so that we have proper protection for transgender people and also ensure that we protect our single-sex spaces.
That is absolutely something I would get behind.
I am absolutely in favour of creating more spaces, additional provision, ensuring that no one ever has to be in a space where they feel vulnerable, unsafe, where their privacy and dignity is at risk. I'm absolutely in favour of trans people not having to use facilities for a sex they don't feel comfortable being a part of, and having their choice and feelings recognised. There just has to be maintenance of single sex spaces for women in addition, and the courage to put down a line that no one changes sex, and single sex provision is not something that can be identified into in all situations as this harms women and girls.
This will always be the sticking point, it's going to be a very difficult boundary to put down and hold to now. Up to this point it's been the case of 'we will maintain single sex spaces BUT people can be any sex they like' in an attempt to sound like they're not throwing women under the bus. I hope Liz Truss means what it sounds like she means.
