" This is the moment we reached peak gender insanity" Celia Walden

Headline from Celia Walden's column in today"s DT.

www.telegraph.co.uk/women/life/week-reached-peak-gender-insanity/

Article, prompted by her experience in a bar on Saturday night, sums up all the insanity from Flora, to Always, McKinnon, to "females" accused of rape, to gender neutral loos in bars full of drunks.

Behind paywall but on page 22 of print edition.

Final paragraphs:

"This is about fragile young girls, still struggling to come to terms with their own changing bodies, being forced into preposterous intimacy with boys. It's about transgender athletes like Rachel McKinnon - who won the World Masters Track Cycling Championships on Sunday for the second year running - killing women's sports.

"It's about the series of future assaults and intimidation that will have to happen before someone works out that having a load of of drunk men and women using the same toilets in bars and clubs was Not a Smart Move. It's about rapists being indulged and coddled by the police while their victims are effectively mocked.

"And it's about knowing when we've reached peak gender insanity. Please God, let this be it."

Great article that leaves me wondering how the hell TRAs - a subset of a subset of 0.6% of the population can have brought organisations, police, Governments, councils to a point where this can happen. I am a firm believer usually in the cock-up theory of history rather than conspiracy.....but as I say, you have to wonder....

The only comfort is that, at last, the oxygen of publicity is beginning to produce a backlash against this madness.

This is very good. Worth registering with the Telegraph to read. It also links to an equally good article by Julie Bindel in the Sunday Telegraph.

The Telegraph was initially slow to pick up the topic, but the have had some good articles recently. Peak trans? The more newspapers who start looking at the impact of the gender cult on women and children, the better.

BiologyIsReal · 22/10/2019 11:38

I have become a fan of the DT these last two or three years - not only because of its stance on transgenderism, but also because of its support for women in business and the great coverage given to female sport.

It is doing a lot of the things that you might have expected the Guardian to do as a "progressive" paper. I am surprised that this has not been recognised more by those who would dismiss it just because of its generally conservative leaning stance.

Just placemarking for later

BarbaraStrozzi · 22/10/2019 11:45

I've got a Telegraph sub too Biology (taken out as a conscious "step outside my bubble" strategy when Trump got elected) and I agree totally re sport and business (incidentally their business and economics coverage is first rate). Both Julie Bindel and Joan Smith write for them.

It's not the Boris/Farage fan-fest it's often made out to be either - yes the editorial line is pro Brexit and the articles skew about 3/4 that way, but several of their prominent columnists are Remainers.

NewNameGuy · 22/10/2019 11:49

I think I'll swap my Times sub to DT.

BarbaraStrozzi its GOOD that they don't offer only 1 view!

Matereality · 22/10/2019 11:59

I googled and was able to read the whole article without registering. It's really good, very clear and persuasive.

The Graun should be ashamed of itself for their promotion of genderism and contribution to this mess.

ArnoldWhatshisknickers · 22/10/2019 12:00

It's a good article. Most papers have some topics they're good on and others not so much. I always find it odd when grown adults can't see this.

Won't be subscribing though, I usually read the Scotsman, Herald and National and dip into the New York Times, Financial Times, Le Monde...I don't have hours in the day for the Times and Telegraph as well.

AncientLights · 22/10/2019 12:08

Celia Walden is married to Piers Morgan. Interesting?

thatdamnwoman · 22/10/2019 12:12

I worked in the media until the mid-noughties. It was always said that most of the staff at the Telegraph were far more left of centre than one might imagine and certainly its standards – fact-checking, sub-editing – were considered the highest in the industry.

I've been a Guardian reader all my life but can't bear it now: it's lost its way and and its authority, and it's so padded with opinion pieces that it's an over-stuffed, cacophonous mess. Its betrayal of women has been the last straw.

I would never have imagined a time would come when I would buy the Telegraph or the Times but they seem to me to be the only intelligent choice for GC, thinking, women these days.

Needmoresleep · 22/10/2019 12:12

I had assumed thatbeing married to Celia and having a daughter was what motivated Piers to stick his head above the parapet. Men with daughters seem more likely to get it.

GiantKitten · 22/10/2019 12:12

AncientLights I was just going to say that!

It is a very interesting connection.

(Also, they have a daughter)

They also have the transgender column (sorry can’t remember name) in the Saturday magazine, so can’t be accused of being anti-trans. though probably helps more people to see the drivel/word salad for what it is

SingingLily · 22/10/2019 13:09

The Wrong Trousers.

I think that's quite deliberate, in much the same way that the Daily Mail reports carefully on such issues but lets the article's main photo say the thousand words instead.

ARoombaOfOnesOwn · 22/10/2019 13:20

Yes, quite clever really.

zebrasdontwearbras · 22/10/2019 13:38

This video (posted on this thread www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/3719688-Renee-Gerlich-in-neoliberalism-rape-culture-and-the-rise-of-transgenderism ) is excellent, and explains it all in all it's horrifying awfulness.

Interesting to note the comparisons to the Guardian - as the Guardian has been heavily critical of neoliberalism ( for example: www.theguardian.com/news/2017/aug/18/neoliberalism-the-idea-that-changed-the-world ) and yet has failed, as yet, to make the links between neoliberalism and transgender ideology.

RoyalCorgi · 22/10/2019 14:06

Yes, I reckon David Thomas must have peak-transed nearly as many people as Rachel McKinnon.

Goosefoot · 22/10/2019 14:28

There's been an article with comments in The Guardian today about services that try and burst people's media bubbles by giving them broader reading.

It's been interesting reading the comments, many really think that the "other" papers include mainly crackpot views.

I've been trying to suggest to my mother that she needs to be more open-minded in her media. She won't read the National Post which here in Canada is the right news publication, but the fact is that it has a few very good columnists. Even if you disagree with them they are far and above the quality of journalism coming out of the CBC, most of the articles there seem to be written by some sort of algorithm.

I haven't figured out at all how to convince people though, it's one of those things you don't see, and then once you do, it's everywhere.

ScrimshawTheSecond · 22/10/2019 17:08

I try to make a point of checking a news story from various different sources that offer a goodwide range of different views.
