Man convicted for upskirting woman on London Underground

Apparently this is one of the first convictions of this kind. The perp was caught red handed by a cop.

Do you think this will put people off upskirting? I'd like to hope so but doubt it, as it's an easy crime to get away with, especially as many victims are unaware what has happened at the time; and I'd bet many of the creeps doing this would see it as a victimless crime. A voyeur who targeted a friend of mine certainly thought so and showed no remorse even when he was being set down and his career was in ruins). This guy just got unlucky because he did it in front of a an off duty cop who was on the ball.

The perpetrators may justify themselves by thinking that if the woman doesn't know, she's not harmed.

If that is their weaselly thought process, then they need strongly reminding that harm is done to all the women and girls who have to modify their behaviour to avoid being victimised. Girls who are told not to wear skirts, women who stop using gyms or public loos that they can no longer trust as safe spaces.

Hopefully the new specific offence will raise awareness of this crime and bystanders will now be alert to suspicious behaviour on the tube and think “could that person be upskirting”
Prior to this new “specific” offence coming in BTP have successfully prosecuted for Outraging Public Decency (sexual offences sadly pretty common particularly on the tube) and that is the offence used prior to this for “upskirting”

Good to have some progress with BTP & court taking it seriously. for the victim.
