Oh Ffs, ABC! (Warning: Rant Ahead)

Watching the ABC (Australian Broadcasting Corporation) news last night and this little news story came on screen:

www.abc.net.au/news/2019-09-16/same-sex-couples-naturally-conceived-baby-dna-from-both-mums/11515214

Yes, it's our old friend "trans" again.

Now if they'd really been a "same sex couple", or the partner-with-the-penis had carried the child, that would have been a newsworthy story, but "heterosexual couple have PIV sex and nine months later a baby is born" is not really worth the airtime. Even if the father of the child decides to call themselves its mother and wear lipstick.

I found myself swearing at the TV and switching it off (shades of my father who used to make me cringe by doing that when I was a teenager.)

I always loved the ABC's investigative journalism, but when they decide to air this woke nonsense I feel like backing Murdoch in his push to have it privatised!

What a fucking bullshit story. And no one ever asks 'who's mum' a) because it's bloody obvious which one of them is female and b) if it weren't, it would be an incredibly rude question ( and quite homophobic).

They seem a bit thick tbh

Purpleartichoke · 16/09/2019 04:32

That headline would be a groundbreaking, and frankly terrifying, scientific achievement if it were true.

GlorianaCervixia · 16/09/2019 04:34

Love the picture caption. “Rebecca and Isabella’s son has DNA from both his mums”. Yes. Because one produces sperm and the other one produces eggs. Just like every other straight couple that produces a baby.

SD1978 · 16/09/2019 04:43

I can make a much more pithy headline. Man and woman conceive baby. You're welcome ABC.

Gingerkittykat · 16/09/2019 04:53

I wonder if the biological dad was happy to be recorded as such on the birth certificate?

OneEndedStick · 16/09/2019 05:39

WHAT!?!? You mean... unprotected hetero sex can result in pregnancy?????? Even if the bloke wears lipstick?

NotBadConsidering · 16/09/2019 05:51

So she had hyperemesis gravidarum and he thought that was the perfect time to start his own transition and make it all about him? Rebecca seems happy enough to be married to someone that selfish, so good luck to them. Be interesting to see if it lasts.

JoyceJeffries · 16/09/2019 06:12

Poor Rebecca

OrchidInTheSun · 16/09/2019 06:17

This person wins the knot head narcissism award during their wife's pregnancy. Isabella seems quite tame in comparison : www.thestranger.com/queer-issue-2017/2017/06/21/25225867/my-first-time-breastfeeding-my-daughter

OrchidInTheSun · 16/09/2019 06:18

Knobhead, not knot head

Rubicon80 · 16/09/2019 06:22

@OrchidinTheSun wow. What a hideous article. Particularly enjoyed the gratuitous Merchant of Venice reference (if you fill us with prolactin, do we not leak?), so appropriating Jewish experience of antisemitism as well as women's experience of breastfeeding.

Happyandglorious · 16/09/2019 06:56

@orchidinthesun 😅

RufusthebewiIderedreindeer · 16/09/2019 07:26

Two biological mums?

NotBadConsidering · 16/09/2019 07:50

Yes, DNA from two “mums”. Where did baby Bailey get his Y chromosome from then?

NotYourCisterinAus · 16/09/2019 08:19

RufusthebewiIderedreindeer Yes, and no biological father. It's a miracle, I tell ya, a miracle! Grin

I’m very concerned about the intelligence levels of the people working in ABC

Do they have form for being really really stupid?

RufusthebewiIderedreindeer · 16/09/2019 08:21

Or form for making shit up?

Or talking bollocks?

StrangeLookingParasite · 16/09/2019 08:32

there were times during the pregnancy, before they changed hospitals, when some medical staff seemed judgmental and "hung up" on Bailey having two biological mothers.

Because he bloody well doesn't. Don't be so ridiculous.

LangCleg · 16/09/2019 08:52

WHAT!?!? You mean... unprotected hetero sex can result in pregnancy?????? Even if the bloke wears lipstick?

This was pretty much my reaction too: aka - HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

Our media classes have completely lost the plot - it's all "Hail, fellow citizens. Our glorious leader Caligula has appointed his horse to the consulship. We think we can all agree that the valorous steed will make many fabulous contributions to the workings of the senate."

Barracker · 16/09/2019 08:52

Excellent.

I'll add "biological mum" to the list of female specific terms that men are currently misappropriating for themselves.

Woman
Female
Wife
Lesbian
Periods
Mother
Biological mum

Feel free to add any I've missed

Rubicon80 · 16/09/2019 11:10

@OrchidInTheSun Actually, that article you posted is even nastier than I first thought. Did you see that the author explains in the first paragraph that they were sexually stimulated by their experience of 'breastfeeding'?

Breastfeeding is freaky. Not the sucking bit. You're reading The Stranger, so odds are you've had a titty sucked at some point in your life. No, it's because when my baby attached to my breast, there was an incredible chemical cascade that ran through my entire body like lightning. Imagine the most electric thing a partner has ever done to you, then multiply it by 10. I could feel my brain rewiring, creating pathways that would permanently connect me to my child. (And yeah, I kind of got off on it. Don't judge.)

Bleurgh.

littlbrowndog · 16/09/2019 11:29

Omg that’s disgusting

He got off on his brand new baby girl sucking his nipple

zen1 · 16/09/2019 11:41

What a fallacy - or should that be phallusy!

thatwouldbeanecumenicalmatter · 16/09/2019 11:49

Ooo it's a miracle, sperm and egg makes baby, hallelujah

OrchidInTheSun · 16/09/2019 12:13

It's a grim article from start to finish (tho I didn't spot the merchant of Venice ref!). The bit at the end where the baby wasn't put on the breast of the person with colostrum but the nipple of the person who needed validation? Grim.

I wonder how much the failure to breastfeed was down to the reduced liquid that the author was able to produce? That poor baby whose parents have prioritised a parent's validation over its wellbeing.
