Pleasantly surprised

I am in a Facebook group for those who work with children. A member has posted about a young child who is saying they are the opposite sex and likes to play with children of the opposite sex.

I waited for the usual 'mermaids/trans/affirmation/bigot parents' discourse as we used to get in times past but no....most responses are of the 'watch and wait' type of advice. Out of 30 responses only 2 suggest mermaids and tavistock. Some actually advise against getting Mermaids involved... There is also mention of autism, ROGD and in a lot of cases the children are actually gay.

When I saw the original Post I was filled with dread but quite quickly my feelings have changed.

If you are one of the fabulous women on that thread then I send you my love and 👏👏👏💐💐💐💐

In a few years, they’ll be mentioning it’s a risk indicator for Munchausen’s by proxy....

Excellent news thanks, OP. I think the message is getting through, even if politicians still have their fingers in their ears.

yulet · 21/09/2019 11:40

That is incredible. God I hope we make it through this bullshit.

Mumfun · 21/09/2019 12:05

Good news! Thanks for sharing!

cwg1 · 21/09/2019 12:13

Oh - wonderful!! That's just so cheering. I was so fed up with the Any Questions thread and the politicians chanting the mantra. I'm so glad that people are seeing the deeper issues and some common sense. Well done, women for all your tireless work and commitment!! Flowers Gin

youkiddingme · 21/09/2019 12:21

Hurray for actual thinking women.

Mner2019 · 21/09/2019 12:24

Awesome

teawamutu · 21/09/2019 12:26

That's fantastic. Thinking triumphs over wokery.

donquixotedelamancha · 21/09/2019 12:45

Worth mentioning it can also just he nothing. The reply (for example) 'playing with trucks doesn't make you a boy' should be the first port of call.

No need to worry or medicalise unless a kid is in distress. Young children saying I am a boy, girl, doctor, pony, attack helicopter etc is normal.

WhereYouLeftIt · 21/09/2019 15:16

This is heartening!

feelingverylazytoday · 21/09/2019 15:24

In my experience it can simply be because the child adores the opposite sex parent (or another family member) and wants to be as much like them as possible.

ChattyLion · 21/09/2019 15:40

That is great!

LumpySpacedPrincess · 21/09/2019 16:27

Let's hope the tide is turning..

The next thing we need is for teenagers to get fed up with this movement.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 21/09/2019 16:54

The tide is turning, friends. Let's keep going!

InTheShadowOfTheMushroomCloud · 21/09/2019 17:02

@donquixotedelamancha many were suggesting the 'girls can like cars and boys can like dolls' sort of chat. Which made me doubly chuffed

That's really good to hear! Thanks Op

Coyoacan · 21/09/2019 20:57

The return of common sense, at long last. Shame about the establishment. I too am waiting for teenagers to rebel en masse against the rubbish they are being taught in schools.

Goosefoot · 22/09/2019 21:15

Or Indiana Jones or some other person, real or fictional.

I was informed today that "Factitious disorder imposed on another", is the new diagnostic term for what we used to call Munchausen syndrome by proxy.

Orangepearl · 22/09/2019 22:30

Great news!

Useful
Will it be applied to any parents of certain trans children I wonder?

InTheShadowOfTheMushroomCloud · 23/09/2019 21:46

....and it didn't last

A person has now come on the thread ranting about some of the thoughtful answers....apparently they know nothing and shouldn't take any notice about what is being written about the Tavistock and Mermaids....she is a very very angry lady. How dare we say 'watch and wait'...I think she has links to the above....she is very very very angry!

I hope they are just making themselves look like the crazy they are. It will probably put people off.
