Are single sex toilets transphobic?

Trans NHS Staff Network have tweeted this:

"We are concerned to hear an NHS organisation decided to have a "poll" on whether they should make their toilets at work trans inclusive. As the poll turned out narrowly against they have scaled back their plans.... since when did we decide Equality & minority rights by polling?"

mobile.twitter.com/transnhs?lang=en

They wouldn't give more details because that would risk someone being held accountable for trying to drop their organisation in the poop.

I sincerely doubt any NHS organisation is going to stop trans people using the toilet of the sex they identify as. So I'm guessing this poll was about converting all staff loos to unisex?

If that actually was the question the staff responded just as the general public have done in polls, in that the majority prefer single sex facilities.

You would hope that trans NHS staff wouldn't think single sex spaces are actually transphobic? That's worryingly irrational from people who have responsibility for patient care.

Does anyone know more about what specifically the staff were polled on?

Yes I am on a blocklist too. So I logged out in order to read it.

We really need an eye roll smiley!

Backintheclosit123 · 22/09/2019 18:17

Yup I'm blocked. Fucken blocklists, imagine the true number of voices being heard without them. This would all be over.

KatvonHostileExtremist · 22/09/2019 18:23

I'm sure one of the reasons they hate mumsnet so much is that you can't block.

So they want to see eight transpeople/nb in top NHS jobs.

But how do they know there aren't? If they pass as well as TRA say they do and they haven't been deadnamed or outed, then
Senior Transpeople could just be quietly getting on with their NHS jobs?

If on the diversity form they tick M or F cos TWAW and TMAM, there are going to be no statistics showing Trans people.

I just don't understand isn't this the future they want? Everybody is equal and everybody chooses their own sex,

AnneElliott · 22/09/2019 19:05

The Hone Office has some unisex loos op, but has other single sex ones as well. The women do not generally use the unisex ones as the men wee with the door open.

AnneElliott · 22/09/2019 19:08

Home Office even!

Trucker shits and pissing all over the seat? I mean, I'm not very feminine in the toilet and my pee doesn't seem to go in the same direction as most women's so I do have to wipe up a bit, plus my cycle affects my bowel so it can be a bit rank, and occasionally I have had comments when I'm in the toilet which is upsetting, but most men I know can roughly clean up after themselves. That just sounds like identifying as a skank.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 22/09/2019 19:16

Where are the eight? Busy trying to find a toilet that they haven't been explicitly granted permission to use so they can tweet about it, I assume.

Meanwhile, nobody except fetishists and uni students with blue hair wants unisex toilets. So why are organizations pandering to them?

@ArnoldWhatshisknickers
Wait, back up, how the hell are Goths transphobic? Have I missed something here? Ditto chocolate, what's chocolate done to deserve this? I have skin in this this game, being both a Goth and a chocoholic.

ArnoldWhatshisknickers · 23/09/2019 08:22

Here you go SapphireSeptember.

Transphobic chocolate

and a whole host of others, ordinary stuff

Frankly life, the universe and everything is transphobic so we may as well all embrace our inner transphobe and have done with it.

LiveInAHidingPlace · 23/09/2019 08:23

"The only thing that isn't transphobic these days is letting anyone trans do exactly as they like without question."

Fucking this.

KatvonHostileExtremist · 23/09/2019 08:47

Wings over Scotland list is incredible

I particularly like how both wanting to have sex with trans people and not wanting to have sex with trans people are transphobic rendering it impossible for anyone, anywhere to not be transphobic.

Meh, call me transphobic, I don't care what tedious bores think of me anyway. Life's too short.

RuffleCrow · 23/09/2019 08:59

A: Since the concept of utilitarianism developed?!

Of course it's not transphobic. Everyone has a sex, they can use the loos accordingly however masculine or feminine they feel.

SapphireSeptember · 23/09/2019 09:42

So the general gist is the Goth subculture is transphopic because women and men can wear whatever the hell they want and no one gives a shit? Really? All righty then. Looks like I'm transphopic! I wonder what TRAs make of John Maclean.

The chocolate thing just makes me despair. If you get your feelings hurt over some chocolate you need to find a hobby.

I'll look at the other link later, but that'll be fun.

I seem to remember a tv sketch show and there were some sniggering teens who saw double entendres in everything.

It would get more and more ridiculous until it was “she said loaf bread’! That’s sounds like.... oh you know...tee hee hee!”

It’s a bit like that.
