Middle ground

I've been trying to follow conversations online in regard to gender critical thought, pronouns, selfID, transrights, lesbian erasure etc. And all I can find is extreme views on both sides. Is there a middle ground? Is it here? Is Twitter too toxic? I want to be informed not screamed at.

OP posts:

Oh I’ll tell you what i tried that was nice

Christmas cake liqueur from marks and Spencer

Actually I’ll take the vodka comment back...marshmallow vodka is lovely

OldCrone · 16/09/2019 22:34

TheAlternativeTentacle
The OP went off and read the break it down for me thread and came back with some questions. She has been polite and reasonable and thanked people. I don't know why you seem so irritated by her.

Novembersbean has not contributed anything useful to this thread, and doesn't want to know more despite saying that they do.

I think you're directing your irritation at the wrong person .

RufusthebewiIderedreindeer · 16/09/2019 22:34

Yeah i was surprised when i first heard that gin was vodka with manky berries added

TinselAngel · 16/09/2019 22:37

Sloe gin is tolerable in an emergency but gin gin is like being forced to drown in perfume.

You say that like its a bad thing.

littlbrowndog · 16/09/2019 22:38

Och November just blah blah with not a thing to say. Dull as tbh

The drinks stuff so much more

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 16/09/2019 22:38

It's the juniper though. It's horrible. Sorry not sorry!

RufusthebewiIderedreindeer · 16/09/2019 22:43

I want sloe gin in prosecco!! Or red wine.

I have to try this, I love sloe gin (hate gin).

TheAlternativeTentacle · 16/09/2019 22:45

Actually, i just asked twice what these extreme views were. And then got told...

Extreme reactions. Extreme reactions which drown out debate. Silencing. Name calling. Trolling. I wanted/want nuanced debate

I then explained why in order to have nuanced debate, you need to express an opinion. Otherwise there is no debate, right?

And then I asked what debate the OP wanted.

And I also pointed out that these extreme views are totally normal views and gave some examples.

TruthOnTrial · 16/09/2019 22:45

X-posted,just saw the recipe. How perfect!

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 16/09/2019 22:48

With the apple and cinnamon it would taste like a Christmas candle, surely.

RufusthebewiIderedreindeer · 16/09/2019 22:48

How many Christmas candles have you eaten

TheAlternativeTentacle · 16/09/2019 22:49

Even I have never tried eating a Christmas Candle.

littlbrowndog · 16/09/2019 22:50

Hahaha. Stop eating candles ffs

Novembersbean · 16/09/2019 22:50

Jesus Christ, I didn't leave the thread because people kept asking me questions. No hijacking, just directly responding to people who had no obligation to address me either. I don't know why on this thread alone people seem to think it is strange for someone to respond when spoken to directly and reiterate the same answer when asked the same question over and over.

I am interested in the subject. I want to know more. But I have already expended a lot of energy on this thread today and I need to spend time with my family and less toxic things. I would rather engage with it away from the negativity so I will search for explanations elsewhere or read the other thread if I can't find them.

You don't need to keep referencing what you think I have and haven't brought to the discussion, I tried to leave it long ago and was just as entitled to say I sympathise with the OP when I initially joined it as you all were to say you don't sympathise or to offer advice. Dominating a conversation does not mean yours is the only opinion that adds anything to it.

TheAlternativeTentacle · 16/09/2019 22:50

I did have a pumpkin spiced thingy at *bucks the other week.

littlbrowndog · 16/09/2019 22:52

Cool November it’s tru3 we need to spend some time with our kids. Go well

popehilarious · 16/09/2019 22:53

Novembers, this thread has gotten a bit bogged down but I'd recommend dipping into some of the other ones on FWR if you haven't already.

Tyrotoxicity · 16/09/2019 22:54

Every time I hit refresh I fall in love with Rufus all over again.

I'm going to mangle the shit out of this metaphor because a car is nothing but a brrrm-brrrm to me, but she's the catalytic converter that turns rising tension into collective release.

She's well integrated, that one. And I'm well into the behavioural-linguistic-processing cosmic groove now. This thread is amazing. It's like a drug.

November read up on the principles of mentalisation-based therapy, and try to apply them to yourself. Same goes to everyone. They try to teach you it when you're massively traumatised but really they need to be teaching it in schools.

Person A has a badfeel. She has externalised it onto person B and when that didn't solve her badfeel she externalised it onto everyone else. "Person B's attitude is the problem" is person A's problem - that belief, not person B herself.

A believes her badfeel is rooted in B. She has not yet realised it is rooted in the dynamic, and taken ongoing responsibility for her role in creating the dynamic. Instead she has extended it - she has extended the dynamic and she has extended and intensified her badfeel.

This is the sort of stuff they teach you how to recognise in therapy when your emotional-intellectual regulation interface is fucked by patriarchal trauma.

Right. Back to gin. Not gin. It's the devil's piss. I don't need booze, I'm high on discovery right now

RufusthebewiIderedreindeer · 16/09/2019 22:59

tyro

Grin
TheProdigalKittensReturn · 16/09/2019 23:00

Like the candles smell! All cloying and artificial. Though speaking of wax, apparently Hersheys (American) chocolate contains it? I know they've changed the recipe for Dairy Milk but I hope that nobody in the boardroom is sitting there with a chart purporting to show how adding wax would extend their market share.

Re badfeel, surely at a certain point it occurs to a person that the common denominator in the incidents of badfeel is more likely to be something they're doing rather than dozens of other people being bastards for no apparent reason?

Tyrotoxicity · 16/09/2019 23:05

Gin gin, is literally the same as vodka; just with juniper berries added.

Brain glitch.

Back up.

You're kidding, right? Gin is made of booze and perfume and wet, vodka is made of booze and nail polish remover and wet. They're totally different things. Aren't they? Confused

TheAlternativeTentacle · 16/09/2019 23:05

Nope.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 16/09/2019 23:06

So if that's the case why is sloe gin called gin rather than sloe vodka? Have you hidden juniper berries in there?
