Talking about trans hospital policy

There is a barrister saying 'how would anyone know you're not a woman?' to Nick Ferrari. Does he really think that people can't tell the difference between men and women? Confused

I can’t watch, but GO NIC!

Stupid lawyer. These anti-woman activists are so blatant. Did the interviewer challenge him, or are they, as usual, pretending that sex isn’t generally obvious.

Cuntysnark · 04/10/2019 09:21

Just missed it-caught nick Ferrari saying he could decide to be a woman on a Friday and be in the hospital bed next to your daughter. Hope that wakes people up. I imagine Nic Williams was fab

HumberElla · 04/10/2019 09:28

So this morning we’ve had hospital policy and old Vic toilets issues broadcasted.

It’s getting out there!

Birdsfoottrefoil · 04/10/2019 09:43

How would anyone know your not a women

Do they seriously think that not only biological difference obvious but also rather critical in a medical setting?

Grin having seen Nick Ferrari that's quite a stretch. It just serves to point out why there is a problem with making "woman" a meaningless term that any man could potentially adopt. I'm sure a few lightbulbs went on then. Own goal.

Ereshkigal · 04/10/2019 09:45

Who was the barrister? Anyone catch the name?

OrchidInTheSun · 04/10/2019 11:03

Jonathan Cooper from Doughty Street Chambers. He's a human rights lawyer. What a shame he doesn't seem to care about the human rights of women and girls

What an absolutely patronising dickhead that barrister was. Though I would pay good money to see Nick Ferrari actually put a frock on and test this guidance out.

Ereshkigal · 04/10/2019 11:47

Thanks Orchid.

Antibles · 04/10/2019 13:42

Dr Nic was great. Pointed out the inconsistency in trumpeting single sex wards for dignity but then allowing them to be mixed sex. Nick Ferrari was onside.

The barrister was ridiculous. Apparently none of us would notice??

Antibles · 04/10/2019 14:59

Oh and Harriet from Kent ringing in later on the programme was brilliant.

She pointed out the anxiety caused to women who have suffered rape or assault. Also the Stonewall definition of trans being so broad now (to counter a man who rang in saying transpeople were being confused with cross dressers) and that the Equality Act 2010 allows for precisely these sorts of single-sex exemptions.

That male caller had a pre-op trans-son ('identifies as male'). He was arguing the child should be on a male ward.

andyoldlabour · 04/10/2019 15:27

"Jonathan Cooper from Doughty Street Chambers. He's a human rights lawyer. What a shame he doesn't seem to care about the human rights of women and girls"

There is probably a lot of money to be made from the new ideology, and we shouldn't forget that Barristers can charge what they like.

Ereshkigal · 04/10/2019 15:31

Vulnerable women and girls with the sort of comorbid mental health issues that frequently accompany gender dysphoria should absolutely not be put on male hospital wards.

zanahoria · 04/10/2019 15:56

"Human Rights Lawyer" does not necessarily mean the lawyer is pro human rights, all cases need two parties, he maybe against them or just earning a buck.

AncientLights · 04/10/2019 17:00

Who does that barrister think he's kidding - Nick Ferrari in a frilly nightgown and wig would be indistinguishable from a woman? Has he no eyes or ears? He must think women are stupid or devoid of any sense of self-preservation.

Did anyone else see the post by the nurse I think it was, who said they'd had 4 TW on their ward in 18 months and all 4 had had to be removed due to masturbating in the middle of the ward, sexually touching another sleeping patient etc. Why should any of us have to deal with this?

The Shetland TW has a lot of learning to do.

Whatisthisfuckery · 04/10/2019 18:02

It was sure hard telling which one of the callers was male, I honestly couldn’t tell at all. And I’m sure Nick would make a brave and stunning, and perfectly passing woman.

Even with the wool pulled over our eyes we can still tell who’s male.

TinaBarrow · 04/10/2019 19:37

Dr Nic was brilliant as usual. Nick Ferrari very with it too. That guy who called in was 71 & waiting for gender reassignment surgery. Goddess help us.

ahagwearsapointybonnet · 04/10/2019 20:12

I thought Doughty St rang a bell so googled it and their website also lists Sarah Vine, the barrister who's recently been tweeting some very sensible GC comments. Amal Clooney is also listed. I very much wonder what they think of him!

OrchidInTheSun · 04/10/2019 21:13

I wonder what it's like working with a man who believes he can come into work tomorrow wearing a blouse and saying his name is Joanne and that his colleagues would literally not be able to recognise him as Jonathan.

Must be super tricky being a barrister with that level of inability to distinguish between different human beings.

OP posts:
Ereshkigal · 04/10/2019 22:39

Indeed, I was listening to it with mounting incredulity. It's not often you hear a barrister make an argument that bad.

Ereshkigal · 04/10/2019 22:40

And I don't mean bad=immoral, though that too. I mean bad=idiotic.

FannyCann · 04/10/2019 22:50

Nick Ferrari in a frilly nightgown and wig would be indistinguishable from a woman?

Why am I suddenly thinking about Little Red Riding Hood?
