Solution to the toilet problem?

I went to a festival a couple of weeks ago and I think they may have cracked it: a bank of female portaloos, a bank of unisex portaloos and behind them, a big urinal area. I stuck to the female ones to start but as the night wore on the lines got longer so I ventured into a unisex one and it was ok. Probably because most of the persons most likely to piss all over the seat/floor were skipping the lines and going straight to the urinal area. Could this not be replicated in indoor loos as well, the option of female, unisex and urinals? And then we could all be happy? Couldn't we?

Yes, but it’s not what THEY want.

Onatreebyariver · 04/10/2019 14:37

Yes but many people with a penis identify as female so why would this deter them?

We already have female loos. The problem isn't that they don't exist - the problem is men want to use them.

These aren't the type of men who are sensitive to women's feelings.

andyoldlabour · 04/10/2019 14:39

"Yes, but it’s not what THEY want."

I don't think society will ever be able to satisfy them. Narcissism demands that unconditional acceptance is the only answer, no matter how vile their behaviour.

WrathofSWhlttleKlop · 04/10/2019 14:48

They don't want to use the mens loos, even though they are biologically men.

They don't want to use the unisex loos, even though they are biologically men.

They want to use the female loos, even though they are biologically men.

Aww women, why don't you just be kind?

nauticant · 04/10/2019 14:49

The "toilet problem" is that a subset of males, having tendencies that mean that women are understandably worried to be anywhere near them, are seeking to be given access to women in situations where the women are particularly vulnerable.

If the problem is formulated in this way, then the solution of keeping these men (who cannot readily be distinguished from men in general) away from women in general, becomes clear.

thisonehasalittlecar · 04/10/2019 14:49

So, if all the trans folk want is access to the women's loos, why are they all being ripped out everywhere and made unisex?

OP posts:
nauticant · 04/10/2019 14:54

The trans folk are a Trojan horse for the narcissistic fetishists to be given access to women. Toilets are simply a proxy to achieve that end.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 04/10/2019 14:54

Because we women will then be forced to share a hitherto women's space with them.

If they can't have it they will take it away! And everyone will be told they are fabulous!

Datun · 04/10/2019 15:01

So, if all the trans folk want is access to the women's loos, why are they all being ripped out everywhere and made unisex?

Well that's a good question.

I think it's to appear progressive, whilst avoiding the problem of transwomen in female toilets altogether.

When you're faced with the problem of men in women's toilets, some of whom you think might just be eligible, but some are obvious perverts, or short skirted cross dressers, and the same problem with the women identifying as men, who look exactly like women. What do you do? Especially when people start waving the equality act at you.

Avoid it altogether.

Fuck 'em all, but look uber progressive.

DoctorAllcome · 04/10/2019 15:06

Just have to get rid of communal toilets with rows of stalls. Build a series of individual unisex rooms each with own toilet, sink and locking floor to ceiling door.

Aposterhasnoname · 04/10/2019 15:06

Because they want to be seen as women at all costs. If there is a choice between women’s loos and unisex, they’ll choose the women’s box they’re ladeees, going into the unisex ones suggest they may not be women. If however the only option is unisex then that’s fine, as all women will be using them there’s no implication that they are any different.

Jaxhog · 04/10/2019 15:09

So, if all the trans folk want is access to the women's loos, why are they all being ripped out everywhere and made unisex?

I wonder at this too. I'd rather have the odd transwoman using the ladies, than have to share with ALL biological men.

I know this topic's been done to death on here and there are other threads running on it but my head is boiling with it. Can someone correct me if any of the following are wrong?

  1. Legally, there isn't any bar on men entering women's toilets
  2. There has been no change to the law recently
  3. Trans people don't want unisex toilets because that makes them feel less womanly
  4. Perverts don't want unisex toilets bc less opportunity for perving
  5. Women don't want unisex toilets bc the existing women's toilet situation is fine, thanks, except never enough of them, and also (see 1.)
  6. Again, there has been no change in law about toilets
  7. Everywhere is putting in unisex toilets

No 4 is wrong. More sexual assaults are recorded in unisex toilets and changing rooms. So many perverts like them.

nauticant · 04/10/2019 15:58

2. There has been no change to the law recently

This only tells half the story. There has been a considerable erosion of women's spaces without the law having to be changed. All it took was for there to be proposals of changes in the law together with massive misrepresentation of where the law currently stands and institutions being so afraid of social media backlashes they'll do whatever it takes to look compliant to the wishes of the most aggressive.

ChattyLion · 04/10/2019 16:21

I don’t think this solves the need for validation problem

Yes, apart from number four, I think that's right.

There is no law that says someone can't use the toilets of the opposite sex. There is just protocol.

TRAs have done a really good job convincing service providers to change their protocol.

Such a good job, that now any bloke can use a woman's toilet with impunity. Because everyone is terrified of offending someone in case they are trans.

The public don't actually like it, but people are frightened. Therefore we need to change the perception that trans people trump the general rights of everybody else.

They don't.

KatvonHostileExtremist · 04/10/2019 17:20

Don't go trying to talk sense op!

Urinals for the men. Toilets for the women. Unisex for men who need a poo, women who aren't bothered, and those who feel they need it.

Oh no. Too sensible. Not enough woke

AnyOldPrion · 04/10/2019 17:49

Puts paid to the myth that men who say they are women are scared of male violence doesn’t it?

All they want is for women to have the same as them and they will achieve that goal whatever the cost to women.

It's very dispiriting that the actual upshot is that all these institutions are installing unisex toilets, which are not a legal requirement, and which no one wants except the perves so they can do more perving.

I didn't know that sexual assaults were more common in mixed sex spaces, despite long time lurking here.

The festival I went to this summer had men's and women's urinals (you have to squat and if you're like me your knees give out and you accidentally over balance and there is almost a wee related pile up) and all unisex compost cubicles. fancy

Depressingly it opened up it's women's area and activities to those who identify as women too. Sad

How could I have been so deluded as to think that this issue could be sorted with a bit of common sense? Hmm

Common sense???

That left the tent building a long time ago!
