Article here by Christopher Dummitt, admitting his role in shoring up bad science around Trans issues. He says he wouldn't never have done it if he'd realised the harm it would cause in the real world.

What he mostly got wrong, and what he still gets wrong is not separating sex and gender.

He's gone straight from pomo to Steven Pinker. He puts a little disclaimer in his final paragraph - This confession should not be interpreted as arguing that gender is not, in many cases, socially constructed. But ... But it's an afterthought and throughout the article there are things he got right the first time which he now apparently disavows. He's thrown the baby out with the bathwater because he doesn't understand the difference between sex and gender. He thinks that 'in many cases' gender is a social construct but he also thinks that actually men and women are mostly naturally like that.

Neither the left nor the right are on our side and nor are lots of people who consider themselves politically homeless or who are interested in what has been called heterodox discourse, like this chap.

There are lots of us now who feel reasonably confident in our abilities to counter the arguments of TRAs, or at least where to find those arguments. We need to be just as confident in countering the arguments of the other sort of genderists - those who think that masculinity and femininity are as innate as chromosomes and genitals.

Because I don't think the TRAs are going to last much longer. What they espouse is so utterly batshit that people only have to learn what they're actually saying to oppose it. And the growth in the number of people who are learning what they're actually saying is exponential. And the majority of these people who are going HOLY FUCK THIS IS BATSHIT are not feminists and do not particularly care about (actual, material) female oppression. Lots of them think gender is mostly natural and don't consider it any sort of oppression.

We can't let this lot win either.

I don’t know why the other thread went pouf but I do think it’s completely ridiculous to come out with such total drivel and then back-pedal to say well actually it’s not really true, sorry chaps, reverse ferret. What an absolute fuckweasel.
