I find these women's stories so bloody sad. Mental ill health and abuse nearly always feature and yet the medics are quick to perform life changing surgery.

We need a “Detransition Never Happens” thread to link all these together.

zafferana · 22/09/2019 09:33

From what I can tell, the situation that led that woman to think that she was trans is pretty typical. In so many cases it seems that people who are convinced they're trans are actually ones who've suffered sexual abuse, have/had EDs, have SEN, have encountered homophobia and rejection when coming out as gay/lesbian, versus a much more positive reaction when they announce that, in fact, they believe they're trans.

Once they come out as trans and get involved with the trans community it becomes like an echo chamber - no dissenting views are allowed to enter their 'safe space' and so they never get to question the cascade of interventions that follows. It's impressive that the writer actually spoke to people she considered TERFs and listened to what they had to say.

NeurotrashWarrior · 22/09/2019 09:35

Oh gosh poor woman.

Sexism sexism sexism and a bucket of abusive misogyny.

AncientLights · 22/09/2019 09:47

Sad that she says her thread is annoyingly long - for whom? I'd like to read more of her story. Maybe she's doing that female thing of apologising for taking up too much space. Poor love.

So incredibly sad, and so illuminating that her doctor can suddenly ask critical thinking questions once she is detransitioning, when those questions should have been asked at the start.

Who on earth are the surgeons who are cutting off healthy breasts of women when they are late teens? Absolutely sickening.

SarahTancredi · 22/09/2019 10:20

The level of grooming she underwent is sickening.

Actively being told to avoid talking to people lest they be brainwashed..

Now if you were so sure of yourself and knew that you were right then why would you need to tell people not to talk to others? The facts would speak for themselves.

Yet another misfit who had been sexually assaulted and fell victim to sexism and stereotypes.

Why do they never prey on someone whos happy and healthy both physically and mentally? If they are all.so.right ...

Poor woman. Really really sad story

NeurotrashWarrior · 22/09/2019 10:25

Is she UK?

OrchidInTheSun · 22/09/2019 10:31

I don't know @NeurotrashWarrior

Thanks for highlighting this thread. I am going to pass it to the safeguarding lead at my school and ask if the really think unquestioning acceptance of girls saying they are boys is the right thing to do.

BadgertheBodger · 22/09/2019 12:09

I’m so sorry for her, and all the other girls like her. What a mess. I continue to be completely horrified that the medical profession allow this to happen, it’s outrageous. There are too many casualties.

Also fucking horrible that the advert running at the bottom of that heart wrenching thread was for a cosmetic surgery company Angry

NotMyFIrstTIme · 22/09/2019 13:29

NeurotrashWarrior

No, she's not in UK. In one post, she was asking to make contact with German de-transitioners.

I'd imagine that the endocrinologist she talks about in this thread is in denial that she is encouraging and enabling vulnerable young people to do serious harm to themselves.

NeurotrashWarrior · 22/09/2019 19:04

Thanks not.

I've just read another story here, terribly sad. She's trying to raise money for reconstruction surgery.

It kills me that these young women may never be able to have the choice to breastfeed thanks to misogynistic abusive crap. Not much different to breast ironing in my opinion; the root pressures are the same.

3mks · 22/09/2019 19:20

Also possible that the endocrinologist is trying to persuade them to stay with the meds due to the issues of prescribing to someone who wasn't actually trans.

Yeahnahyeah · 22/09/2019 19:53

The keeping up of the momentum around transitioning is such a common theme. One transman on YouTube spoke of feeling lost once they had had their phalloplasty, as there was nothing left to do. There was a look of fear in their eyes, truly. So sad.

fiveleftfeet · 22/09/2019 22:34

NotBadConsidering, great idea! I've started a “Detransition Never Happens” thread here:

Voice0fReason · 22/09/2019 22:43

There were so many red flags if anyone had been looking for them. But the trans way is not to look.
