“Support” ?

ErrolTheDragon · 22/10/2019 09:27

"Vilification"? Where?Confused

CharlieParley · 22/10/2019 09:52

A lot of conjecture in those six words. Nimco didn't even say who had objected to her use of the word women!

truthisarevolutionaryact · 22/10/2019 10:09

It's only ever about one group - and that's not women.

SirVixofVixHall · 22/10/2019 10:12

Why is it up to women to give support to a group pf people wholly unconnected to them ? Fine to support whatever cause one wants, obv, but why is it seen as an obligation ?

ArnoldWhatshisknickers · 22/10/2019 10:14

why is it seen as an obligation ?

Because we're supposed to be everyone's mum. Even grown men's.

Ali1cedowntherabbithole · 22/10/2019 10:17

Arnold that's very true.

Birdsfoottrefoil · 22/10/2019 10:24

What was the context? I can’t see the link between the tweets.

ErrolTheDragon · 22/10/2019 10:24

Presumably Featherstone knows what Ali campaigns about and got her OBE for? Has Featherstone thought why the use of the word 'woman' matters in such work? Or does she really not care about supporting those women and girls?

zebrasdontwearbras · 22/10/2019 10:28

I am really becoming very tired of being told off for the "vilification" of transwomen by women who call other women "terfs".

This is a woman who told us she didn't want our vote unless we support gender neutral toilets ffs - how, on any planet, is taking away provisions for women a feminist thing to do??

Not just pictures of the cock - same price for ‘action’ shots. Bargain. Not fetish, not at all. Ughhhh.

BreakWindandFire · 22/10/2019 12:25

Featherstone and Ali are long-term friends. Ali campaigned hard for Featherstone in the 2015 election, which Featherstone lost. Ali then stood against Catherine West, the woman who beat Featherstone in the 2017 election.

Featherstone is not so civil on twitter to women who aren't her mates.

stumbledin · 22/10/2019 14:40

Thanks to donquixotedelamancha for including a link. It make it much easer to follow what the OP is asking for comment on!

It would be good in posters stopped using screen shots, because not only are some of the formats not useable on all computer systems, but screen shots discriminate against anyone with a visual impairment.

Thats why pictures on web sites have what is called an alt tag.

Thanks!

ErrolTheDragon · 22/10/2019 14:55

In the case of Twitter - not necessarily this instance, but other cases - screenshots are often used because tweets get deleted so regularly. Probably good practice would be to include a link as well?

stumbledin · 22/10/2019 15:01

ErrolTheDragon - you are right and recommendation is in line with WWW disability guidelines!

(Y) = thumbs up / like - we need one for mumsnetters!

ilovemushroomsoup · 22/10/2019 15:02

I hate to be nitpicky but could we please try to spell her name correctly - it's right there in the tweet you posted and as a woman with a "foreign" name, it is SO annoying when people are too lazy to get it right!

ErrolTheDragon · 22/10/2019 15:09

Her wiki page has both spellings, and her name/handle also so I'd have assumed she's ok with either ?

Ohwhatatangledwebweweave · 22/10/2019 15:13

Baroness Featherstone Aug 2018:

* I came to speak in this debate today because I am an uber-feminist. There are some feminists who have brought shame, I think, to the name of feminist by the level of hatred and vitriol that they have levelled at trans women. That is why I am standing here today. How little they understand this community. They should be welcoming and understanding to these new women. They should have humanity, kindness and inclusiveness in their souls. This fanatical assault is not feminism, it is false protectionism—mistaken protectionism. So to the faux feminists I say: regain your humanity and understanding. To be trans is challenging enough—with the sort of challenges that you have to go through to work in a world that has traditionally been totally binary and is now coming to grips with the fact that perhaps it is not the way we all thought it was. The attempted suicide rate should be indication enough that this is a community that needs our love and support. I am glad that we are going to try to do better.*

'Uber-feminist'. Yeah that doesn't sound at all like totalitarianism Confused

What a wally Grin

RoyalCorgi · 22/10/2019 16:12

Ah, the attempted suicide rate rears its ugly head again. Some myths will never die, will they?

She explicitly spells it Nimco and Nimko in her twitter bio and handle respectively. I don't think anyone has spelled it wrong (If it's me, apologies).
