Singletrackworld is a forum for mountain bikers. Many of whom are male. Not much sympathy for McKinnon here: singletrackworld.com/forum/topic/rachel-mckinnon-defends-track-world-title/

McKinnon is determined to stamp out any dissent.

Sorry Mumsnet mods, I had no intention to piss anyone off or be disruptive, it just made me laugh. I can see why you removed it.

I am currently arguing with a group of US men in Facebook. One of them posted about trans women being attacked in his town. I was sympathetic but somehow it’s got very embroiled.
I think it was his comment - trans women ARE women period that set me off.
I have a good counter arguement to everything they throw at me but still rely on the “transphobic, poor us” comments. It’s maddening.
Non can define what a woman is though....

motorcyclenumptiness · 24/10/2019 17:21

There've been a few ST threads about self id and the erosion of women's rights that have fallen foul of the extremely woke moderation policy so it's heartening to see this being discussed

littlecabbage · 24/10/2019 19:19

Apparently Dawn Orwick (who came second behind McKinnon) refused to link arms with McKinnon on the podium. Bronze medallist has unfortunately drunk the kool-aid.

That is correct. However it is important to note that linking arms isn't mandatory. The men didn't do it either, for one thing. Nobody's calling them names for it.

McK is just hyping it up for their own agenda.

littlecabbage · 24/10/2019 20:40

Good point BuzzShitbagBobbly. However, for absolute clarity, I was agreeing with Orwick's decision not to link arms. I assume it was a protest against McKinnon's "win", but like you say, McKinnon can't say for sure, and either way, has no valid reason to criticise Orwick.

Yes! Absolutely correct!

VirtualHamster · 24/10/2019 22:01

The current thread is a refreshing change from when these subjects have been discussed on there in the past - tide turning?

MrGHardy · 24/10/2019 22:58

Given that largely men make the IOC rules, we desperately need to speak up.

MrGHardy · 24/10/2019 23:03

Just look at the winner's photo in the Mirror article and look at the hips...McKinnon is just a bully reveling in the fact that he has found a way to do it and be praised for it.

FannyCann · 24/10/2019 23:10

The expressions on the other women's faces (apart from kook aid bronze). Ranging from bad smell to outright hostility!

Motorcyclist that identifies as bicyclist sets world cycling record Grin from a website that must be akin to the onion.

thenightsky · 26/10/2019 10:18

MonsteraCheeseplant I saw that on a friend's FB feed this morning and was going to re-post on here. Grin

Cyclingfan · 27/11/2019 13:45

For those that don’t follow cycling, Robert Millar is a legendary British cyclist that transitioned to Phillipa York after retirement. I find York’s comments on this subject deeply sexist and uneducated on the subject. They achieved so much a male cyclist that could only be have achieved because they were a man!

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 27/11/2019 13:47

@BuzzShitbagBobbly brilliant!! Obviously the entitled man spreading!

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 27/11/2019 13:50

@MonsteraCheeseplant that would be more hilarious if not worrying close to the truth!! Still gave me a chuckle Grin

Need to keep highlighting the absurdity to try and shed the light on the ridiculousness of the current situation in cycling and women's sport overall.

Oncewasblueandyellowtwo · 27/11/2019 14:15

There's a lot to think about from that article...
In my case, I’m a menopausal 60 year old, and I have the same level of strength as a gran
Hmm

Nor does she believe that there is such a thing as a level playing field in the first place.

Why are sports sex seregated in the first place?

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 27/11/2019 14:22

York also spoke about her experience of realising she was transgender in the 1980s and how she had felt her career as a cyclist was “way too complicated” to start transitioning while still competing.

The "complication" was that they realised they wouldn't make so much money and win so many medals or be so high profile in the women's races. Its not vastly different today.

Cyclingfan · 27/11/2019 14:24

The menopausal 60 year old bit made me throw my phone across the room. Like I said, I used have a lot of respect for York, but that comment makes them sound delusional.

CranberriesChoccy · 27/11/2019 19:09

I always read McKinnon's comments in South Park's Mr Garrison's voice.
