This is so very useful to take into school and show my own SLT, thanks.

Another piece of sterling work - well done & thanks. Flowers

Fantastic! Thanks OP

Michelleoftheresistance · 14/10/2019 13:03

Excellent document, well explained, thank you. I particularly like the guidance that there are solutions that meet all needs.

The only thing that I thought of while reading that may be useful to you: some agencies when doing an EQIA for a transgender based policy change have misinterpreted the guidance to look at potential impact on all protected characteristics as meaning they need to look at only the needs of transgendered people with those additional characteristics, instead of considering the needs of all service users with any one of those characteristics, whether transgendered or not.

I'm not sure of the source of this misunderstanding on how to do an EQIA, but this is a piece of misinformation that schools and many other agencies would definitely benefit from clearer guidance about.

truthisarevolutionaryact · 14/10/2019 13:04

Outstanding! Let's get this into every school in the UK.

Well done to the authors. Flowers

Seems strange that an organisation calling itself 'safe school alliance' has so little to say about wider issues of safety.

If this is in relation to Equality and Diversity policies, surly it should be more than a single issue document?

I also have concerns about describing equality as a 'fad'.

I'm all for discussing issues of safety in school and equality and diversity but feel this is a myopic look at a controversial issue.

As someone who has worked in education, this document has more red flags to than the issue is it proporting to be in reference to.

truthisarevolutionaryact · 14/10/2019 15:47

What were you thinking Safe Schools Alliance should branch out and look at? Hypatia415 ? (and welcome to Mumsnet btw)

Cycling safety?
Building regs and safety?
Food hygiene & safety?
Safety in swimming lessons? Gymnastics lessons and safety?
Stranger danger?
Online safety?
Or what?

Personally I appreciate the focussed look at an area where groups of adults unqualified in education, child psychology, child and adolescent development and safeguarding have been given unparalleled access to children and schools to promote their preferred ideology in ways that often undermine national safeguarding guidelines as described in these very good documents.

OldCrone · 14/10/2019 15:49

An excellent and comprehensive document.

some agencies when doing an EQIA for a transgender based policy change have misinterpreted the guidance to look at potential impact on all protected characteristics as meaning they need to look at only the needs of transgendered people with those additional characteristics

Michelle do you have examples of EQIAs where this has been done?

DerryWitch · 14/10/2019 16:31

@Michelleoftheresistance That's a misunderstanding of "intersectionality" - which is an important concept but this is what happens when it is deployed by enthusiastic amateurs!

VickyEadieofThigh · 14/10/2019 16:57

Has the thread been deleted? I'm not getting access.

VickyEadieofThigh · 14/10/2019 17:00

In case it has, here's the link to their resource:

Michelleoftheresistance · 14/10/2019 17:39

OldCrone take a look at FOIrequsters's Wesh Govt threads, I'm sure there are examples there as people have been chasing EQIAs.

GColdtimer · 14/10/2019 21:34

@Hypatia415 welcome to MN.

It would be helpful if you could point out the red flags in our document. We are open to improving our resources.

If you look at our website you will see the areas we are focussed on. We don’t have the capacity to further our reach right now but we appreciate your input.

Yes, this.

NeurotrashWarrior · 15/10/2019 06:21

I work in education and I can't see any red flags Hypatia415.

This fills a number of blind spots I've been looking for when sitting through the very many safeguarding sessions we have these days in education.

HandsOffMyRights · 15/10/2019 07:04

Superb! Will share this.

GColdtimer · 15/10/2019 09:23

Thanks @NeurotrashWarrior. Really good to hear. Please share as far and wide as you can!
