Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

Someone I have never heard of has announced they are transgender and it's really upset the community

This is trending on Twitter.

A youtuber called Trisha Paytas (female), who is very feminine has announced they are trans but more like a drag queen. So, they feel like a man but like they are like a man dressing as a woman but they are female Confused, as far as I can tell because I don't have the time or the energy to watch their announcement video.

This gender identity thing is moving to extremes very quickly at the moment.

Someone commented :

“i’m trans because i’ve always loved having short hair” like what...? um anyway...

Isn't that what trans is? Like stereotypes etc because it isn't Biology apparently hhhmm

Makes perfect sense according to the ideology.

Apparently none of it is stereotypes. So her identifying as a man is a completely normal inner feeling. Her identifying as a man who likes to dress as a woman, is also completely normal. Lots of men like to dress as women.

In fact right now, I'm exactly the same. I'm a woman, identifying as a man, identifying as a woman. As any fule can tell.

She identifies as a gay man (this week). She is a man because she only puts full-on makeup on when she wants to 'put on a show', like drag queens do. Good lord. She's confused. Fallen victim to her own stereotypes.
I do sympathise with her though, I can see that she's struggling with the 'female experience', where women struggle so much- thanks to men- that she's trying to identify out of being a woman rather than aligning herself with feminism and realising there is so much more to being a woman than dressing up as a male's interpretation of one. What a mess.

What a lovely guy. Do haddock and LOJ know he is now available for relationship purposes? I do hope so.

My favourite of this identity flipping is the male opera singer who has transitioned to being a transwoman and now breaks barriers as a woman getting and performing male operatic roles.

In other words, a male opera singer performing male roles.

If that's not brave and stunning I don't know what is.

There's no discernible difference between 'T' and someone like Danielle Muscato other than we are all clearly expected to take individuals with a Y chromosome a lot more seriously. No change there really.

stillathing · 08/10/2019 12:39

Wasn't there a thing where straight women wrote/read a lot of gay fan fiction on the internet? The attraction being, for a hetero female, all of the sexy man stuff without the misogyny. A respite from women being depicted as objects for male consumption, rarely allowed to have their own agency or desires.

Whilst being hetero is undoubtedly still more acceptable in society, for women there is something of a paradox in being attracted to members of the class which oppresses us.

TP is a well known wind up merchant. I can see why TRAs are angry but also acceptance without exception and all that.

Therarestone · 08/10/2019 12:55

'someone I don't know' doesn't affect you in any way.... Point of thread?

BernardBlacksWineIceLolly · 08/10/2019 13:00

There’s this thing called ‘chatting’ Theresa

Some people like to do it on chat sites

Does that help?

Doyoumind · 08/10/2019 13:32

What a weird comment Therarestone. I haven't heard of them but they have 4 million subscribers and they have pissed off the trans community by making a statement which questions the ideology. That's the point of the thread. It's fascinating and revealing. Does it therefore meet your criteria for discussion?

CHAT CHAT CHAT hooray!

I thought the first bit of their video (pronoun check) was interesting actually. That IS what many teenage girls feel.

I think really they are talking about gender. It is all bollocks after all! Anyone gender free (like many of us) are trans by the stonewall definition.

I think the transphobia shown against them is horrific.

neonglow · 08/10/2019 13:44

But ‘if somebody says they are trans then they are trans’ and gender identity has nothing to do with gender stereotypes apparently- women can have beards, men can be feminine and so on. So what are they getting angry about? Surely they have to accept that TP is transgender as there is no criteria beyond saying you identify one way or another.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 08/10/2019 15:29

Huh? Is it time of this one again?
