

zebrasdontwearbras · 23/10/2019 23:40

Ever wondered why they go so hard against posie?

I mean apart from the fab hair and all that?

It's because she's highlighting this stuff: This complete bonfire of child safeguarding, this utter sexualisation of children that's going on. Seems to be acceptable to the likes of the NSPCC and Peter Tatchell. But not us, not to posie, not to Sara Phillimore, not to mumsnetters.

I don't know what the significance is of the AbFab picture though? Love a bit of AbFab myself, and as far as I'm aware, it never sexualised children?

AutumnRose1 · 23/10/2019 23:43

Oh, I hadn't seen those tweets in the screenshots.

terfsandwich · 23/10/2019 23:43

Confused Pregnant women must recuse themselves from popular sexualised literature. How very Handmaid's Tale.

RadicalStitch · 23/10/2019 23:47

@zebrasdontwearbras I think the Ab Fab gif is just him flicking the finger at LGBalliance. Don't think it's relevant or a problem it's Ab Fab.

zebrasdontwearbras · 23/10/2019 23:51

Oh right I get it.

Well I reckon Eddy & Pats are on our side. Saffy would possibly be woke nowadays Wink

Glass of Bolly darling?

BadgertheBodger · 23/10/2019 23:53

Fucking HELL.

Dear whoever is in charge of child safeguarding in this country.

Can you please step in and have a deep trawl through the NSPCC and order a very thorough investigation? It has become very apparent they are dodgy as fuck.

Yours,

FWR

AppleBlossomTimeNow · 23/10/2019 23:55

It reveals a misogynistic, male-centred, porn normalising culture that puts LGBT rights ahead of child protection - from
hiring 'DM me if you want to chat' MB, to the bloke wanking/filming in the bogs & now this. Really, really concerning. Doesn't the NSPCC have the will or the integrity to see why these employees (who seem to think they can get away with unprofessional & unethical behaviour IRL and online) are a huge red flag that betrays how messed up their priorities have become? It's baffling & depressing. To protect LGBT rights at all costs has created a culture where these guys think they can get away with anything. Is it poor judgement or something far, far more worrying going on here?

truthisarevolutionaryact · 24/10/2019 00:16

These people evidently see the celebration of porn as a basis for their work in safeguarding. There's an intrinsic lack of awareness of children's needs and boundaries that is exceptionally troubling in an organisation allegedly devoted to safeguarding children.

donquixotedelamancha · 24/10/2019 00:30

I find this tweet even more concerning; he is concerns that children aren't given enough privacy by their parents online. How the actual fuck does a man with this agenda end up in a job like this?!

Yeah, I found that thread calling parental internet monitoring systems 'horrifying' to be really odd given his job.

The system he (and linked thread) complain about seems to be one which uses keywords and watchlists to flag up when a child's browsing needs investigation- rather than blocking or wholesale monitoring.

mobile.twitter.com/tony_stower/status/1186929740835426304

It's hard to be clear but the issue seems to be a lack of privacy opt out for 'Black, brown, trans or neurodivergent youth'; though he seems against 'controlling children' online in general.

NSPCC take the opposite view here:

www.nspcc.org.uk/preventing-abuse/keeping-children-safe/online-safety/parental-controls/

I had to look again, just to be sure, but he really is Head of Child Safety Online for the NSPCC.

AppleBlossomTimeNow · 24/10/2019 00:34

Bloody hell. That is really worrying. Is privacy a more important value than safety when working with children & vulnerable young people? Madness.

AncientLights · 24/10/2019 06:24

His Tweets are now protected.

testing987654321 · 24/10/2019 06:26

Oh well that's reassuring.
