Excuse me while I laugh myself bitterly into a stupor...

GOOD FOR LEEDS. That's so cool!

You know what they should do as the UK's first Women Friendly City? They could try and get gang rape made illegal in Leeds! That would be awesome. Real opportunity to lead the way in advancing women's rights here.

JFC

ErrolTheDragon · 30/09/2019 22:34

Is there any chance that this initiative is actually a women-driven pushback against all the problems in Leeds? I really hope it is (thats why I asked upthread if anyone knew anything about the organisation mentioned).

Leeds. Woman. Spins into oblivion.

Leeds City Council funds Basis Yorkshire to help women and girls exit prostitution and girls at risk of CSE avoid falling into prostitution. The council funding is hefty.

Fancy a look at Basis Yorkshire’s Etsy store?
Here you go:

I think they just got the words the wrong way round. It’s supposed to read ‘friendly women city’ in order to encourage females to be nice and accommodating to misogynistic men. Silly women, you really should understand what’s expected of you by now.

HumberElla · 30/09/2019 22:44

Bloody hell Average

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 30/09/2019 22:47

Well, that Etsy site certainly makes it clear how the city council would like people to view prostitution, doesn't it? Please ignore the raped and murdered women in the corner, we're planning to brainwash the ones who're still alive into feeling empowered.

In LCC you’ve got the three Garforth and Swillington Independents who are full on champions of the Nordic Model. Cllr Field is slightly off radar at the moment due to her cancer. Cllr Dobson signed off the managed zone as executive member but has been very public in acknowledging he was wrong after listening to radical feminists. Cllr McCormack also very involved. All supporters of women’s sex based rights. Cllr Dobson frequently supports WPUK and Julie Bindel on Twitter.
There are quite a few Tory councillors, one or two libdems and Morley Independents who are very opposed to the zone. No Labour councillors will say a word against the managed area or the wider context of why they adopt “sex work” as a mantra and a language tool which clearly states a moral position.

breast binder library - really? tell me more

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 30/09/2019 23:17

Aside - this is exactly why I've stopped using the term "sex work". It's a political attempt to reframe what's happening and distract attention away from the most dangerous bits to the bits the people using it think they can sell as harmless. If you use it you are giving those people exactly what they want.

Socrates11 · 30/09/2019 23:21

Is it just me or is that Etsy merch a really shit design. Don't get how glorifying the 'financial reward' aspect, as well as porny pics is positive for people trying to exit the industry.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 30/09/2019 23:24

If it was as great as that site makes it out to be why would so many women want to leave?

stumbledin · 01/10/2019 00:30

Its sad to see Leeds Women's Aid and Asha are part of this conglomorate.

I suspect that funded groups were told to form an alliance so that other funding money could be sought.

More and more funding is not aimed at local grass roots organisations. One of the ways they do this is to insist that the grant application has a turnover that is well beyond that of any local women's group.

It is basically a way for Leeds Council to say they attracted X amount of funding into the area.

Did anyone else let out a screechy laugh or was it just me? Decades of abuse and suddenly I'm fucking trendy

Not just you, although mine was strangled laugh crosses with disgusted snort - strange exclamation noise. Attractive.

*Some of the aims of the project would be to raise awareness in public of the rights of women and girls; to create an environment that facilitates the protection and promotion of the rights of women and girls^

So Leeds will be hosting lots of events pointing out women and girls are defined by our sex, as determined at conception and observed at birth. Providing compulsory single sex toilets, changing rooms, hospital wards, prisons. Encouraging single sex meetings and leisure space. Promoting women as a sex in politics and business.Closing down the prostitution zone with immediate effect. Increasing sentencing in all sexual assault and abuse cases. Providing more single sex shelters for women. Educating all children about their sex based rights.

I'm sure Leeds will be doing these things and many more I haven't thought of for women and girls as a sex class.

Good for Leeds.............Leeds? Hello, Leeds...............
