'It seems far-fetched that the mere hiring of a Massey University venue by a feminist organisation could cause so much indignation and rage, but these are not typical times.'

'“If your feminism isn’t intersectional, it isn’t feminism.”

Don’t you just love it when men tell women what feminism actually is? I find it adorable. Like a possum in my pear tree. So endearing.'

When did an open discussion by women about women’s rights become so threatening?

Actually, more to the point, when didn’t it?

This is the crux of the matter, isn't it? All this shouting down by men, being told to shut up and be a good girl.. been there, done that, got the t-shirt ... ummm .... when I was 10.

Heard it so many times and they think they're saying something new!!

DuMondeB · 16/10/2019 09:26

If your intersectionality doesn’t center female people, it isn’t feminism.

I am so bloody angry at the craven decision by Massey University to not allow Feminism 2020 to take place on their Wellington campus. I emailed the University earlier this month regarding the misleading statements it made about the event, as did many others, but to no avail it seems.

Last time I looked universities were required to respect and uphold the quaint, old-fashioned tenet of free speech too. Exactly Rachel.

As a graduate of Massey (some decades ago admittedly) I feel very disheartened at its failure to adhere to the notion of civil and open debate. Cowards.

Saw this thread, thought "who's Rachel Stewart?", and googling came up with this:

It's long but well worth reading. That's what I call an original.

For sure.

So Speak Up For Women, and Meghan Murphy has been cancelled by Massey University.

I too am beyond wild.

We're fucked.

2BthatUnnoticed · 16/10/2019 13:19

Holy shit! They gave in to the pressure and cancelled the venue hire?? Their initial obsequious statement saying how awful feminists are wasn’t enough?

Craven middle class cowards. Throwing working class women and children under the bus. Again.

2BthatUnnoticed · 16/10/2019 13:28

What a joke.

Fraggling · 16/10/2019 13:31

Well this is a standard pattern.

Women are going to get really angry really soon.

Fraggling · 16/10/2019 13:31

I mean in larger numbers.

I hope, anyway.

2BthatUnnoticed · 16/10/2019 13:37

Here’s how it’s done. Simple.

I bet the “experts” Massey consulted was the equivalent of Stonewall.

Massey's are citing health and safety!! Delicate ears will get damaged hearing strong women speak!!!

Illyria47 · 16/10/2019 21:49

FFS Everything Otepoti said.

Kiwiwiwiwi · 17/10/2019 03:24

The thing is,SUFW purposefully avoid anything 'radical'. Just facts.
Yet still they've been silenced. By a university no less.

Tis grim.

From Redline

Brilliant.

Illyria47 · 18/10/2019 01:10

Hilarious article by the Council for Disobedient Women. Punctures the absurd argument put forward by Massey University for cancelling the event.

OtepotiLilliane42 · 18/10/2019 02:43

The latest from Speak Up for Women on the cancellation of the venue at Massey University for Feminism 2020. Interviews with Ani O'Brien, Rachel Stewart and a conservative NZ politician. Magic Radio has covered SUFW in the past, and given them a good hearing.

Kiwiwiwiwi · 18/10/2019 03:08

The bizarre thing is that the event was going to be held out of term, in the evening. So nobody would have even been in the vicinity of these bad and dangerous women's thoughts.

This shit has got to self implode at some stage.

OtepotiLilliane42 · 18/10/2019 23:23

This just arrived in my email from Speak Up for women. Kerry is right when she says that Radio New Zealand is totally biased on the transgender debate. A few months ago I was staggered to hear a leading National radio journalist give a totally uncritical interview to the authors of a new report on transgender health. She didn't challenge the language used in the report (sex assigned at birth' etc) or the use of puberty blockers on young children, accepting the assurance that it was all reversible, with no harm done. It was a totally unprofessional performance and I wish now that that I had written to RNZ saying just that.

At least Magic Radio here has given Ani O'Brien and Rachel Stewart a voice when our state run broadcaster refuses too.
